Customer Reviews

Working well in my shower so far I was tired of my shower's p-trap letting gases up in to the bathroom, so I thought I'd try this as a cheaper solution than dealing with whatever plumbing problem is causing that. The stinky gases have stopped coming up, but I was worried that it might not let the water flow down as fast as the shower head puts it out, but it works just fine as long as you push it about 2 to 3 inches down in to the drain (use needle nose plier to grab the top and adjust its position). If you position it right, you won't be standing in a puddle as you shower. It gets five stars from me for now, but only time will tell if this item works for me in the longer term. I have no idea yet what effect normal showering will have on it, or how often my wife's long hair will clog this up. 5This waterless drain trap is well-made and feels like a good quality item Summary, Works well at blocking odors, but drains too slow. This waterless drain trap is well-made and feels like a good quality item. It was easy to install - simply remove the drain cover and push it in and it seals well. It is also easy to remove by pulling up from the center. It works very well at stopping foul odors from coming up the drain. I think this would be ideal in a floor drain with occasional small amounts of water.I would NOT recommend it in a shower drain unless you have a water saving showerhead. My rainfall shower head lets out much more water than this can drain so it starts puddling quickly. Overall, it did not work well for my specific needs so I promptly returned it.COMPARISON: I have also used the sureseal brand of drain trap. The sureseal brand drain trap drains water much quicker so the water does not puddle at all. The problem with the sureseal brand is that the flap starts to sag after about a year of use and it stops working as intended and will not block the drain/sewer odors. For now, I will replace the sureseal brand every year if necessary until I find a more durable product that flows fast enough for my rainfall showerhead. 3No more stink! New to us townhouse has a stinky basement shower drain. Every time one of the 3 toilets from anywhere in the house flush, stinky fumes would come out of the drain. My investigation tells me a working p trap was installed and there was no evidence of clog or blockage in the system. Stink is most probably the result of an inefficient vent system in the drains. More costly solution was to install another vent = $$$.I stumbled upon this product while researching solutions for my problem. Installation took less than 5 mins. Pop the drain, make sure drain pipe is clean, drop this device into the pipe and push to make sure the rubber fins provide a good seal around this device and the inside wall of the pipe. Ran the shower full blast for around 5 mins to see wether water pools on the floor which may indicate draining is slowed down. Surprisely, no change. So I filled up a bucket of water about half way and dumped everything into the shower floor while shower was still running. Water initially pooled in the floor but was gone in a few seconds. Yehey! There s no significant slowing of water draining! Before I installed this device, I read reviews that say draining slowed down to the point of water pooling on the floor while taking a shower. That was my biggest concern. Almost everybody was saying this product kept the stink out but had that issue of slow draining. For those having problems witn slow drain with this product, try pushing the device deeper into the drain. That will help build more water pressure between this device and the water on the floor. Also, it may help using a shower head that is one of those water efficient kind rated for 1.5 gallons per minute.Very happy to get rid of that annoying stink! 5Excellent fix for smelly shower drains I had a sewer gas smell coming up through the master bedroom shower drain in the second floor of the house. And yes, this shower does have a proper trap system. Bought this guy, problem solved. You do need to push it about 2 inched down into the drain pipe. This allows the water pressure on top of the trap to build up to allow the valves in the trap to allow more water to flow through. If you don't do this, you could have standing water in the shower pan.I have a few different brands and this one works the best. Well worth the money. 5Great quick fix I was pretty surprised by the cost of this thing - but if it works as advertised it's just what I needed. I cut off an extra vent to use as a floor drain for my HVAC system. I stuck this thing in a few inches down and so far so good. It lets the small condensate drip through without allowing any gas up. I can't imagine this being able to handle a sink or shower though, i think it would slow the drain down quite a bit. 5Works Great - Installs Easily This works very well. Installs incredibly easily - just push it down into the drain pipe. The rubber flexes to let it easily slide into the 2" drain pipe, but it seems to seal off the pipe perfectly. Another reviewer said he has to remove it and clean it every 2-3 weeks - that makes no sense... This is intended for a drain that gets infrequent use. (I put it in the drain on my laundry room floor that will not get water down it other than in an broken pipe incident or some other rare issue.) Don't use this in your main shower that gets used daily, it is not a drain cap or drain strainer. This is to prevent the sewer gasses from coming out of a drain, but in most plumbing there is a P-Trap that holds water and seals off the drain from sewer gasses so this is not necessary. I could see using this in a guest bathroom shower that only gets used once a month or something then the water in the P-Trap could evaporate between uses. But a shower with that infrequent use should not have issues with this getting "dirty" and needing cleaned. 5Stopped sewer smell but doesn't drain - don't waste your time 1 star because it stopped the smell but it drains SO SLOW. The first few times we showered it worked wonderfully, but then it began to take longer and longer to drain. We tried everything because it really helped with the sewer gas smell. We cleaned it after every shower!! After a month of 2 inches of standing water during a 10 minute shower and waiting 1-2 minutes for it to drain, we finally gave up and took it out for good. Unfortunately you'll waste your time and money on this product. I really wanted to love this. Time to look for another one with better reviews, 1used to create drain for lid of sump pump Used to create drain for lid of sump pump. The trap seal fits into a piece of 2" PVC pipe inserted into the bottom of a $6 "2" or 3" floor drain" The PVC pipe ideally is 6-12" in length and the trap seal is located towards the bottom of the PVC pipe. The sump pump is located at the lowest point in the house. I drilled a 3" hole into the lid of the sump pump lid but without a seal both air and bugs would enter the home. 5Drains properly IF you insert it 2" inside the pipe I came back this page intending to return the seal due to poor drainage. Thanks to the other reviewers here who suggested inserting the seal down into the pipe, I don't have to.With the drain flush to the pipe, my shower pan filled up practically to overflowing from a 10 minute shower. Pushing the seal just a couple of inches down into the pipe completely prevents backup and the shower drains perfectly fine. It has also done its job and eliminated the sewer smell.Note to manufacturer: a simple installation step of "insert seal 2 inches into drain pipe" would probably prevent most of your negative feedback. Knocking off a star for value as the item is a little pricey, but happy with the purchase. 4We had a lot of small mosquitos coming up from the drain and also a terrible smell from time to time so we decided to ... Prior to purchasing this item I had tried another brand that was significantly cheaper but was also very flimsy! This one was well worth the money. We had a lot of small mosquitos coming up from the drain and also a terrible smell from time to time so we decided to buy one of these and I have to say it is working very well in keeping both the critters and the smell out. However, there is a small smell of rubber for some reason , not sure if its normal or not. Also , please not that it drains pretty slow , but I can deal with slow drainage more than I can with the smell and the critters and its moderate slow not snail pace slow. 4
