Customer Reviews

Awesome tool!I was breaking down pallets by hand and removing the nails thinking that there has to be a better way. This tool, the Air Locker, is well worth the money. At 80 psi it was kicking nails out of 1x4s and 2x4s so hard they were ricocheting off of the floor and a wall before hitting the ceiling. I tried catching the nails with a 5 gallon bucket...that just created a more focused ricochet. Filled the bucket with water and soft foam in the bottom...got soaked with the splash back! Put a plastic bag over the bucket and it worked...for a while. A 13 gallon trashcan with a hole drilled through the lid was the best and safest way I found to catch the nails. Eye protection is a MUST! This little powerhouse gave me no issues, and completely drove out about 29 of every 30 nails I threw at it. You won't be disappointed! 5If you're struggling with the nails in barn lumber, just buy this thing. When I bought this I wasn't expecting too much. There are much, much more expensive options out there for an air nail punch and (as it goes with most tools) the more expensive, the better quality. When I do buy the cheaper tool I almost always regret it and end up buying the high end tool anyway. That's why this tool is so amazing. It performs exactly as described.I am a woodworker and my clients have been on a barn lumber kick for the last three or four years. We take down about 4 barns a year to use the lumber for their furniture projects and flooring. Some barns seem to be put together by morons as there can be up to 40 nails in a board so when I got a flooring job for 4500 sq feet last week the last thing I wanted to do is remove 40 nails a board by hand.I came across this type of tool by accident looking for set of nail pullers. I had never heard of these things and neither had any of my colleagues. I debating on it for a day of to and then pulled the trigger.I deal with all types of lumber with this barn wood including locust, hickory, osage orange, white oak and every other type of extremely hard domestic lumber and, for that reason, I was skeptical about this tool. Sure, it can do pallets, pine 2x4's, etc but can it handle some very dense wood. Man, it did and it did so well that I can say that I wouldn't want it any more powerful. In pine, poplar, chestnut, sycamore and other softer lumbers it will shoot the nail out quite a distance. In hard lumbers, it will shoot about 75% of the nail out. Wear eye protection. Seriously. For real. I can't stress this enough. And make sure to hold the board against the ground so the nails won't ricochet and end up in your neighbor's eye. 5best tool for denailingexcellent tool simple construction easy to repair good customer service this tool takes a lot of hard use an abuse this is the second one i have bought they save me many hours of labor and abuse on my body compared to doing by hand an hammer if you have a lot of nails to remove this is the tool for you especially if you reuse pallet wood this thing punches the nails right out for you pictures are of before an after what can be done with this tool 5It feels like it's a toyThis is a cheap, imported tool. It feels like it's a toy... however the one I got in the mail performed like a 1st class champ. I had a whole lot of reclaimed oak flooring with bostich L-cleats in them. You can't hammer them out because half the time they bend. I was looking at maybe one or two very frustrating days of taking nails out of boards - a bunch of boards. This thing shot through the whole pile in two hours. I'm quite certain that on arrival some of these leak, or have crapy o-rings or just don't work. That's the risk you take with a cheap ass tool. Had this thing broke half way through (which id did not do) I would have ordered another one right away because of the time it saves. It cost 40 bucks to save myself hours and hours of work. Go on Youtube and look at the guy who made a special jig for pounding nails out of flooring. By the time you're done making the jig this tool will have already knocked all the nails out. For 40 bucks it's totally worth it in my opinion. And if it doesn't work, you blew 40 bucks, which is real money but so it two days. 5Love it!I used this to sink about 700 nails on my older deck, as I'm about to sand and stain it. I tried a few nails with a hammer and it took way too much effort. This was effortless and FUN! Worked perfectly too.To avoid driving the nails too deep I just used a regulator attached to the last few feet of my hose. 175psi at tank, 60psi at tool.. 150ft hose so I didn't have to bring my tank around.Aim a few mm below your target, as it will recoil a bit, and scratch up above the tip. This should have a trigger guard. When not in use, relocating, or moving around.. disconnect it or drop the pressure if you have a regulator close by. This will, without a doubt, put holes in you. 5Right tool for the jobThe Air Locker AP700 does exactly what it is supposed to do, and does it very well: It efficiently, quietly, and accurately drives nails out of reclaimed wood. In an effort to reclaim a floor, I was able to effortless de-nail around 800 2" cleats per hour from 3/4" oak while keeping the wood excellent condition - an impossible task without this tool. Since it paid for itself after 20 sqft, I am very happy with the purchase. It is the same body as the Harbor Freight #69719 Central Pneumatic 18-awg 1/4" Crown Stapler, with a custom hammer and nose assembly to allow guided extraction of nails. If you've ever worked with HF tools this should give you an idea of the quality, and professional