Epic fail - now returning my 4th, yes 4th, All-Clad Waffle MakerUneven browning, green lights that don't function, inability to heat up or retain heat; this appliance has it all. Oh, it is easy to clean all right. Now if it could just cook and brown a waffle. Because I purchased this on Amazon, All-Clad will not refund my money, even though they have sent me three replacements. That makes 4 waffle makers in all that I have returned over the past 3 months. Don't buy from Amazon, number one. Secondly, don't buy from All-Clad! 1Worth the Extra $$In the last 5 years I have gone though three waffle makers. None of them came even close to the quality of this waffle maker. Most recently, I had a Cuisinart model and after a year everything started to stick to it no matter what I did. This one cooks evenly, makes a nice crispy, chewy waffle, and has a wide range of setting so you can be more accurate with the level of doneness you like. Also, the beeping when the waffle is done is really nice for when you step away for a moment to tend to something else. I've made three of the four or five recipes that came with this waffle maker, and they are all wonderful. This is worth spending the extra money on for sure. 5Feels like a professional, restaurant-grade waffle ironUPDATE: Still love it. Very robust, and despite my efforts, I have not been able to break it. Have made waffles for breakfast almost every day for a couple months now, and it's simply perfect. One word of caution... make certain it has almost completely stopped steaming before attempting to open, or you may pull the waffle apart (ask me know I know this). Otherwise, love it... may buy another just because.Used it for the first time today. Let it heat up for a bit to burn off the manufacturing residue, then cool, wipe it down with a damp cloth, then heat it back up for cooking. Used Kodiak Waffle Mix, exactly as directed (including 1 tbs safflower oil), and made the best waffles we've ever had. This is a heavy unit, all metal, and extremely well made. It won't slide around the counter, and it's well balanced and easy to open. Our thanks to the manufacturer, as we think this will last a lifetime. Going to buy one for our son and one for a parent. We've had other waffle makers, and they all fall apart after about 15-20 uses. Not this unit. Could easily be an heirloom piece. Thank you!!! 5One StarOnly cooked one side of the waffle. 1Consistent results -- and fast tooI don't have much basis for comparison. My only other waffle maker cost $20, marked down to $10. It took a long time to heat up, the waffles were unevenly cooked, and there was no indicator to show that the waffles were ready -- you were supposed to watch to see that there was no steam coming out. In spite of these limitations, we decided we liked waffles enough, and made them often enough, to justify the extra expense of the All-Clad. This waffle maker overcomes the primary deficiencies of the first machine. It heats up quickly, makes waffles that are evenly cooked on both sides, and uniformly cooked across the surface. The waffles cook quickly, and there is a bell (or something) that rings when the waffle is ready. There is a dial that can be set to sound the alert based on your preference for lighter or darker. It has been completely reliable over about 8 months of moderate use.I have no idea what the inner workings are like, but the waffle iron is heavy and feels extremely solid. It has been easy to clean, with the usual caveats that it can't be immersed and I presume that eventually the non-stick coating will wear off.From my viewpoint there are two deficiencies, both fairly minor The alert to say that the waffles are ready is high pitched and soft. Since generally develop a high frequency hearing loss with age, many of us have to devote full attention to the waffle maker and can't have a radio in the background or carry on a conversation -- we have to listen for thge alarm. Also, although the waffle maker is designed so that the cord can be wound around the base during storage, there is no clip for the cord, so it may be necessary to resort to a twist closure or rubber band.Other than a waffle maker with a larger surface, or one of the waffle makers that can make two waffles at the same time, I suspect this is about as good as it gets. 5I love products that will last decadesI love products that will last decades. I've had this one for years now and highly recommend it. I have found that if you leave it open too long between waffles that the bottom cooks faster / retains more heat. 5Good product that tempature can be adjusted to cook waffles to your individual liking!Used this waffle maker a couple of times and all other things aside it does exactly what it is suspose to do, cook a good waffle. Heat selector knob let's the waffles to be cooked to your preferance, just chose your level of doneness. Lights and alarm let you know when it is correct temperature for your waffle.Only drawback is exterior stainless cover does not seem finished correctly. This is reason for 4 stars. 4Great traditional Waffle MakerAll Clad makes great waffle makers. Period. The dough does not stick, they heat up rapidly and when the signal says they are done, you can count on the waffle being done. This is for traditional, that is without such deep pockets, as a Belgian waffle maker - All Clad makes those too if that is what you are interested in. The multiple settings for heat and "doneness" make it easy to get a waffle cooked the way you like it. Many other waffle makers we have used signal the waffle is done, and then when you lift the lid, the waffle separates. Not with All Clad. If you want more traditional waffles, it makes about a 7" waffle, this is a great choice. The only downside is that if you are making for a group, someone will be cooking for awhile. 5We bought this because of an article in Good Housekeeping singing it's praisesWe bought this because of an article in Good Housekeeping singing it's praises. It is beautiful and well made but......so far every waffle I have cooked in it comes out unevenly cooked and unevenly browned. I have been through 3 different recipes of waffles. 1Returned, replaced, returned.Only cooked one side, See pic, same waffle. Update: Took a chance and had it replaced just in case I got a lemon, same problem only 1 side browned. Also might mention the handle does not stay cool. It gets hot by the end of cooking a batch of waffles (Marion Cunninghams recipe, maybe 4-6 cups of batter?). Had to return the Cuisinart for the same issue. Maybe moving on to the Breville? My 5 year old chef's choice is giving up the ghost too only browning 1 side well. 1
