Customer Reviews

So after reading all of the reviews both good and bad I took the plunge and ordered it ...So after reading all of the reviews both good and bad I took the plunge and ordered it this Tuesday. I was surprised that despite the international shipping it arrived fast on Friday night.Took it out for a field trial going around the mall the next day and this carrier was awesome. It was comfortable for me and my 11 month old baby. He was all smiles and never wanted to get out of it for the 2 hours we were going around. Weight is nicely distributed and allowed me to move freely. It was easy to fit, just a few tugs at the straps and it's ready to go. Felt just a bit of discomfort from the strap that goes across the chest. I will place a strap foam across it to solve the problem. Otherwise the paddings on the back and waist strap are excellent. I also liked the looks. It's stylish and sleek enough that we did not look like we were going hiking in the woods. My baby liked it so much that it doubled as a high chair when we stopped to eat. I even got glances from other parents and whinings from other toddlers who wanted to get on it. This type of carrier is not commonplace where I live. The moment it arrived my two year old nephew wanted to go horsey horsey on it, I obliged and he absolutely loved it. I took him around the block and gave me a bit of a workout. The only flaw is what other users also reported. The moment it arrived I already noticed a bit of wearing at the point where the elbow joint at the back pressed against the fabric when the carrier is folded. It could have been solved by giving more allowance to the fabric such that it did not hit the elbow joint when folded. I did not want it to develop into a full hole so I Macgyvered it by placing duct tape at the inside where the elbow meets the fabric and on the outside. I will try to find a darker gray duct tape so it could be hardly noticed. I think this solved the problem. You can see what I am talking about on the third and fourth pics.I could have rated it 5 stars if not for this flaw. As mentioned I did know about this flaw but the good points about this carrier outweighed the this. With the problem solved I am looking forward to more adventures with my boy as we go around the island. 4Finally baby likes to ride in her backpack! This is the third backpack we tried after reading reviews and even chasing down families to see if they like their backpack. Third time's a charm! It holds its shape making it easy to get baby in and out with just one adult. It can be folded to lie flat in the overhead compartment of the plane. It's hard to see from the pictures but there is an extra harness system inside for baby which is perfect because it give her lots of wiggle room but keeps her in position. She likes to bring an extra toy and tuck it in front of her. The only drawback is that she's looking at the back of my head so she likes to lean to one side so she can see. It's easy to manage the weight on one side so it's no big deal. 5I love this packI use this pack to go carry my 2 year old son while hiking. I love this pack! I love that it has a good amount of space in the pack below for diapers and wipes, toys, snacks, water, and an extra coat. There is a little zipper pouch on the waistband that is perfect for chap stick and a small knife. The kickstand is nice for loading my son, and there is a little handle on the top that makes it easy to lift the pack up to swing it around onto my back. I am a small woman, 4'11 and thin, and I have trouble finding packs that fit my small frame but this one is great! 5Great for short periods, but needs more accessible storage!I purchased this backpack as a less expensive and lighter alternative to the multitude of hiking backpacks on the market. We love to take our kids hiking and rarely go more than 5-6 miles, so I figured that this would do the trick allowing us to take our 22 month old along. I have used it both for hiking and mowing the lawn with a kid in tow (with ear protection of course). Based on using it a few times here are my thoughts:Pros:-Lightweight-Easy to get my daughter in and out of (she currently weighs 25 lbs)-Sturdy construction-Good storage capacity-The child's sitting area is very spacious and has good visibility.-My daughter loves riding in it and regularly climbs in it on the ground at home and asks to go hike.-The kickstand is nice and keeps the pack sturdy while loading/unloading the child.Cons:-The small children's backpack that attaches to the back is difficult to remove and the zipper is configured strange so that when you unzip it the contents fall out.-There is no easily accessible place to put a cell phone. Seriously, this is 2017- we need to be able to access the dang phone for communication and photos without having to take the pack off. The one pocket on the waist strap is barely big enough to hold my keys.-The storage compartment on the bottom is difficult to access and the pack must be removed to get at it.-It is almost impossible to reach the two side pockets while wearing the pack. I frequently had to ask my older kids to grab a water bottle for me out of the side since my arms don't bend that far back.