Customer Reviews

Brewing essential during a cold winter!Great for brewing in a cool area. I put it on a timer and cycled it on one hour and off two. Kept my carboy at a constant 74 degrees. 51/2 the price of Fermwrap, and twice as good!Fantastic seller! Sent an autoresponse after shipping to ensure the package was received - I sent a moronic response, because I'm a jerk...in amazement, she RESPONDED! One of the first times EVER I've had a person respond, ensuring their product.I promised I would leave a response once I got my latest brew together. Here are my results, using the same thermometer for room & must temp:I'm using a 5 gallon plastic fermenter, with 5.5 gallons of honey/water/yeast. Being kept in an living room in a corner, away from drafts on a 3 inch slab of styrofoamI began the fermentation with the pad on the bottom of the jug. Room temp for the first 4 days hovered around 45*F. Must measured 53*F pretty steadily. On the 4th day I was unhappy with the heat, I tried moving the rig around, where I realized the bottom of the fermenter has a raised lip, meaning the heater barely made contact with the plastic. I strapped the heater to the side of the bucket, and hoped latent heat would do the rest. For the past 15 days, I have steadily recorded an average of 65*F - Room temp has fallen as low as 37*F, but the must is a warm and happy. This heater has kept my must from dying. As I type, it is still steadily bubbling away. 14/10 will buy again 5Worked for about 2 years then it burned up. Possible Fire Hazard??I used this pad under a glass 5 gallon carboy for almost 2 years without issue. Until one day I went to keg up my kombucha and I noticed that it had the burn marks on it (See pictures). Now I'm afraid to plug it back in because I don't want it to catch fire. I know the warranty was only for a year but this seems like a potential safety issue. 2Nice cheap heater, buy extra stick on thermometers.Works well. I use an old sweatshirt over my carboy to keep the heat in. It s about 63 degrees in my basement year round, which is too cold to get apple wine to hit 15% alcohol before freeze distilling it for applejack. With the sweatshirt on my carboy my wine gets up to about 80 degrees. For the price it s a good product. It should come with more than one of those thermometers. I racked my wine into a secondary container and the thermometer was completely ruined when I tried to pull it off. I only have 2 carboys, so I guess if I had 2 I could just leave them on there forever. I would buy this again despite the crappy thermometer. 4I bought two of these as I make two 5 ...I bought two of these as I make two 5 gal. carboys of wine at a time. Put the first one under one carboy and it didn't raise the temperature one degree. Thinking this one was defective, I replaced it with the second one and same thing. Didn't heat up the contents of the carboy one degree above the room temperature. They barely feel warm to the touch, so they do warm a little, but not enough to use for fermentation as described. 1JUNKDon't waste your money!!! I tried to hold 65 degrees for my glass 6 gal. fermentation tank. Had a controller that was set at 65 with a plus or minus 3 degrees. It kept dropping and dropping below 65 so I checked the pad. It was just barely warm to touch so there was no way it would help keep a 6 gal fermentor close to keeping temps at proper levels. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS PRODUCT!!!!! 1This Worked far Better For Me...After trying 2 of the black 7w ones, I found they were under-powered and unable to raise the temperature of my Kombucha anywhere near where I wanted it. So, I ordered up one of the blue 25w one and found it worked much better for me, bringing the temperature up from 70 to 82, in both 1 and 2 Gal batches.I found the taste was a little sharper, a little more tart than I like it when it was brewed that warm though, so I obtained a temperature controlled outlet (Propagate Pro Heat Pad Thermostat - $23), attached the probe to the jar with a rubber band so it contacted the glass, and set it to 75 degrees, which came out much better, with a smoother taste like I prefer. So, the Blue 25w one worked better for me.... and with the thermostat controlled outlet, I'm able to dial in the exact temperature where I want it to be, with no concern about the possibility of overheating at all... and warming it up right to where I want it, knowing my booch will come out just perfect, every time... 5Works wellWorks as described. When I first began brewing Kombucha I couldn't get a good batch very quickly. It was taking over 3 weeks to ferment. After a little reading about what the problem could be, I realized the temperature was too cool. Bought this warmer and it did the trick. Perfect batches of Kombucha in about 10 days. 5Slow even heatThese work great for kombucha. I was a little concerned when I realized I purchased the ones for beer and wine (there are different ones for kombucha that have lower wattage) but so far these seem to be working flawlessly. I am using them with a thermostat, but it looks like they would work fine without it. They heat very very slowly and don't get too hot. The cords are nice and flexible and have ample length. Highly recommended. 5These Heat Pads Work! This device works as advertised. I live in an NYC loft in which the winter air temperature fluctuates between 55 and 60 degrees for five months. With one of these devices underneath a fermenting jug, and with a sweatshirt wrapped around the jug, I can get the temperature of the jug to a stable temperature of between 79 and 82 degrees. 5
