Customer Reviews

Terrific value, I was impressed! I'm so impressed with this furniture. When I received the boxes from Amazon, I was nervous, as the Amazon boxes were trashed. Inside, the manufacturer's box was fine though. Everything was so well wrapped and protected. Each piece was cushioned with styrofoam. This comes from Indonesia, yet the instructions were clear and easy to understand. The hardware was bagged and labeled, with 1 extra piece for everything except the handle for the drawer. The only tool needed was a Phillips screwdriver. The holes are pre-drilled, with cam locks and dowels. Once assembled, the nightstand has heft; I'm not worried that it will fall apart or tip over. I'm an Amazon shopping junkie; with free shipping and the great price point, this is one of my best buys from Amazon. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great deal! 5Higher quality and heavier than expected - a few Assembly tips! I needed a basic inexpensive nightstand for the guest bedroom, and the slide out shelf plus the very reasonable price for this one convinced me. I was expecting the 'usual' fiberboard furniture for this price, so I was stunned at the weight of the box when it arrived. What?! Why does a small nightstand weigh this much? This is mostly WOOD. Cool!First, the 'white' version is not white. This color is what most people consider Almond, with a brown/grey tint. It's not Ivory with a yellow tint, and it's not Off-White with a grey tint. It's Almond. Given all the comments about the color, I expected that and was fine with it.It's not hard to put together, but given that there's well over a dozen pieces, and 14 types of fasteners, I took my time assembling (an hour and a half). And STILL managed to make mistakes. I put the back panel screw side facing the front, instead outwards facing the wall. It's intuitive to put the screws on the INSIDE of furniture and not facing OUT, and judging by the comments about screw covers, others did the same thing.Maybe this caused the wobble I ended up with, but I'm not taking it all apart and rebuilding it again immediately. I had to shim the front left leg with a 1/2" piece of cardboard for the nightstand to sit level. Not as attractive as it could have been, and that's why the missing star. Everything was tightened, I missed no holes, and it's very solid, so the wobble is either poor hole drilling or my putting the back panel on backwards, right now, I don't know. But the fact that from other reviews, I'm not the only one who made the mistake, the directions are simply not clear enough about this. One simple sentence that says 'back screw holes should face outward' would have solved this for everyone. This is definitely a quality piece of furniture when done. I would buy it again in a heartbeat, despite the wobble, especially at the discounted price (probably because of the color). Also, it's very fun to put together, like a puzzle. There are a few areas that require some strength (screwing in the first set of screws using a screwdriver), another that requires some flexibility (reaching the screws in the far back when screwing the top piece in), and the bottom portions uses bolts that require an included small allen wrench... why not just use a screw that takes a phillips head? It took much longer to use the bolts because they are butted to the bottom and you had to keep resetting the allen wrench. Minor annoyance, but still worth mentioning. So Tips:1. Lay out all 14 packages of hardware before you start, and make sure you know which is which and none are missing. I'm so glad I did this, as some look really similar and it's easy to use the wrong screws thinking they are all you have.2. Figure out how the locking nuts work, and do not exert a lot of pressure getting them in. I did not have one fully seated correctly on the very first piece, and forcing it split the right rear top panel a hair. It is not visible, but could have been avoided if I had understood how they properly worked before doing it. If I had to do it again, I'd practice using the locking nuts on one piece before moving forward with assembly. I HAVE worked with locking nuts before, but forgot because it's been a while.3. When putting on the back pieces, make sure the screw holes face OUTWARD. It IS clear in the diagram, but most people want a smooth outside finish, so either figure it doesn't matter, or think the diagram is drawn to be 'see through', so it's hard to tell. Again, this may account for my slight wobble.4. On the bottom piece, I put the dowels in on the wrong side, they go on the smooth side. My husband had to pull the dowels out again with pliers, because I couldn't get them back out. So on the very bottom, put the dowels in on the smooth side to begin with. That's basically it. It wasn't hard, just a bit tricky, and despite how slowly and carefully I assembled, I still made mistakes. Other than the wobbling leg, it's a really solid and lovely table, exactly the size I needed. Hope this helps! 