Customer Reviews

Good overall, but not the best Purchased this to replace a waterpix handheld shower head, because the angle-adjustable bracket holder started leaking. The waterpix head seemed to provide better cover from the spray, more spray options, and the same if not better pressure compared to the Speakman model. I wish it had more options than just two different spray modes (spread, and massage). Yes, you can adjust the pressure between the two, but there's still only two. So, for example, if you were looking for a tighter spray to try and clean out a razor, this head probably won't work for you. And the pressure doesn't seem so spectacular like some of the reviews posted here (I have a well pump so I have lower pressure, but was hoping for a better result than my waterpix). Also, for some reason, the Speakman won't hold it's angle in place - it just slowly angles downward. I tried tightening the hardware, which helped, but didn't fix it. I contacted Speakman about the problem, and asked if they could send me a new part - just waiting to see what they come back with. If they won't send me a new part, I will be returning the item via Amazon. Otherwise, overall, it's a good unit for the price and most people will probably be happy with it. It's made in China, but they appear to back the product by a lifetime warranty. 3Works well and an attractive price. My wife and I have owned and liked Speakman products for a long time. We have had one of their Anystream fixed shower heads in our master bathroom for several years. We were looking for a reasonably priced hand shower for our guest bathroom and decided to try this one based on our experience with the brand and the design.Installation was a breeze. My experience with "hand tighten only" shower heads has been mixed at best. This one had all the gaskets pre-installed and was up in ten minutes, secure and leak free. The unit is made in China. It is mostly plastic. The plastic feels more substantial than other brands we've owned and looked at. The finish is good. The rear of the adapter (that part of the adapter that attaches to the shower arm) is metal where it attaches to the shower arm, but the front part of the adapter (that has the threaded fitting to attach the flexible pipe and that holds the shower head itself when not being used as a hand shower) is plastic. The shower head fits into the adapter securely, and there is a decent range of up/down motion to accommodate users of different heights. We have this one mounted on an 'S' shower arm, which allows for adequate clearance for a 6 foot tall person and still keeps the shower head below the top of the shower curtain. The flexible pipe that connects the adapter to the shower head feels like it is made of metal, and is one of the lightest, most flexible designs I've seen. Don't force anything and treat it as you would any other plastic item (no scratchy cleaners, don't drop or bang the shower head, etc.) and you should be fineWe bought a 2.5 GPM unit. It provides a very good shower. Coverage is just right. The spray intensity is easy to adjust, even with soapy hands. The massage is a narrow, high-force stream which some people might not care for. At full shower intensity (just before the massage setting) I feel this hand held unit is just a notch below our fixed Speakman Anyflow shower head, which provides an excellent shower. We'll see how this unit holds up over time, but the early returns are very good! 4Very good... not quite great I was quite pleased with this shower head. I received it yesterday and liked the look out of the box. When you open it, make sure you don't overlook the TINY little bag with the white plumbing tape inside. It's about the size of the end of my pinky fingerThe handle is plastic, but so was my old Waterpik, so that doesn't really bother me. The hose has a very nice look and feel. The first thing I did was remove the flow restrictor, once I figured out which piece it was! I called Speakman, but they aren't "allowed to tell me how to remove it". I asked if they could just tell me what it looks like. Nope. I figured it out myself. There is a screen, which is not it, another completely white piece that seemed like it COULD be it, but wasn't, and then the actual piece which is white with a small black ring... BINGO! I just reached in with my needle nose pliers and removed it easily. I've added a picture showing the piece and the small package of tape.Installation was very easy, the toughest part was removing my old mount. It only took a couple of minutes and no leaks! Make sure you take the time to wrap each of the threads with the tape before screwing the pieces together and you should be good! I also took a second to oil the ball joint just a tad to make adjusting it easier as it was fairly stiff out of the box. Now, to try it out! It shows there are 3 setting, and technically I guess there are, but I would call it 2. There are no "stops" on the settings and the "combination" really just seems like you hit it by accident switching from Intense to Massage. The Intense setting is just your basic shower. The flow was quite good, but not the kind that hits you like stinging needles. I was hoping for, but not expecting that type of pressure. The Massage was also good, even very good, but again, not the knock me off my feet like a firehose pressure that I occasionally run across in hotels. Sigh.Overall, this is a very good shower head for the money and I'm pleased with my purchase. 4The best shower head The best shower head.It took very long to figure out how to break through the water saver. It's at the end of the hose that connects to the wall side. It has a white plastic insert which has 6 small holes. I couldn't remove this piece. I took a drill and widened the holes until the mid section came apart from the outside.Doing this doubled or tripled the water output. There were other things i removed, but they didn't help much.I would definitely buy this again. 5powerful I don't have low water pressure, so I don't know how it works in that situation, but this thing is powerful. I was expecting a "nice" stream but am amazed at the power of the water coming out of it. I use it mostly in the standard flow. I am not much of a water massage user, but of course the force the water comes out is high. This shower head is a bargain compared to the price of some of the high end heads I have seen. I would be willing to replace the other two shower heads in my home if I didn't pay 3-5 times the price for them when I redid the bathrooms. I would feel like I threw the money away for nothing. 5Finally a handheld I like!!!!!!!!! I hate wimpy shower flow. Takes too long and isn't enjoyable at all. Got this one and took the little piece out of the shower head itself (used tweezers), installed and got in. Power so hard had to turn down a bit. Yes the Angels started singing. Cut through my hair like air. Shampoo and rinse so fast makes me smile. Will get more for other house showers. Love it.