Customer Reviews

Great leveling tool for the back yard bush contractor like myself! I like to build things that don't involve me living in them. While working on some uneven ground in my back 20 acres, I wondered how I could figure out where a level point would be about 100 yards from where I was standing on a distant tree. Since I don't have several thousand dollars for a top of the line laser transit, I knew there must be a "bush" solution out there. A quick search led me to this Johnson level tool and it was exactly what the contracting gods prescribed. I was able to shoot a level line and have a friend mark on the tree where that point was. It was simple and easy to use; almost goof proof. Naturally, that got me thinking I now need to shoot a level line and then figure out a drop over 200 yards for a zip line. Somehow saving me money just cost me a lot more. Don't tell my wife. 4Very useful I have never owned a home on flat ground, and so I am constantly trying to just get an idea of elevation changes as I consider projects in and around the house. Often I find myself alone, so my transit and rod are out. This is just a good q&d tool to get a feel for terrain and how it falls. Amazingly useful for what it is. 5works fine but does not have an indicator or mark on ... works fine but does not have an indicator or mark on the device to indicate the reference point. For example you can sight on a dozen stakes and mark them with the assurance that the marks are all at the same height, but you will not know how close the point you did the sighting from is to the marks on the stakes. You can work around it though. 4works as advertised Decent, but not great. Slightly small. But as advertised. I used to have a magnifying Dumpy Level and bought this as a casual replacement 4Great instrument for the cost I made a 5 monopod out of PVC pipe and tee, and used another 10 stick of PVC and a sharpie to make a witness rod. Used this rig to survey my very steep lot to within an inch. This instrument works well, but has no magnification so the range with a witness rod is limited to about 25 . 5Adequate for many but not all jobs This little hand-held sight level was the perfect addition to my field marine biology equipment list. My students use these with vertical elevation poles to measure heights of locations in the intertidal zone relative to tidal height. It works well for this purpose. The unit admittedly is lightweight, plastic, and even feels cheap in your hand. But it does the job, as long as you don't have to be too precise. I found to be accurate to within +/- 1-2 cm over a distance of 10 meters or so. Plus if you are on a budget, as most of us are, the price is definitely right! The sight itself includes a simple horizontal bubble-level mechanism and a mirror that reflects the bubble into the view direction. The bubble is quite large compared to the view field, and you have to estimate where the mid-line is, but, as I said before, it's adequate for many jobs. For example, this unit would work just fine if you wanted to make sure that a fence line was level, or similar jobs. It would not, however, be adequate for survey work, or sighting over long distances. A laser level would be greatly preferred for that kind of work. This unit does a good job for what I needed to do, and at an affordable price.4 solid stars. 4It is a very good hand sight level. The peephole is a horizontal slit rather than a circular hole which lets more light into the eye w/o compromising the accuracy. The bubble is a neat two divisions on the scale. I like that the bubble mirror is in the center of view rather than off to the side. I think that this helps to keep the yaw angle of the bubble horizontal. There is no adjustment (like on most hand levels) provided for, but my initial tests have found the error to be smaller than what I can measure. (I will try not to drop it on a hard surface.) 5Great rough level tool Fast and easy rough leveling for distances less than 75' 5dont waste your money this product is pretty cheap and doesn't really do anything that your own eyes cant do. I would recommend using a transit if you want to see what is actually level 1Not the best Not a big fan of this product. It does it's job, but if you are more than 15' away, it is very difficult to see and level the bubble. The bubble also tends to get stuck 2
