Customer Reviews

plastic microfiber Hoover type Y filter bag This newer series plastic Hoover type Y HEPA filter bag is certainly far better than then all the older paper ones out there. It's completely heat-sealed, eliminating the problem of coming apart, like the glued seams of the old paper versions. It's a non-woven plastic material, much better at capturing particulates of all sizes (does a far better job at removing the dirt). Fits all Hoover type Y vacuums. And it's slightly larger, giving you more capacity.. This bag is the best.. Once you use one, you will always look to get them again! 5Is There a Minus 5 Rating? Is there a minus 5 rating? Where do I start - not as pictured, A hoover type "Y" vacuum bag is pictured. The bag does not have the rubber seal at the cardboard opening, it is not shaped for the Windtunnel bag compartment. The bottom had to be folded under, and the top does not extend to the top of the chamber. It is basically a flat bag, no pleats, no shape. This is cheap knock-off that isn't even close. A waste of money. I will be making a trip to a local store to buy what I needed. What I bought from B&M Houswares will soon find its way to the local landfill.I tried to save a little money and ended up wasting it. 1Better than 3M Filtrete Bags These bags are much better than the older Hoover brand bags made from 3M Filtrete material, like shown on this product page: HOOVER 4010801Y 2PK Type Y HEPA Bags Also Fitz Type ZThese bags are still HEPA, but they are pleated, so they are easier to fit into my upright vacuum. The older bags were flat and the edges had to be stuffed and tucked into the vacuum cleaner to make the bag fit. These bags are the correct width. The opening on these bags is still made out of cardboard, but there is a flexible rubber-like material covering part of the opening. The older bags had just the wide open hole, and when you pulled the bag out, a lot of dust and dirt would fall out if the bag was full. I always wondered why they didn't put a rubber lining across the opening like other manufacturers do, and I think this will help keep the dust and dirt inside the bag. It should also create a better seal between the bag and the vacuum.Several reviewers complained about receiving filters that weren't the Hoover brand as shown on the product page. Mine were exactly as shown. There are other vendors selling these bags, but mine were sold by GoVacuum. 5Product was not what is described. Stay away from B & M Housewares. I just received the vacuum bags from B & M Housewares. I ordered two packs of HEPA Filter Bags, two per bag. What I received were two packs of normal non HEPA bags, three per pack. This seller is not reliable and ripped me off. I recommend using a different vendor. It is not worth it for me to ship the bags that I received back. What is extra annoying is on the same day I purchased normal bags from a different vendor via Amazon.com, the 9 pack, for $7.00. So now I have 15 normal vacuum bags and no HEPA filtered bags. And these 6 normal bags cost $19.80 :(I can not rate the bags since I did not receive them. The one * is for the vendor. 1The bags themselves have an unpleasant odor I bought a new Hoover WindTunnel vacuum cleaner in December, and ordered 4 2-packs of these Genuine Hoover Type Y HEPA filter bags for it. One of the main reasons I chose the vacuum model was because it uses HEPA filters and bags. I soon noticed that whenever I used the new vacuum, it would leave an unpleasant smell in the room. I thought the smell was due to the vacuum being new, and that it would fade after a bit of use. But it's now February, and the vacuum still leaves the same unpleasant smell. Today I decided to change the bag, thinking that maybe the bad smell was due to the bag being full. When I removed it, it felt less than half full.Imagine my surprise upon opening a pack of the new bags, and discovering that the new bags themselves give off the unpleasant odor! The odor reminds me somewhat of liquid wrench, or of how new tires or an auto parts store smells. Some people might not be bothered by it, but I'm sensitive to smells, and it bothers me.The new bags feel like cloth and look exactly like the original bag that came with the vacuum cleaner, so I don't doubt that they are all genuine Hoover bags. I will try hanging the remaining bags out in the sun and wind for a while to see if that dispels the odor. Next time though, I will look for some other type of HEPA bags.By the way, the 1st product image for this item matches what I received (I ordered the ones from "T & T Enterprises LLC"). However, the customer image provided by user "David" which shows a translucent plastic-looking bag, does not match the ones I received. Different vendors may be shipping different versions of the bags. If I could find a link selling the plastic ones, I might try those next time. Some of the reviews left for Hoover Inc/tti Floor Care 4010801Y Hepa Filtration Bag 2pk indicate a chemical smell, so I suspect those reviewers received the same kind of bags I did. 2It's a Mixed Bag The correct product, the Hepa media cloth-like bag with the rubber gasket is a great bag, but too expensive at 5 bucks per bag. So it's a mixed review on that bag itself. But the problems with inaccuracy of part numbers to photos as far as representing which listing gets you which vacuum bag is ridiculously frustrating and totally unnecessary. I don't know who's at fault.I've ordered several variations on this bag since buying the Hoover Windtunnel over a year ago It's incredibly misleading in every way. The photos and the part numbers on these bags are all wrong in most listings. Wrong how? Wrong because inconsistent and hopelessly confusing. I tried to save money by ordering the 9 pack hoover bags and they were in NO WAY capable of delivering the Windtunnel vacuum experience I was used to (the Windtunnel Hoover came with 2 Hepa bags made of a cloth type material and they had the rubber gasket ring around the opening.) By not having made note of these exact bags and figuring out how important they were to the vacuum's performance, I spent months thinking the vacuum had stopped working well. The fact is, I ordered these exact bags from this liting