Customer Reviews

FALSE ADVERTISING I bought this pepper mill in late 2016 and it worked well until June 2018. Then it quit. Amazon's website says it has a five-year warranty on the mechanism, so I contacted Amazon and asked about the warranty. Amazon responded that it had no information, so I went on the manufacturer's website and asked how to submit a warranty claim. I never got a response. It's false advertising to say there is a warranty, but not have a way to present a claim. 1Freeeee, freee spinniiinnnng Like the others, mine lasted two months before the grinders began spinning without friction. I tried all the adjustments, I tried small and large black peppercorns, no luck. I tried contacting Peugeot support via their web form, and after I clicked Send, the web page complained about a field not being properly filled. But it didn't highlight which field, and after wasting 20 minutes re-entering data to no avail, I gave up. I hate it when I read bad reviews but I buy the item anyway thinking, "I won't be in the percentage that has the problem." Buy this grinder at your own risk...and it's risky. 1Great performance with a lifetime warranty on the grinding mechanism. I've had several peppermills but after reading several reviews I decided to try the Peugeot. This has to be the best I've ever used. The grinding mechanism works smooth and being able to dial the coarseness or fineness of my pepper is super. Probably the last peppermill I will ever need to purchase. Just make sure you only use peppercorns no larger than 5.5mm. They could potentially jamb the grinding mechanism. I contacted Peugeot and they did not recomend using tellicherry peppercorns. This is why I gave it a 4 out of 5 rating. 4Thank you Peugeot! To waste time on any other pepper grinder is lunacy. The pepper is ground consistently, and comes out evenly. The pepper grinder can be operated with ease and refilled simply. I am in love. Well worth the price, a seriously great purchase. I will say though that the directions, ok the tiny pamphlet, state that the peppercorns should be sized at 5mm max. This intrigued me. Upon measuring Penzey's Tellicherry and Black Indian Peppercorns, I have discovered that over one-third of my batch of peppercorns measured 5mm or larger, some peppercorns even measured at 8mm. I have switched brands to Starwest Botanicals Black Peppercorns (ordered from Amazon) and have found the peppercorns to be much smaller, not as tough, and the taste similar to the Tellicherry flavor. My husband can't tell the difference. I am wondering if the Penzey's peppercorns is why my original pepper grinder, and subsequent cheaper models purchased before my Peugeot pepper grinder, have broken? 5Doesn't work It simply doesn't work well at all. The pepper doesn't slide down the grinder, so you have to constantly shake it and hope it somehow does, then grind it, and repeat the shaking once more.I don't often review stuff I get, but trust me, buy any other pepper grinder. I thought I bought quality, especially at this price, turns out I bought a useless modern art piece 1Mechanically great, but the wood fell off. The actual grinding mechanism seems great. It is very simple to use and makes perfect pepper. My problem is that the bottom wood section just decided to split and fall off. Hope my situation is unique! Makes a perfect product have a huge wart. There was no abuse to the mill that I know of. It's just my wife and me. One morning we walked by it and it was broken and falling off only a few months after purchase. 2Grinding mechanism reliable, wood case not I've own two of these, one for white pepper the other, this one, for black pepper . The grinding mechanism works perfectly and is truly reliable. The wood case is not reliable, and it is not covered by the warranty. The adjustable grind mechanism at the bottom of the mill is covered with a thin ring of wood. The wood rings on both my pepper mills have split as a result of normal use . I've made a make-shift repair using electitions tape, which allows me to adjust the grind, so both are all right for use in the kitchen. The tape wrapped around the bottom of the mills detracts from their appearance. 4Your hands better be dry. But eventually it will break The thing grinds pepper well, the settings are good and its smooth. My issue is with ease to twist when hands are wet. I really need to make sure I grip well so my hand does not slip. I'm a 6' male and feel like the top piece is hard to grip and it really tires your hand if you need to grind a bunch of pepper.UPDATE 6 months in: The grinding mechanism has started to sequel and lock up regularly. Once it locks up you need to undo the top screw and force it free. It's pretty hard to get free. No thanks, going to pick up a unicorn mill and hope for the best! 1Broke after two weeks of light use It is a good looking pepper mill, and it worked well for about two weeks. Then the wood at the bottom (near the grinding mechanism) broke, I am not sure how or why, as we did not notice it breaking during use. There is a very thin wooden ring (about 4 millimeters in thickness) at the bottom of the grinder, which can be used to adjust the coarseness of the grind. That ring simple split along the wood grain. The mill is still somewhat usable by holding the ring tightly in place. It may also be repairable. But it definitely isn't as durable as it should be. And in my entire life, it is the only pepper mill that I have seen breaking in this way (usually, if anything, it is the grinding mechanism that goes first). 2Pepper jams in mill, don't buy it, you'll regret it. This is the second Peugeot Select 9" mill we've owned, and like the first, this one has a consistent issue with pepper corns jamming up at the entry into the burr grinder. It is unfortunate and inexplicable that this design flaw still exists in what is otherwise the perfect pepper mill. When pepper corns are feeding in into the burr properly it produces a consistently adjustable grind. But at least half the time it stops feeding and requires repeated whacking on a hard surface to clear the jam. I can't explain all of the high reviews. This thing just sucks. The same problem is not exhibited in short unadjustable Peugeot mill that we use white pepper. 1
