Great product easy the install American Made ! Was very easy to install the directions were well thought out, that makes it much less stressful when taking on a plumbing task, wish all my plumbing jobs were this easy.My well water is not that great like 142 ppm, after the going through the system it's like 5-7 ppm, going to have the well water tested again and see how this works for us, for now we have been drinking the water and it's just as good as the RO water I was buying for $6.99 @5gals 2-3 ta week.I also got the ice maker refrigerator attachment so the water will get chilled and filtered again before drinking.I am thinking now about a whole house unit as well since this seems like a good American Company with a great product, who says American can't make great stuff! 5Excellent unit; poor installation instructions. Non-sponsored review. Update 2019 July: Purchased in 4/2017. Still working rock solid after 2+ years of use. Still, it filters water as mentioned below.Original review: My faucet (city) water is at 40 ppm. With this RO system, I am getting 2-3 ppm. FYI, distilled water should be at zero ppm. My city water is at around 40 psi; even with this pressure, the RO system seems to be working well. Included instructions and photos are for a separate model with an addendum for this model. I highly recommend APEC to develop installation instructions for this model. One star off for poor instructions. Unlike many reviewers, I am not getting hot water out of the RO system. However, in the NorthWest, environmental temperature is cooler a year around. Therefore, our faucet water is typically cold. While RO water is at room temperature.Another test of water filtration is your coffee pot. Incidentally, our coffee pot was replaced at the same time when I installed this filter. My coffee maker and coffee pot have been pristine clean without evidence of mineral deposits.Overall, the unit, filters, and plastic parts seem well made and of high-quality material. Included tubes are sufficiently long enough for easy filter replacement. This is an unbiased non-sponsored review. 4Need documentation/illustration for UV kit installation Bought the system with UV light. When reviewing the hose connections, the UV kit isn't included or mentioned. There looks like an extra connection as part of the UV unit which has a flimsy white plug in it. Don't know if I'm supposed to run a tube from this extra connection or not. No installation manual for the UV add-on on the APEC site nor is it mentioned in the documentation I received. Otherwise, I've figured out where other lines go--very frustrating APEC! There is a page for the manual for the UV kit on your website, but there is no .PDF available. Quite frustrating! 2EXCELLENT RO SYSTEM I had the system installed almost a month now. Installation was super easy as the instructions/diagrams were easy to follow. I agree with other purchasers that a flow switch could have been installed to activate the UV light only when the water is flowing. To APEC's credit they have recommended a solution to obviate this problem of initially getting warm water, however I have no problem with the way it works as set up. The unit works extremely well and I would strongly recommend this unit for home use. I am also very pleased with the after sales support provided by APEC based on my interaction so far. 5Good system, but REALLY needs a UV flow switch!!! Updated!!! Had the system for 5 months now. Been a great system, installation was easy, with the exception of no provisions for newer homes using PEX plumbing, had to spend $50 in fittings and whatnot to get things routed correctly. If you've got standard valves under your sink would have been a breeze!The one regret with going with this system that I get mad about every time I pour 2 consecutive glasses of water is that the first glass is at room temperature and the 2nd glass is so hot from the UV light constantly being on that it's almost not drinkable! I took temp readings and it's a staggering 16 degree difference!! If APEC had spent the additional time to add a flow switch to only activate the UV light when the water was in use this would not be s problem. I contacted APEC and the first solution I was reccomended was to simply pour it out!!!?!? Really? I am paying for a "top of the line" system and paying for the use of the filter life and I'm going to run it down the drain? I asked if they sold a flow switch I could install on the system and they said they did not offer any with a switch, this is where I regret not going with the ispring unit I was on the fence about. The 2nd solution I was offered was a replacement UV light as well as the power supply, I accepted them, replaced them, and with no surprise, I was left with the same results. I've simply accepted the fact that I have to drink hot water.It's a shame, as the quality of the water is fantastic and sure beats the heck out of the faucet mounted Brita water filter I had been using for over 10 years! If I had bought this a long time ago it would have paid for itself with how much I'm saving on filter replacements!Overall, good system, just wish that APEC would have tested the product themselves and found this flaw. Please correct this APEC, I really want to love this system 100%!!!