******* Have had it a while now and I have ordered another for different bathroom. Another point, the handle is very lightweight and easy to hold and put in/take out of the holder itself. I have had others that are more difficult to deal with b/c I am short and deal with arthritis. I am VERY HAPPY with this showerhead. 5Disappointed! I purchased this brand because Speakman is what Marriott hotels have in most of their showers. I bought it in January and replaced it in August. I was never impressed by the water pressure. Handheld was more convenient that stationary but it didn't improve the water pressure at all. In August, it started to leak despite tightening everything up snug. I took the part that was leaking apart and found the seals were in terrible shape and that "ball" that is in there was all pitted . I replaced it with a $20 Mee Yoo unit and love the new one. 2This is a pretty good shower head This is a pretty good shower head. I originally bought it to be used as the only shower head, and to be used to wash the dogs. I eventually got another shower head with an adapter that lets me choose between the main shower head and this hand held simply because it has no shut off function. I like to save hot water as the hot water is limited and I had no option to do that with this shower head. Also it doesn't have specific settings on it. That is to say it's not like click setting one click setting two click setting three etc. It has a sliding outside that changes the flow and pressure to different nozzles on the head. So if you are looking for 7 unique settings get something else. This is more of a slide it till you find something you like and hope you can get there again. 5Excellent but with some caveats I finally got fed up enough with our weak shower pressure to do something definitive about it. Purchasing this Speakman VS-3014 was part of the overall solution. I absolutely love the simple elegant design with no compromise of utility. Concentrating the water into 5 "mini-heads" maximizes the use of what water pressure you do have and it looks cool too!In spite of the high-quality appearance I do not like the creaky plastic construction. I really wish they would have made a chrome-plated brass version like the ICON S-2252. I get the feeling using the shower head that it won't stand up to many years of use and that I'll be replacing this as often as "el cheapo" home improvement store showers. As much as Speakman markets this as a "high-pressure" device, in practice I do not believe that this is true - unless they mean taking high pressure inlet water and reducing it to a limp stream. It comes with 2 flow regulators. One in the flexible line that they call a "vacuum breaker" which does serve a purpose beyond dropping water pressure but it certainly is much more effective at that. This is a white part that looks like an old speaker. Do not snap this off unless you are prepared to remove the white fitting from the hose and grind the base down flush to accept the rubber sealing washer. The second flow regulator is in the inlet of the shower handle. Its a plastic aerator-looking device with a solid round center and a small o-ring covering up part of the water flow opening. This can be pried out without any worries.NOTE: Speakman's documentation calls the metal screen in the base that mounts to the shower's bent elbow a "flow regulator". That term is laughable and deceptive as it is not really what is restricting flow and dropping pressure from shower inlet to outlet. Their so-called "flow-regulator" is a mineral and debris trap and is good to keep to prevent debris in the water from entering the shower head and clogging the internals.2.5 GPM regulation: The federal regulation is well-intentioned and actually 2.5 gallons/min is a LOT of water. The problem I have (as many others probably do) is in the application of this regulation by the govt. and/or the manufacturers. It seems like each manufacturer is required to treat the inlet flow to their device as something greater than 2.5 GPM and then they add passive flow regulators to ensure the outlet flow is no more than 2.5 GPM. The problem is that there is always more than one device inline (ex. the shower valve then the shower) and we are left with this cascading effect of multiple flow regulators reducing the flow down to something hardly usable. I have a Moen shower value that I had to disassemble and modify to reduce the flow restriction. Even with that and the two Speakman regulators removed I get 1.4 GPM flow in my shower. I didn't measure what it was before this project but it was indeed terrible. My 2006-built house has puny pipes going up to the bathroom (sigh). It would be great if these shower manufacturers (hey Speakman!) would add some kind of hydraulic active flow regulation to their products so if the inlet flow from the house and valve to the shower head is 2.5GPM or less there is no additional flow restriction - only restrict what is above 2.5GPM.----- Update 11/19/2015 (the less-obvious hydraulic flow regulator) -----The shower is still working great. In my quest to conquer lousy flow I replaced the Speakman flexible sprayer hose that has the "vacuum breaker" flow restrictor with a standard sprayer hose replacement like this one:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QNIT7OIIt was pretty inexpensive and produced a noticeable improvement over the original Speakman hose. My next step will be to replace the shower mount arm with a model like this:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JYPDFY0This has a more uniform flow cavity which will more closely match the pressure and flow of the incoming water from your wall. The original Speakman arm is a larger, hollow vessel whereby incoming water dumps into a larger-volume area and exits out of the other small outlet causing a lower, turbulent flow. This is a less-obvious hydraulic flow regulator. So in the end I'll have only the Speakman handheld spray head but I should also have a pretty decent bump in how it actually flows. Hopefully Speakman will address these flow issues in future product revisions - or if not just sell the handheld spray head separately. :-) 4A Nice Replacement Shower Head I like this shower head, plain and simple. It is a water-saver style shower head, and it does appear one could remove the water restrictor from the hose, but, I was in a hurry and left it in and it hasn't been an issue. One thing I will say about the installation:On the hose, do NOT remove the tag showing which end of the hose is which until AFTER the hose has been attached to the water supply pipe. I made the mistake of removing the tag before the installation and when the hose and shower head was attached and the water turned on, I found out the hard way I had the hose connected the wrong way. It was a mess, but easily corrected by switching the hose around. Save yourself the time and the mess by leaving the tag on the hose until it is connected.Beyond that, this shower head feels well-made, it looks nice, and, if there's decent water pressure to start with, the water-saving properties of this shower head are not really noticeable. 4
