So disappointed. Arrived dented TWICE. Disappointed. Ordered one and it arrived with a huge dent, and with one bag of popcorn instead of the advertised 4. Sent it back and requested another, that also arrived dented. The two pictures are from the two different orders. Was excited to gift this and so embarrassed when he opened it and it was all beat up! 1My husband & I love having regular movie nights My husband & I love having regular movie nights. We make popcorn with Peanut M&Ms and watch movies. This is a last minute idea because the gift I was going to get him wasn't going to make it to our house in time for Christmas. I bought this out of impulse and I am so glad that I did. We love it! It is super easy to use, fun to make, and ridiculously easy to clean up. It takes great and we went to the movies after buying this and we liked our popcorn more than the theaters. I would definitely buy again! 5Excellent Customer Service So, my popper arrived and I set it on the stove with the intention of washing, seasoning and using it that evening. At some point I put a kettle of water on the stove to boil...having recently moved and not familiar enough with my burners I suddenly realized I had turned the wrong burner on...that's right, the burner with the shiney new empty popper. I immediately grabbed the nice wood handle, afraid I would now have scorch marks on the bottom, but it was much worse than that. The bottom was gone. Liquified and melted into my burner. Think of the wicked witch in The Wizard of Oz when she gets drenched with water. It wasn't damaged or warped, it was GONE. And it was my fault for turning on the wrong burner. I went to Whirley-pops web site, explained what happened and asked how to get a new pan...the lid was just fine. The very next day I got an email from Amanda at Whirley-Pop, she explained the proper way to use it, but she knew it was an accident on my part and she sent me a new pan, no charge for the pan or shipping. It arrived in three days. WOW!!! The customer service is fantastic! Yes, these pans are thin, but you want them thin so they heat up quickly and pop your corn in just a few minutes, and they do make a great batch of popcorn. However, I would suggest that you never, ever, ever store the pan on the stove. Also I've never turned the burner up higher than medium, and it pops in no time. It's a great popper and excellent customer service. Thank you Amanda! 5popper does a good job I bought this on sale because of some issues with "damage" -- well... there was none. The pan itself is a lot lighter than I expected, but it does a really good job with the popcorn and the pan full is just enough serving size for what I need. The set also included some "theater style" popcorn kits - which I suspect were kinda old - and I couldn't use because the oil they use makes my mouth break out. Everyone else liked it just fine. I got some other popcorn and it worked really well. Looking forward to checking out different types of "gourmet" popcorns. This pan cleans up really well too, which I really appreciate at. Once the popcorn has been poured out of the pan, the pan cools down very quickly and is not so much of a threat for burning fingers. Another good deal from Amazon. 4Fun time around the camp fire. This was a great gift. It popped quickly and clean up was easy. I put it on the dishwasher and it came out like new. I used the included popcorn/oil/season pack. It tasted great. 5Cheap Construction, But Amazing Popcorn! Were it not for it's alarmingly flimsy construction, this baby would be a 5-star review! The pieces all fit together, at least, and the top comes off if you want to wash it (I just wipe mine out really well) but the prongs on the inside that stir the popcorn were funny. When I'd turn the handle, they'd scrape part of the side of the pot. I'm not sure if they were off-center or what, but I bent them with my fingers, ever so slightly and now they clear the sides just fine.I'm not sure if I've got too much oil in the pot or what (I didn't get any directions with mine) but when the popcorn starts popping, the oil spits out the little vents on the top and along the seams of the cover. Putting a wet dishrag over the openings where the crank handle is keeps my arms from getting burned by flying, hot oil.The plastic gears along the top don't look like they'll hold up very well for any length of time, but it's noticeably harder to crank when the popcorn is done, so I quit cranking and they've been fine thus far. I don't make popcorn every day, but it doesn't take that long to whip up a batch using the Whirley-Pop.I think if I had it to do over again, I'd spring for the Stainless Steel version with metal gears. I suspect that it would probably last longer, but so far this one has been fine. Like I said, I don't make much popcorn, but if I did, the metal gears would probably last longer.I haven't tried any of the popcorn that came with my popper. I have a local brand that I prefer and that pops up great! I find I don't even have to add butter or oil after popping - there's enough to keep it from being dry and sticking in my throat, but it's not greasy or soggy at all.I really like my Whirley-Pop, cheapo construction could be better, but the popcorn is amazing! 