**UPDATE 8/22/15**After posting my review regarding the hot water, Benson from APEC contacted me to further address the issue. He sent me instructions on how to simply re-route the water lines on my stem to put the UV light at the entrance to the filtration system instead of at the output to the faucet. This means that the hot water generated in the UV chamber now has a good amount of time to cool as it makes its way through the filter stages and into the holding tank, instead of sitting right at the point of use. Such a simple solution!!!! I no longer have hot water at the faucet! He even sent me a complementary set of filters to replace at the same time. I have attached the instructions to re-route the feed line as he instructed me in case anyone else would like to perform this change on their system. I asked Benson if this was going to be a revision to the system for future customers, he wasn't able to answer that, but I stressed to him that I think it should be!Hope this helps anyone else, as this is s really good system and provides excellent quality water.Thank you APEC for the great service! 5Quality product, low tds, good water pressure and highly recommended Now this is what i call a high quality and functional product. I bought an aquasana right before i purchased this RO system and i had a TDS meter and the filtration system took the water quality from 280 to 270 ppm. I returned it and after researching and reading the reviews i decided to go with APEC. The product shipped quick and it had very good installation guide which i followed step by step and i was up and running in about 1.5 hours including shutting down my water, installing the fittings and drilling and installing the drain portion and the whole nine yards of putting the product together. I turned on the water following the directions and before even flushing the first tank down my meter was reading 35 ppm and dropping as the water ran. At the end of the flushing i was getting 17 ppm which is better than the bottled water i had which was at around 24 ppm. This is a great system and works like a charm with a yearly maintenance cost of about $100. You can't beat it. bottled water was costing us way too much and it comes with the dioxin issues and bpa scares of cheap recycled plastic. Go with this system and you will be happy. If you want to save some money buy the same system minus the UV treatment stage. Water companies are currently treating the water with UV anyways but i had kids so i wanted to double redundancy. But it was for an extra $100. The same 5 stage system is for $199 versus this one for $299. Highly highly highly recommended. I couldn't have picked a better RO system. 5Plastic smell/ taste I'm a fan of the company. I started out with a counter top model and upgraded to this one. Installation is okay. If you have a basic understanding of sink plumbing it should not be too difficult. The only issue I have encountered is if you don't use the system for a day or two, the UV chamber heats up and causes the water to have a plastic smell/ taste. I originally thought I had contamination so bleached the system and installed all new filters. Same thing happened. I have disconnected the UV lamp and have not had the issue come back. The TDS of the water did not change with the plastic smell, but it still concerns me that I and my family were exposed to it, as that chamber is at the end of the process and who knows exactly what the TDS meter picks up or not. I'm not a chemist to know if that is a legitimate concern or not. I will update more when I hear back from APEC about the issue... and maybe after I talk to a chemist. 3Effective and easy to install. A very nice system. I mounted it on the wall of the garage, and ran the hoses through the wall to the sink. It works very nicely. Even with the unusual placement, it was only half a day to install. TDS went from 380 to 3 or 4. (TDS testers cost $15. Go buy one.) The install instructions were very clear, with color-coded parts and well-labeled photographs. You just need a drill and a couple screwdrivers for your basic install. Because of the pressurized tank, we can fill a gallon bottle in a minute or so, so there's no waiting around for a trickle of RO water.We had an older filter that started leaking more often than it was worth fixing. This seems to do a much better job and will be easier to work on (filter change etc) in the new location. Plus, it's RO and not just filtering. 5Great instructions Works very well, great directions too. I do wish the UV light didn't heat up the water quite as much as it does. It really makes the water very warm. I noticed another buyer has instructions from APEC to plumb the UV light to precede all the filters. This eliminates the warm water problem. Having the UV filter first IMO, is the way it should be plumbed. This eliminates the warm water problem and keeps the filters from being contaminated with any bacteria. When I change the filters, I will defiantly change the plumbing over on the UV filter. 4A Happy Ending I am a clean water fanatic. I am also a vegan, a Yogic lifestyle coach, and a long-time advocate for healthy living. We recently purchased a new home and I took several months to explore and investigate water filtration systems. This is a good one.I located the installation videos on You Tube, though the videos and the instruction booklet that was shipped with our product DID NOT specifically identify our UV model. We were easily able to figure out how the UV purifying light fit into the process.We installed the filters under the sink and the holding tank below in our basement. Yes, there was a lot of drilling involved to feed lines, but as far as the product itself went, the directions were clear and accurate. Installation was relatively easy.The results: our tap water tested 187ppm; the bottled water we were drinking tested 36ppm; the APEC filtered water tested 17ppm!!!!!Yes, the water tastes good and I have confidence that it is good. Clearly no more hauling 5-gallon jugs to and from the supermarket is a big lifestyle improvement. And the water is flowing in our kitchen. 5
