Do not waste your money and time! I work in a restaurant and make hundreds of shakes/malts per month. I love making milkshakes and was really looking forward to having my own machine at home. As soon as this machine arrived i begun to make a shake immediately. However, this thing broke literally less than half way during the first malt. A simple vanilla malt! The only things that aren't made of cheap plastic are the rod and the cup, and even the prong on the rod is made of plastic, which also started chipping about 30 seconds into making my first shake. Even the piece that holds and spins the rod is made of plastic which is what broke actually.This machine can mix milk and water and just about that.Definitely wouldn't recommend to anyone, which is why I'm sitting here writing this. 1Long-lastingPurchased this as a replacement for the same appliance that we've had for almost 20 years. Our old one had a broken wheel/paddle on the mixing component and we ordered a replacement part, but over the past 20 years, upgrades have obviously been made to the product and the stem end was different so our old mixer would not accept it. So far, so good with the new mixer (which the replacement mixer head fits, so we have a spare!). I hope this one lasts another 20 years!5Broke during FIRST USE! And no, we didn't use ice.My girls got this as a present for their mom. Just opened. Using NO ICE, SOFT ice cream, and lots of milk, three milkshakes went off without a hitch. For the 4th one (which happened to be mine; adding insult to injury), the shaft just snapped right out of the cheap metal ring that holds it in the egg-shaped head. Plastic shards rained down into my milkshake. Birthday gift broke on its first use. Sad girls. Sad mom. No milkshake for dad. This thing is a cheap piece of crap.1Great-and with super memories!From a 70 yr old..It is just surprising the number of individuals who complain about problems with this item. It won't do ice cubes, it won't do chunk fruit, it tips, it overflows..etc! Doesn't anyone "read instructions"? Nitwits... This mixer does what is says it does!! And works great! READ>>> Directions!! There is a limit to put in or it will overflow... Crushed ice not cubes... diced/crushed fruit not solid/frozen chunks. This is NOT a blender and won't blend..it is a mixer and mixes. My first job 55 years ago was at a Walgreens fountain. I made shakes and malts..lots of them. This is a home version of the model we used, not heavy duty commercial steel! Want to make 50 - 100+ a day..spend $150+ or more. For protein shakes or with soft ice cr me and flavors - this is great. YES - it is chrome looking plastic over frame. Cup is stainless. If you want solid steel commercial use, buy that one. If you follow instructions..this is neat, easy to use and simple to clean up. Always brings back the memories of the old times! Just understand what you want it to do and not do something it isn't designed to do. It shines, is always a conversation starter, and the frothy shakes it mixes are super.. I add some whipped cr me and a cherry..for special occasions!5Weak motor makes item unimpressiveItem is plastic and the power of the motor is very weak. I doubt it's ability to make a thick shake. I returned it without any issue thanks to the always great Amazon service. Incidentally, this was the first time I experienced Amazon's new return label process. They email you a barcode that you let UPS scan. So, you pack up the item and bring it and the barcode to UPS. UPS then prints out and attaches the label for you.2Great for cocktails!I've used the mixer exclusively for cocktails so take that into account. I bought the DrinkMaster after reading Smuggler's Cove, and I have not been disappointed. It does a great job of mixing the juices and thicker syrups used in tiki drinks, though you do have to be careful with how much ice you're putting in. If the ice to liquid ratio is too high, you'll have a little bit of trouble getting a mix. This mixer is also amazing for any cocktails that call for egg whites. Rather than wasting time with the dry shake or reverse dry shake or etc., just use this for 10 seconds and you'll have the best frothy drink you've ever made. One warning though, take the max fill line very seriously if you don't want a mess.5Why the negative reviews?This is a $40 machine. It is not a $100 or $200 professional commercial machine. Nor is it the $20 piece of crap that I purchased from the TV channel shopping network that lasted one year. I use it for Protein powder and vitamin mixes and I love it. This machine has a little more power and is definitely a step up in quality compared to my old Tv nostalgic model. I am NOT crushing ice or mixing concrete - if that is your purpose you need to use a blender or upgrade to a commercial model. thanks.5Essential for flash blending tiki drinks!I bought this mixer to make tiki drinks. I first used it the other night to make a three dots and a dash drink. This is essential, because the recipe calls for flash blending. It s very easy to use, with two speeds. I gave five stars on durability, but only time will tell how long this will last. But for the price it s perfect for my needs. It also has a cool retro look. I noticed some other reviews saying that it makes a mess. As long as you don t overfill the cup, it ll be fine. I recommend this for people making tiki drinks. This is what was used back in the day before cocktail shakers!5Motor burns out!Very nice looking mixer loved the style and the color. First time I used it the motor burned out after 2 uses you could literally smell it burning. Amazon replaced it quickly with no problems but the second was just as bad. This machine is not made for mixing shakes. I am very disappointed I grew up and have always purchased Hamilton Beach products. I might have to go out and buy a restaurant drink mixer.1Poor quality. Will eventually break. Wasn't a great mixer. The spindle is small and plastic and can hardly mix. You have to use very soft ice cream. It worked for probably less than 10 shakes and then the spindle fell out and slid down a bit while it was mixing and bent and broke the inside of the machine so you can no longer put the spindle in. Completely ruined already. 1doesn't mixHad some strawberries from my garden, a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream and a little milk...let it go, and in the end, all strawberries in the bottom with milk on top. I'm tossing this piece of crap and buying one of those small mixers that have blades on the bottom...this only has a small plastic little round thing on the stim. No good.1NOT BAD, AND IT LOOKS REALLY GOOD TOOThis blender is pretty much exactly as I thought it would be, given the descriptions. Yes, it is made of chrome-plated plastic, but it looks great, I think, and seems to work fine (although I've only used it once so far, and clearly I need practice to make a decent chocolate shake...) Indeed, I only bought this mixer to make milkshakes. Two speeds: very fast, and VERY fast. The mixer 'blade' is small and plastic (but the shaft is metal), and hopefully it will last reasonably well; we'll see. Since the blender blade is made of plastic, this won't crush ice, and even says so in the (small) included instruction booklet. Mixer also includes one stainless steel mixing cup, as shown in the picture(s). Also, this mixer fits on my kitchen countertop under the cabinets, while some of the larger drink mixers won't. I would have given this five stars, probably, if this was all metal, but then, almost nothing is nowadays. :(UPDATE, Week 3: My chocolate shakes are coming out much better now. The secret: add more chocolate syrup!4
