    Wish I would have paid a little more & got a better one.I guess you get what you pay for. It's reasonably priced, it cuts well & seems sharp. However, the plastic guide at the top is not straight! I am cutting photos for an album & the guide has a wave to it & part of one corner of the picture slides under one corner of the guide. Therefor you cut is not straight. There needs to be a metal guide at the top so it is more accurate. Wish I would have paid a little more & got a better one.... disappointed.....2Cuts through paper like a hot knife through butter!I've been using a 20 year old paper cutter and finally got tired of the dull blade and decided to buy a new one. This paper cutter works wonderfully! It can easily cut through 10 to 15 sheets of paper. There is a nice plastic guide that helps hold the paper down and keep it straight. The blade is extremely sharp and has held up to me cutting hundreds of name badges out of heavyweight printer paper. So far I've not had any issues with the paper bending or slipping when I cut - the blade goes right through the stack every time! And when you're only cutting through one or two sheets it's almost like the paper isn't even there!5UTTERLY TERRIBLE -- Does not cut squareI just received this and needed exactly one minute after unpacking to see that it is going back. This trimmer does not cut at a right angle, far from it. Even the grid painted on the surface is not parallel to the knife -- so much so, that it is visible to the naked eye. I measured it with a carpenter's square and the error over the full 12 inches of the knife is more than an eighth of an inch and actually closer to a quarter of an inch (see the photos). Laughably bad -- even for a Chinese product this is a disaster. Useless.1BEST BLADE GUILLOTINE CUTTER EVER!LOVE IT. Im a paper bead maker/card maker/scrapper. And I have been searching for a good cutter. They are NOT easy to find.This one is awesome. It can cut thru half of a thick magazine at once. Which really goes a long way with me making beads.It's very sturdy and very well made. I love that I can remove the plastic guard shield when I need to and snap it back on when I need to.Its very sharp and cuts evenly and precise. The grid and measuremnts are awesome too (printed on. board). I have finally found the cutter for me, this is the only one I"ll ever buy again. Im sure it will last a long time because it's very well made .5Wonderful! Better than it looks in picture.If you want an old-style paper cutter but don't want to pay that much, this is for you.I thought it would be flimsy and not have the satisfying and sharp cut that the old elementary school ones had--WRONG.It's just like being back in Miss Alley's 2nd grade again. Wood top gives it heft, grid makes it accurate. If you need to cut lots of paper often, this is a great option.5Perfect! The product is lightPerfect! The product is light, safe, accurate, and sharp. I had left my old heavy one behind when I moved and was not happy with my used rotary-blade trimmer I thought I could use as a replacement. I finally broke down and ordered a new guillotine-trimmer when Amazon informed me that this product was on sale. The rubber feet prevent slipping. The plastic guard does not get in the way for me, as one reviewer had noted. The product is better than what I had, and the timing was just right! Little did I know I would be making a large-volume craft for my son's wedding which I could not have made without the trimmer. Also, I am very happy with the Amazon's notification of sale price for items I have browsed or put on my wish list. I did make one change: at the bottom, I taped a paper measuring tape which had come in a sewing kit from a dollar store. The printed grid is 1/2 inch increments, but having the inches numbered is helpful for me.5Manufacturers defect on paper cutter.This item was purchased June 26th through Amazon for a business, and we just found out that the graphics on the board that r supposed to help you line the paper straight are not straight themselves!According to Amazon we have passed our return date.I was hoping someone from Westcott would contact me and make good on this manufacturers defect.1Doesn't cut squareUnfortunately, the product that I received did not cut square.1Good Cutter - Useless Guide - UNEVEN BASEI print a lot of flyers (half, 1/4, etc) and finally considered buying a cutter.I was going to buy Fiskars Recycled 12-Inch Bypass Trimmer (01-005452) - but, saw this Westcott for $10 more from AWD with great reviews, so I got it.I bought it on April 21, 2017, and today, was the first time I used it.I did some simple cutting, single sheet of paper covered with wide, clear tape on both sides (cheap "laminating" for signs).I immediately noticed the guide was more of an obstruction rather than help, I agree with other reviewers, it does not appear to help in cutting straight.I removed the plastic guide, I then noticed the BIG problem. From the top of the cutter (looking down, North to South << where the handle is)the board is not FLUSH with the metal bar (with 4 screws). I just now checked it again (too lazy to take photos), and this issue runs along thewhole board/metal bar, except that it's worse at the top by the FIRST SCREW. There, the unevenness is more noticeable.Other than that, the blade did a good job on a SINGLE SHEET - I'll def test it on 5 or 10 sheets at a time (which is part of the reason why I bought = the ability to cut more sheets at once).Since I'm outside the return window, I'll have to keep this and go from there.INSPECT YOUR CUTTER AS SOON AS YOU GET IT :)3Don't buy for any projects requiring precision, but its okay for cutting stacks of paper you don't need to be exactly straight.If you are someone who grocery shops with internet printable coupons and want to make your life easier, this thing is great. Great enough for that purpose that I gave it a star. I was using it to quickly cut stacks of coupons with little regard to how straight the cut was, as long as the barcode wasn't being cut I was golden. I never noticed how crooked this thing was because I wasn't trying that hard to line it up correctly.Now, fast forward almost a year since I've bought it, and I have a newborn whom I've got a ton of pictures of that I want to frame. I think to myself, "this thing is perfect! I should be able to easily get perfect straight lines to fit the frames exactly!" Thankfully I only printed 2 photos before I attempted to trim them to an exact size for a frame and quickly realized that this thing is not accurately aligned, and there appears to be no way to adjust it. The guard does easily pop off with little force, but that didn't really get me anywhere. And of course, since I took so long to realize this problem, I'm well past the return window.I'm attaching a photo of a picture I cut with this trimmer. I put it on a black background so if you look at the edges you should be able to see that it cuts slightly off when lined up exactly straight. Its not a tremendous amount, but I'm finding it bothers me enough to make me not want to use it for photos - and also it bothered me enough to get on Amazon and write a review while holding a baby. If anyone has ever tried to do that before, they know how annoyed I am right now.2