-It made my shoulders very sore after about 45 minutes. The hip strap wouldn't tighten enough to fit snuggly and take the pressure off my shoulders (I am 5'7" 125 lbs).It serves it's purpose and I will keep using it, but I wish there was more accessible storage and a better weight distribution system. 3Love that it's lightweight and easy to use, but it has a couple downsidesI really like this pack because it's lightweight, has a large pocket to carry baby stuff, and is one of the only options for parents that don't always have someone around to help you put on a baby backpack. I can put my daughter in it on the floor or other sturdy raised surface, then slip it on without any help. I have noticed two negative things though, after using it for a couple months: (1) the frame digs into your backside/butt a little bit, which I haven't noticed too much myself, but my husband and mom both complained about it. (2) There is not soft padding on the frame behind your child's head. My daughter's head bobs around a bit while she's carried, and it'd be nice for there to be more padding for her. It's also not a good backpack for your baby to fall asleep in, unless you're okay with stuffing a blanket or something in there to prop their head up. 4Buy it, you won t regret it!I purchased this carrier to take on a vacation to the Northeast to NYC and Philly. I needed something slim and compact and this totally does the trick! My son hates the front carriers so this backpack style is amazing. I use it exclusively everywhere we go now! The quality is fantastic and there is plenty of storage in the bottom. My son is totally comfortable while in it (and he has sat in it for up to 2-3 hours at a time with no complaints!) The only thing is weight distribution. If your kiddo leans more to one side that can get a little uncomfortable so you have to readjust. This carrier is fantastic and you can buy a sun shade separately on the Phil and Ted s website for $20. 5Using this with my 36lb 4yo daughterI'm 6'. 200lb. Mid-life belly. I got this for my 4yo daughter who does not like to push through overgrown wilderness paths. My 6yo leads the pack, but she won't go unless someone is holding her...One thing that was terribly uncomfortable initially was how far back she sits from my back. Even with the "wing" straps cinched down all the way, she is still able to swing about 12" to and fro - enough to really strain the shoulders and throw me off balance. However, the fix is rather simple. Instead of using the right clasp for the right wing, crisscross them. That is, take the strap from the left, bring it across the back padded area, and use it to clasp onto the right wing. By doing this, you're able to really compress the space where the child sits, bringing their center of gravity much closer to your spine. It may reduce airflow and cause additional sweating, but quite frankly, I'd rather deal with that than sore shoulders and back.I went on a quick, 30 min hike down some pretty steep wooded trails and found no hot spots or pinch points. My daughter didn't complain either (well, other than the spiderwebs in her face). In the past, our hikes were with her riding on my shoulders. Inevitably, my shoulders and neck would start burning and I'd have to take many breaks. I don't think I ever had her on for more than 10 min at a time. This was the first time I carried her (at her current weight) for 30 min. Surprisingly, I noticed how much my legs were burning from the extra weight! Other than that, no discomfort. We're going on a 3 hour hike tomorrow. I hope to leave this review as it stands. If I don't update it, consider this a positive thing. If I do, it may go back. 4You CAN get a compatible sun shade directly from the Phil&Teds site!We bought this pack to carry our one-year-old around Europe for two weeks. I picked this one because it collapses pretty flat and is a more minimal design.I couldn t find a sun shade on Amazon, but I bought the Metro Escape Carrier Hood from the Phil&Teds site, and it seems to fit great! 4Limited useThis is the best design possible for a lightweight and compact toddler backpack, but it's just not that comfortable, it just doesn't give enough support. It's a nice alternative to the full-on camping toddler carriers in theory, but I would rather just toss down the extra 100 for one of those. I can see why they wanted to make this -- most people want to use it around the city instead of the stroller for various reasons and a camping or hiking one is pretty bulky, but unless you're in great physical shape you'll be tired well within the hour. Also it's not great for the kid to fall asleep in with no head support. Also not great for being outside in the sun with no canopy. So basically the use cases for this item are quick trips to the corner store in the winter not during nap time and only if you've seen the inside of a gym lately. 3Back painI've used this for day hiking with my 30 pound child and it's just not comfortable on me or my husband. The major flaw it has for me is I am petite 5'3 with a short torso and the pack offers no adjustments so the bottom of the pack sits on my butt making it uncomfortable to walk. It also pulls on your shoulders really good due to how far back the child sits, again no way to adjust that. It caused serious pain in both my husband and my shoulders after wearing for only 20 minutes, I was attracted to the size and price of the pack but it is not designed well for bigger children or small framed people. 2