on November 5, 2012, and I know because it says "you ordered this item on November 5, 2012" at the top of the listing. But the bags I got were the right ones, with Hepa media, and cloth type and rubber gasket. ***However*** the ones I got were labeled at the upper left "AH10040 PART# 902419001."The bags I ordered months ago that were not cloth like and had no rubber gasket and did not say Hepa media on the package (regardless of whatever listing I ordered them from) are made of plain paper, and don't work well. Their part numbers at upper left are:4010100Y PART # 43655109 and they say "3 bags" on package, which they did have, and they were much cheaper. I think Hoover may have mixed up part and model numbers or....who knows. But this listing shows the Hepa media correct bags inside a package labeled with the product numbers of the wrong bags, and not the way it was listed when I ordered on Nov 5. Now why did I go to all this trouble to type out all of this? Because it MATTERS when you're spending $5.00 a bag for a vacuum that only cost $139.00 and you do a LOT of vacuuming, and only one bag really works. In that situation, the bag matters a great deal, and there's no reason for all the confusion in product numbers, or photos posted for the specific bag matching the bag sold.Make sure you're getting the bag you need. If I could buy them locally, I certainly would. If I could find a vacuum that was bagless that had the suction of the Hoover Windtunnel (and believe me, I'm actively looking, so post your suggestion in comments if you know of one) I would get it in a minute.Last note: even with the right cloth-like bag, with genuine Hepa filtration and the rubber gasket at the attachment point, you still have to change these bags before they are half full to get the best suction. All of this makes the Hoover Windtunnel a very expensive vacuum for a very inexpensive investment at the beginning, but if you're a vacuum freak like I am, it really does make or break your day, so this is how it works. I would give the actual bags, the Hepa ones that came with the vacuum, five stars for working so well, but three stars for high cost. So it's a mixed bag. 3The BEST Hoover Type Y bags out there, hands down. These bags are excellent and well worth the $6-$7 for a pair. Here is my take on why you would, or even should, spend more for these than you would for paper bags...[A] You want to really, truly cut down on the dust in your house. There is no comparison between the HEPA performance of these bags vs. any of the paper bags I have used in the past. And that means the dust you vacuum up stays in the vacuum, instead of flying back into the air.[B] You have a major, dusty / particulate type mess on your hands - or you typically have lots of dust, particulates and/or animal hair in your house. These bags are excellent for heavy duty jobs both in terms of performance and capacity.[C] You have allergies. Particularly if you are allergic to dust or your pets' dander, or whatever else that might be gathering on your floors.[D] You want to make the most of your vacuum cleaner. I don't know anything about the inner workings of vacuum cleaners, but it sure seems like these bags make my vacuum work better, i.e. more suction. The only guess I have is that these bags may allow better airflow during operation. One additional note on purchasing. I bought these bags from Todays Concepts. Their price is competitive, the shipping is at no extra charge and delivery was prompt. 5Pricey, but worth it! The hubby and I live in an old dusty house. The house originally had a coal-fired hot-water boiler and I swear some of that old black dust is still lingering in dark and hidden places. Plus, the house has radiator heat and no central air, so the dust never gets captured by a filter, as it would with a forced-air system. That's why I spend the extra money for the Filtrete Hepa bags. I just ordered two more and paid $6 for the bag and $7 for shipping (ouch), but the good news is, the manufacturer promises that these bags really do capture the wee tiny particulate matter.Filtrete is a 3M trademark and according to Hoover's website, these Filtrete bags have three layers of filtering media and an electrostatically charged liner in the bag. It filters down to .3 microns. By comparison, a high-falutin' top-of-the-line electrostatic whole-house air filter will capture particulate matter down to .3 microns.Plus, these cloth bags are easier to install than those troublesome paper bags and my initial observation is that the Filtrete holds a little more than its paper cousin.Back in the day, I owned an old Hoover upright and when you turned that puppy on, a cloud of egg mites, dead skin, dander and bacteria (otherwise known and described as dust) would be launched into the air. Standing in a sunbeam, you could actually *see* the dust cloud poof out of the vacuum bag. That vacuum did little more than reposition the dirt.Conversely, my new Hoover with a Filtrete bag installed actually captures the dust and enables one to keep their home a LOT cleaner. Despite its higher cost, I think these Hepa Filtrete bags are a very wise investment for those of us in dusty old houses. 5Recommend the Carbon version, not these While these work well for collecting the vacuum's sweepings, the bag contents soon start "fermenting" and the odor permeates the room when you use the vacuum. This drives you to change the bags frequently, even though they are far from full. When we first bought the vacuum, we used Hoover Type Y Carbon HEPA Bags. The carbon worked surprising well to prevent odors, and you could use the bag until it was full, with little to no detectable smell. I regret having bought these non-carbon bags, and will not do so again. I have found the Carbon version is well worth the extra few dollars. 2Do not buy from B&M Housewares. Please note that this product is sold through several different sellers. If bought from B&M Housewares, be aware that what you will receive is not Hoover brand bags, but a knock-off, sent without packaging in a plastic envelope. The product description clearly reads Hoover Bags, and are priced as such, but the product I received is inferior, and not worth what I paid. 1
