Good Quality While this product is of good quality and certainly does what it describes, I think I'll stick with my good old potholders. This product does offer additional protection from hot pots, pans, etc., but if you don't have a good enough grip, I fear your straight-out-of-the oven pan could slip and cause even worse problems. I also don't like the fact that it can get dirty so quickly. Yes, it's easily cleaned in the washing machine, but I have a weird thing about not getting my potholders dirty (accidentally dipping into food). :) 3Useful While I normally use oven mitts when picking up hot pans and pots or remove a casserole from the oven, there are times where mine are too small and/or too rigid to be perfect. The oven towel is a great alternative for these situations.It is long enough to grab even a piping hot casserole and protect my arms from coming into contact with the pan, and thick enough - especially when double-folded - to not get too hot. The only other thing that would do a comparable job are these long barbecue gloves that go up half way up the arms. But I find that when cooking, one often needs to work on different stuff in very quick succession and to get my hands out of those thick gloves fast enough is often a bit tedious to do. With the towel I just drop it and immediately can use my hands for other things.Nice touch: It has a loop to hang it.Recommend. 4Good size, very effective & useful, and a decent price I'm surprised by some of the reviews here... I find this oven towel to be highly effective when using it to handle hot pots & pans; for oven-hot pans, it's big enough to fold in half and double the protection, and that works exceptionally well. For bowls, it's big enough to wrap around the whole thing & pick it up securely. It's also great for cleaning up emergency spills (you know, when you're right in the middle of cooking something & timing is of the essence, and you make a mess that needs to be cleaned right now, so you grab the nearest thing...), and great for wiping & drying your hands when needed. It's also machine washable, so you can just toss it in with your towels (though, for the first washing, I'd recommend hand-washing, to remove the lint).Overall, I think this is far better than oven mitts & pot holders, and I hope it'll last a long time, but even if it only lasts a couple years, at just $10, buying another is still worth it. 4When You Need to Protect a Greater Surface Area Strong seams and thick 100 percent cotton comprise this 14 by 26-inch oven towel, which is a better safety proposition for carrying big casserole dishes in which your wrists and the belly of your forearms are exposed.The protection works, but be sure not to be tempted to double its use as a dish towel because if you use it when it's wet, the moisture works as a conduction element for heat and you could burn yourself. That's true of any oven mitt as well.For high quality construction that protects a greater surface area than regular oven mitts, I can give this the highest recommendation. 5Great, multipurpose heat protection! This towel is so versatile, you can use it without folding to carry a warm dish to the table, etc. Folded once it works nicely for most oven uses (cookie sheets, casseroles, etc). Folded 2-3 times you can hold anything your oven or grill can put out without feeling the heat. For obviously reasons, it only protects from the heat when it's dry. I've found myself using it often and prefer it over my silicone oven mitt. I've washed it once and it still looks too. Only time will tell what it will look like in 6 months but right now, I like the look much better than some of the ugly oven mitts out there. 4Pricey, but I Like It I have a habit of grabbing the first thing handy when it comes to pulling items out of the oven. In fact, that's one of my little habits that drives my mother-in-law crazy. But there's something about a towel that is so much easier to manage than an oven mitt. So, to the towel I go. That is why I love this towel.It is thick. While it still needs to be doubled up, it only needs doubling.It's large. It only takes one towel to easily pull out a casserole dish - or even our large cast iron pizza pan.Is it durable? It feels like it, but I don't know. I haven't had it long yet - just long enough to know that I love it. Would I pay the price for it? I don't know. It's pricey for a single towel. But, I definitely like that I have it. 4Great oven towel This is a good weight and stands up to heat. Plenty long and most effective. Very pleased. 5Great alternative to bulky mitts This product provides a nice alternative to bulky mitts or traditional pot holders. Easy to clean, store. 4It is a gift. It is large enough to ... It is a gift. It is large enough to take casseroles or dutch ovens out of the oven without getting burned. It is insulated well to prevent hands getting burned. It is also used to cover a covered casserole that has been taken out of the oven to keep the casserole warm until serving time. 5Found a Place Beside the Oven After a week of daily use and a weekend of serious baking, the Now Designs Oven Towel just came out of the dryer ready for another week. I cook a lot. We eat in a lot. I was afraid when I ordered this item that I would forget to use it, reaching for the oven mitts and trivets instead since that is automatic with me. However, I made a conscious effort to use the towel in the myriad ways possible, and found it up to scratch in all of them except for the obvious one. Don't use this towel as protection against heat if it is wet. The water still conducts heat, so use it for thermal protection dry. It is a nice protection for the counter and table, and really works well to grab a pan of cookies, a casserole, or cake pan from the oven. It is convenient to have a hanging loop, but don't expect to use it much. This towel found itself folded on the counter beside the oven all week long. It washed up with the cotton wash this morning and dried in the dryer with just a little bit of draw up--not enough to consider as shrinkage. This is an item that will live in my kitchen for a long time. I like it alone. 5
