Customer Reviews

Not Perfect But It Suits Our NeedsWe needed a place to hang coats and store miscellaneous items in our mud room and this product appeared to suit our needs. The reviews on Amazon and other sellers overall were decent so we ordered it.First of all, make sure you find out where your wall studs are and that the shelf mounting (3 screws provided) will align where you want it to go. You will have to drill three holes in the wall mounting piece where the wall studs are but all other parts of the shelf have existing holes in them. A power drill, screw driver, and rubber mallet (for dowels) will be needed. The main reason for a three star review is that during installation, one of the inserts broke while screwing it in, and one of the threaded screws was, well, unthreaded and didn t have the proper Phillips head (just a blank). See photos. So hubby had to make an extra trip to a hardware store to find a proper replacement. We could have contacted the manufacturer but it would have taken a few days to get a replacement.Like other reviewers, we did have some small gaps after assembly, and some of the finish flaked off at edges, but for us, these didn t matter because the rack isn t visible to guests and the coating defects are in back areas. The parts are a composite, not solid wood. This piece is definitely handy for us and is plenty big enough.3Really does the job!I read several of the reviews that stated that the back of the unit was unsightly, and would need baskets to cover up this design flaw. I have to agree, but with that in mind - I came up with an inexpensive and easy solution. When I got the unit, I saved the box it arrived in. I put it together easily by myself. Before I attached any portion of the back, I put the unit on the cardboard box, and traced the inside of each cubby. Finished building the unit and hung it by myself. Keep in mind that the support beam that attaches to your wall does not have any starter holes, since you will need to do a little math to figure out where you want the unit to hang on your wall in relation to where your studs in the wall are - and drill the holes accordingly. Mine came with two 4 inch wood screws to fasten the support beam to the wall. After I hung the unit, I cut out my traced pieces from the cardboard box, wrapped them with fabric I cut from a valance I bought at the local K-Mart, and pushed them into place. Looks great and does the job in my laundry/mud room!4Instructions suckedLet me first say that even though I thought I was awesome at putting things like this together, this was not the case with this. It took me and a coworker to put it together and we had to take it apart once or twice to get it to the finished product. None of the pieces were labeled and they would say different numbers for the exact same thing. Also I am very very concerned about how it is hanging on my wall, if it were real solid wood as apposed to what it is I wouldn't be as concerned but.... Oh well, its still up.Good side is that it is nice looking. I have been given some nice compliments about it so far. I wish there was a black board to cover the entire back area but thats preference.5great idea, needs improvement to stabilize and for appearanceLike-great capacity, easy to construct, decent price, nice appearance, sturdy ( with proper backing).Dislike-I read the reviews, saw the pictures of broken down items & decided to purchase the coathanger with intentions of making the item more sturdy. When I assembled it, I put wood glue on all connecting fake wood pieces. I let dry an hour & was very impressed, EXTREMELY sturdy! Unfortunately, I feel the reason that one broke off the wall (dangerous & expensive) was the fake wood that is beveled, doesn't have much strength. THAT is why I added a 1/4" thick piece of wood subfloor, glued it to the entire back of the cabinet & put about 40 small brad nails to secure it. I let it dry and hour & then mounted it to 4 wall studs, I also put 2 screws in the bottom, which I feel should allow the extra WOOD and friction from the bottom to be a tremendous bond to the wall. I also saw the screws and knew that they didn't go in nearly enough because fake wood has no strength, it is mush. I went to my local hardware dealer & purchased really long black sheetrock screws that go through the fake wood, my 1/4 inch addition and slightly into the wall. This is one more added bond to the wall. I know that this is overkill, but I didn't want to risk my granddaughter getting hurt when over here, or hurting my cabinet. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase, knowing that fake wood (I knew that beforehand) will scratch easily overtime, but I felt the price was decent enough to put up with this. If the manufacturer of the coatrack would include a small bottle of wood glue (or say it is necessary), include longer screws and 1/4" WOOD backing, I would have given this item a 5, it is very nice (although like others, I have a 1/4" gap in the corner, but can be concealed easily)4Heavy! solid, relatively easy to assembleThis is a very heavy piece. It arrived in perfect condition. The assembly directions are mostly pictures, very few words. This mostly works okay, except for a few steps. For example, when placing the three walls between the cubbies, it was unclear that there is one specific wall that goes in the middle and the two walls to either side have an up and a down (we, of course, noticed this AFTER placing one side wall upside down. Luckily we'd ended up with the correct one in the middle by pure luck). This could probably be assembled by one adult, but is much easier with two due to how heavy the piece is. Hanging it definitely takes two adults. My only frustration with the completed piece has been finding baskets that will fit in the cubbies, as they are non-standard size (13"W x 10"D x 8"H). This is complicated by the fact that if you can find a 13x10 basket, the handles are usually on the 10" sides, which means there won't be one facing outward if you use it in the cubby.4Mixed feelings on this.First, the plus points...* It arrived quickly and in excellent condition. This is the first item of "put-together-yourself" furniture I've ever received that wasn't damaged in some way. 5 stars for this.* Although it's pressboard and heavy, for it's size it was lighter than I thought it would be at least in relation to other pressboard items I've dealt with. Hanging it on a wall still requires at least 2 people though. 3 people would be better and safer. It is what it is and what it was advertised to be, so 5 stars for this too.* The hardware bits provided to put the piece together were sturdy. I was impressed that the cam locks were so strong with none of them breaking or bending during installation. Even the plastic dowels were of good quality. Definitely 5 stars for this.Second, the half and half points...* The overall look is nice and the cubby sections are pretty large for storing stuff. (More stuff will make it heavier so just be absolutely sure it's secured to the wall safely. This thing will HURT if it falls on someone, maybe even "I need to go to the hospital" kind of hurt.) The laminate over the pressboard is not the best I've ever seen and looks a little off and slightly fake, which it is of course, but I've seen much better out there. I bought the espresso color but I may end up painting mine to make it look nicer. 4 stars for the overall look and storage capacity. 1.5 stars for the look of the laminate.* It doesn't show in the photo but there is no full back board for behind the cubby sections. There is a section of about 4-5" high that runs the entire length of the shelf that the wall will show through. I suppose it could be useful for putting electrical cords through from the wall to the cubby shelf for items such as a digital photo frame or cell phone charger. If you fill each cubby up you shouldn't be able to see the wall but if you don't you'll have a wall colored strip of space poking out through the dark colored shelf. Or you will have to paint the wall a dark color or place some dark paper or other type of backing in each cubby. Overall, I find this very odd because the contrast doesn't look right. 1 star for the design with a push to 2.5 stars for maybe being useful for cords. (If cord usage was an intended purpose of the design there is no reason the opening had to be so big/high.)Last, the negative points...* I've put quite a bit of this type of furniture together and by far this was the MOST frustrating piece I've ever encountered. The directions weren't horrible but none of the pieces were labeled as far as A, B, C, etc... and determining up from down and side to side was tedious. I put it together and took it apart multiple times in order to get it right. 1 or less star for not labeling the components.* Hanging this item seems to be an afterthought to the design. Yes, instructions are provided but no hardware is included. Basically you are supposed to screw the shelf directly to the wall straight through the back boards. No pilot drill holes are provided, you are just supposed to find your studs behind the wall and secure the shelf to these. However, the really bad part is that each screw you use will show on the visible part of the back board. The designer seemed to take pains to make the shelf look nice with all the cam locks and dowels being hidden and then says to screw right through the laminate with your own screws in order to put it on the wall. I honestly don't know what the designer was thinking here. I didn't like this option so I purchased some metal picture brackets, the really thick, long and overlapping ones, and used these to secure the shelf to my wall. I give 0 stars for the hanging design.Final thoughts...This shelf is okay. I probably wouldn't purchase it again or recommend it to anyone who is even slighting mechanically disadvantaged. It requires a lot of patience and some thinking "outside the box" to make it work. I was able to make it work for me so I gave it 3 stars in total. Just be aware of its drawbacks.3Read reviews I'm happy ish lolWould have been 5 stars but few things bug me. I over all Love it! I bought along with this a shoe storage bench and a 3 part cubby! Love em!But this one is actually the second one. First was delivered and was broken ! Cracked snapped in half because it was 100% s returned item and wasn't checked and repackaged with foam to keep t safe in transit !But putting it together Vey Simple! Maybe 30 minutes! Then my hubsand and I hung it. That takes 2 people I think. But I'm sure he could have done it with out me.The only this I hate is not getting those little nuns to cover the giant anchor screws, so I'll have to figure that out...And I don't know if my rear stabilizer board was supposed to have a bottom unfinished but it does and I checked both boards no finished sides. And after we hung the unit you can 100% see the unfinished cork looking wood. So I'll need to figure out how to cover it or hide it with decor or some sort. Not the end of the world but just annoying lol.I ordered this along with 2 other matching items bench/ shoe cubby and the 3 section cubby bench. This item was delivered first very fast delivery. But is was extremely damaged! Broke in half, cracked, chips, and scratches all over. Called the company Easy fast customer service and it was re ordered and in the mail for return the next day.... now with saying that after the next 2 items came I. Perfect condition the BIG difference was this item has ZERO packing material foam sheets or cardboard separating the pieces / keeping the wood from shifting or sliding around... so either I got a returned item that wasn't inspected or someone in packaging dropped the ball !The other matching items I love!!! So once I get the replacement item wall mounted hanging rack I'll give my review ! But I bet it's amazing like the benches I got !Looooove this!!! I saw it on wayfair few weeks back. It's not solid real wood so when wayfair priced it at $173.00 I couldn't pay that much for something that is a step up from IKEA style furniture!!!But I saw it here around Black Friday for $89.00 and I jumped on it!! Took about a week for delivery by it free (Prime) .... took me all of 20 minutes to put together VERY simple to do! I was very impressed on the over look and thinking it was "IKEA" style when reading the discription online I have to say it's Way better then anything IKEA does.My 3 and 5 year have already sat and stood on it. Very heavy and very sturdy and I'm not worried the nuts/ bolts will come free from the abuse my kids will do lol.I did have my husband add a wood block under it towards the back for a brace since my kids sat on it. ((( there is a match bench /shoe cubby that comes with the block brace so I added based on that model and then being the same length))The only thing I would do if this was on hard wood floors I would buy better pads to nail to be bottom to not scratch the floors. The ones that come with this are tiny hard black plastic which will protect the cubby from damage. The shoe bench is amazing for little kid shoes. Adult shoes I have to squeeze in or do one shoe per hole. But I bought this for the kids so I'm happy4I have put together numerous items like this before and know to be careful but the ...This product is made of cheap laminated pressboard. I have put together numerous items like this before and know to be careful but the kit comes with over-sized dual threaded plastic screws that completely ruined my entire shelf. The holes are not big enough to handle these screws and the process to put in some of these screws against opposing wood components is a poor design. It looks great but very sad that this kit is now nothing more than firewood.1DangerousI follow the directions explicitly installing it into the beams using a stud finder the following with in one day the shelf s support beam snapped and fell off-the-wall breaking an antique bowl that was my grandmothers as well as the shelf and ruining my hardwood floor. Luckily no one was home and none of my children were hurt. The three items I had on the shelf nowhere exceeded the weight limit or even came close to it. This is a very dangerous items even if installed correctly. Not only are my floor is ruined but one of my price with heirlooms destroyed.1Terrible ConstructionI purchased 3 items from PrePac for our entryway in the garage. This is by far a piece of junk. We started with the Entryway cubbie shelf. My husband (a carpenter) put this thing together. There are gaps in the entire construction, the holes for the four hooks were all crooked (which he will have to fix), there is an unfinished edge that is visible. The white entryway organizer (taller piece) arrived damaged. It will go back with no exchange. We will put together the shoe storage cubbie bench next, hoping it goes together a little better looking.1