4Love This Popcorn Popper For years I bought microwave popcorn but wanted to pop corn on the stove like I used to years ago. I looked around for a popper like this and of course no one sells them in the stores close to me so I read the reviews and decided to order this. I nearly didn't get my order because FedEx delivered my order to a house one block over but my neighbor brought it over to me luckily.I've used two of the packets that came with the popper and it does make great popcorn and that is one of my favorite snacks. I also ordered the Flavorcal and colored coconut oil so I can just buy popping corn since that will be cheaper than buying the pre measured packets and both have come out great.This is so much better than microwave popcorn plus you get a larger amount by making your own popcorn. It is a lot more healthy using the coconut oil also .I have a Stir Crazy popper but it's a pain to clean, then I bought the microwave bowl to pop corn in and it usually left about half the corn unpopped , but this does a great job, I haven't had any up popped corn left when I've used this and I've made popcorn about 4 times so far. I would recommend this popper to anyone that wants a good popper with easy cleanup, just wipe it out with a couple of paper towels after each use. 5Tips for your Whirley Pop. I have purchased several Whirley Pop Popcorn Poppers from Amazon and other locations. Everyone who sees me use it wants one and thus I have given them to friends as Christmas presents. Rather than restate many things covered in other reviews I will point out a few things.Before popping make sure the tips of the arms that stir the popcorn are pointed up. If these become flipped while cleaning and the tips point down the tips grind the bottom of the pan.The directions tell you not to use butter but I have no problem using a mix of half butter and half olive oil.When buying packages of premeasured popcorn/salt/oil do not buy the 8 oz. size. These are too large for the popper and you have to take it off of the stove before it completes. This results in very salty and oily popcorn. Stick with the 4 or 6 oz. packages.Remember, solid oils are bad for you and this is what is used in most packages that include the popcorn, oil and salt. If you are buying a Whirley Pop to get away from the hazards of microwave popcorn then consider using olive oil.Crank slowly. All you need to do is move the popcorn around for even heating. Cranking too fast causes the popcorn to push up onto the side of the pan.Once the popping is done it may seem convenient to shake a cheese mix into the pan and use the crank to mix it into the popcorn. If you do this the cheese with stick to the shaft and arms of the popper. Pour your popcorn into a bowl before adding flavorings. 5Works great! This gift set is apparently identical to the more expensive Whirley-Pop Popper option here on Amazon, as it comes with the 6-quart popper and some bags of coconut oil and popcorn. I got mine this afternoon and was popping perfect popcorn minutes later, after a quick wash of the popper.The popper itself is of high quality, with a wood-clad turning handle and nylon gears that operate smoothly when cranking.The main pot is made of good quality aluminum--not very thick and heavy, but certainly sturdy enough to last for years. The lid is pretty thin though and it would be easy to warp or bend it. The steam holes do let out lots of steam during popping and care should be exercised when holding the crank not to get steam or hot oil burns from those vents.Cooking the popcorn is as easy as you would expect it to be. The oil heats evenly and smoothly and the crank keeps the kernals evenly heated so that popping happens quickly and over a short period of time, which actually prevents the popcorn from burning. The crank turns smoothly, with a little more effort required as the popped kernals fill the kettle.Clean-up is easy--a little soap and water will get even burned sugar out of the kettle, I discovered. Some people just wipe the inside and leave it.All-in-all a good value for a pot dedicated to popcorn. If you're serious about your popcorn, this is an affordable choice. My brother has a stainless steel pot and he said that the plastic viewport in his melted. Although this one is made of aluminum, it actually seems better made. Buy with confidence. 5Pops Everything! Works better than I expected! My father got this as a gift a long time ago... He let me have it because I have five kids and we eat popcorn a lot... and I wanted to get away from all of the chemicals in microwave popcorn as one of my kids has an autoimmune disorder. I thought this was silly at first... Now I CAN NOT LIVE WITHOUT IT! I absolutely LOVE this contraption... i use to get so many old maids when i popped stovetop popcorn... I have since bought this for my Sister in law and another one as a gift as well! It doe feel bulky to store with the top/handle/spinner.... but if you store that flat behind in the cupboard it isn't in the way too much. Once this one wears out (if it ever does) I will be buying it yet again! 5