grade is an accurate description: all metal, bare bones, would survive almost any abuse as long as it's oiled. The hammer is hardened, and was only slightly deformed after ~2500 fastener ejections. Not industrial by any means, but there are no delicate safety mechanisms or brightly colored plastic pieces to fall off as found in consumer grade tools.Speaking of safety, some additional care is warranted as there is no pressure actuated safety mechanism. However, since there are no fasteners, I think the reduction of complexity and additional versatility is justified. Unless you jam it hard against your skin and fire (which could cause a serious puncture wound, for sure!), an accidental discharge will likely be harmless. Safety glasses are critical though - smooth-shank nails will go flying out with surprising (and amusing) velocity, enough so that at the end of my project there were a handful of 4" finishing nails stuck in the drywall around the room. There is very little kick when used on boards longer than 8", but small pieces are problematic and tend to become projectiles. The hammer extends about 3/8" from the nose whenever the trigger is depressed (even continuously) which makes inspection simple and allows the tool to countersink. As one reviewer noted, the depth is not readily adjustable, though I found that it was easy to control depth by how far down the shank the nose is positioned. For special purposes where a particular depth was required, you could grind down the hammer - replacements are ten bucks or so.After finishing the floor project, I have found some other uses for this tool:1. Flushing framing nails - will drive 3" framing nails about 1/4" per hit. When my 21 degree nailer muffs, this thing is much easier (and more accurate) than trying to get your hammer in there to finish the drive.2. Offset nailing - Nails that are impossible to drive any other way can be effectively driven with this tool using a sturdy pry bar to transfer the force of the hammer. Installing your standard two-nail blue single gang electrical box from the back side of a wall, for example, is impossible because the nails are angled forward - But using a Stanley WonderBar, propped against the nail head, and this hitting the WonderBar as close as possible, 2 minutes later, the job is done3. Punching holes - puts a neat, 1/8" hole in brittle materials. Need to cut a circle in cement board? Yes, you could buy and carry a masonry hole saw of every size, but that gets expensive very quickly. With this, trace the circle, and repeatedly punch around the line. The circle will fall right out with very little mess.Very satisfied, and would highly recommend the AP700 for anyone trying to reclaim hardwood flooring! 5Dynamite tool!Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I was demolishing a deck, and wanted to get the nails out of the 2-by PT dimensional lumber. Once I got good at using this, it was a breeze, and actually fun. Some nails, as long as 3 inches in 2-by lumber, shot out of the wood with great force--so be careful where it is aiming! Other nails, especially if very bent or rusted, took a few consecutive shots, and stayed in the wood once the tip was buried. Even then the nails were easily removed from the other side. I was using a large compressor, at about 120 psi, but the compressor hardly cycled. I am sure my little pancake compressor would have worked. I probably removed about 150 nails in two hours without a single failure. It helps if you use the nose piece to bend the nail a bit so it is in a straight line--again, easily done. I even used it on a few screws that had heads buried in the wood. It popped the screw head out of the wood so I could gain access. Didn't have any sparks or chipping, but wear eye protection, as always. 5and the Air Locker is still performing like it's brand new I decided to try this out on a barn demolition project before I pulled the trigger on a $500 version. I fully expected it to break quickly as I was punching nails out of 2x8 PT boards. I've now completed the demo, punched probably thousands of nails out of 2x8 boards, and the Air Locker is still performing like it's brand new.It does not typically punch the nails all the way out of the 2x8s but it gets them most of the way out so they're easily pulled from the other side. I couldn't be more happy with this product. 5Amazing, Reliable Time SaverAmazing time saver. My grandson and I just finished razing an old farm house in Northern Minnesota and we reclaimed ALL the wood. This product saved us SO MUCH time it is worth its weight in gold. I bought a backup since I thought at this price it will "crap out" before we were done. Never needed the backup unit.Further, simplicity is the key to good design and this product meets that test. I did have to remove the top of the cylinder (4 screws) to dislodge a very, very small "nail" that got wedged in the piston. Removed the top, dislodged the nail, and replaced the top in about 5 minutes and the unit just kept on banging hundreds more nails. Kudos to Air Locker on this design. 5Get those nails out of old pallets fast!Bought this for my boyfriend; he takes old wood pallets and rips them apart to use the reclaimed wood in beautiful furniture. I helped him pull nails from pallets - what a sucky job! He said this would quickly and easily push the nails out of pallets, and once he got a new air compressor the other day, he couldn't wait to try this out. It worked fantastic, and this was such a great price. Incredibly pleased with this purchase that does exactly what we wanted it to. 5