4Love My Nightstand! Love my new nightstand! So...here's my review! First of all the unit is not a bright white, it's more of an Antique White. It arrived all in pieces and I dreaded having to put it together HOWEVER it was very well packed and each piece was marked A B C and so on. Even the hardware was individual packed in little baggies and clearly identified as per the instructions. Huge kudos to the manufacturer for doing this. Made it much easier to assemble. Over all it took me two hours to put together, and that's only because my husband kept interrupting me lol. The unit is fairly heavy indicating that it's wood and not particle board. There are however a few pieces that aren't real wood but those are not seen. For me it's the perfect height. I decided it was worth it to buy the matching unit for my husbands side of the bed. Also the slide out tray happens to be extremely useful. I didn't think it would be but it is. Ideal for your water, phone, coffee cup etc. I'm actually thinking about maybe adding a like a verse or some sort of border on the black part of the pull out tray. The drawer itself is not real deep but my iPad, my medications be a few other items fit nicely. Anyway, I hope this review helps you make a decision, it took me a week to figure out which nightstand I wanted and I'm thrilled that I picked this one over all the other ones! 5Good Value for the Price We ordered two of these nightstands in white and are pleased with the finished result. They are sturdy once assembled and provide good storage for small pieces of furniture. These nightstands are made in Thailand.PACKAGING IS IMPRESSIVE. Each piece is cushion wrapped and taped, with foam separating the pieces and protecting all sides of the box.ASSEMBLY WAS NOT DIFFICULT. It took us about 10 minutes to unpack and sort the pieces and hardware. The hardware is presorted by type and size and placed in individually labeled bags. VERY NICE-no time wasted trying to sort through hardware to find the right piece. They even included extras of most of the hardware needed. The instruction sheet includes simple, logically written directions along with clear illustrations of each step. There are 10 pieces to assemble for the nightstand frame and 4 additional pieces for the drawer. It took us about 40 minutes to actually assemble the second nightstand. All holes lined up correctly for the hardware.THE INSIDE DIMENSIONS OF THE DRAWER are 12 3/4" long, 9 3/4" wide and 2" deep.THE MATERIALS USED TO MAKE THE NIGHTSTAND ARE AS FOLLOWS:1. WOOD (unknown type, but doesn't appear to be a hardwood) is used for the drawer frame, frame pieces, top, bottom and legs.2. MASONITE for the back panels and drawer bottom.3. MDF or particle board (can't tell which with the painted finish), approximately 5/8" thick, for side panels.4. PAINT (on our white nightstand), NOT LAMINATE. There is no laminate on any of the pieces.FIT AND FINISH are average for this type of furniture. There were a few small flaws in the paint finish such as a small chip, a couple of very small gouges, and a small area where the paint "ran". These were in areas that are not noticeable or not seen. They could be touched up with white paint but they were minor enough that we didn't feel the need. The paint covered very well and evenly. The finish on the pull-out tray appears to be just black paint, so if you are placing a drink on it, you will need to use a coaster or something moisture resistant under it. Some of the pieces weren't as precisely cut as we would have liked, leaving small gaps where some of the pieces meet. These gaps probably wouldn't be noticed by someone else at first glance and don't affect the appearance drastically, but were a slight disappointment.CARE INSTRUCTIONS from the enclosed instruction sheet are:NEVER use glass cleaner on finished furniture, never allow liquids to remain on furniture, do not use commercial waxes or polishes, do not place hot objects (including drinks) on surface and do not use rubber based place mats.To clean, use a soft cloth moistened in lemon oil polish or lukewarm soap and water, then buff with a dry, clean cloth. If you are looking for a flawless piece of furniture, please look at a higher price point. If you want an attractive, affordable and useful nightstand and don't mind a few minor imperfections that probably won't be noticed, this is a good buy.UPDATE JANUARY 2013: I purchased the nightstands in October 2012 at a cost of $130 each and they were a real bargain. The current price is now $171. Still love these nightstands, but wanted others to be aware of the price I paid when I said "Good Value". 4An excellent quality nightstand An excellent quality nightstand. I'm very pleased with the final product, its durability, appearance, and ease of assembly. First, the packaging. It's sealed up pretty good, and the pieces are jammed in this box so methodical, I couldn't see the possibly of repacking it if it's damaged or missing pieces. Of the assembly, taking it out of the box was the most time consuming part. To put it together, you'll need a phillips screwdriver. The parts are all labeled and the screws, dowels, etc are in separate labeled baggies. Instructions are easy enough to follow, I had no issues getting it together. The amount of screws and dowels to put this nightstand together made me feel like it'd be a durable piece of furniture, and once it was assembled it was easy to confirm this. It's got a solid weight to it. The craftsmanship is above what I would expect from box furniture. To me, this product feels likes it's between your typical box furniture and a furniture store quality piece, siding closer to furniture store. In fact, I'd be willing to bet 9 out of 10 people that saw this would assume you bought it from a nice furniture store. The finish is painted- and very well done. My nightstand didn't have any noticeable cosmetic deficiencies- paint lines, scuffs, etc. The back piece is a solid composite type sheet, not the junk cardboard I'm used to seeing, and I'd consider this the lowest quality part of the entire nightstand. The only "issue" I would say I had with this was the drawer. The assembly had me use screws that didn't torque up nice and tight; it almost felt like the pre-drilled holes were a little too large, so I'm slightly worried it may fall apart. I pulled on the edges to see if there was any play to it, but it felt solid, so I have no reason to be concerned. All in all, I would highly recommend this piece of furniture! One last note; the color. This is not a pure white- its more like an antique white. If you're looking for white, white, or artic white, or pure white, whatever you want to call a TRUE white, this is not it, its closer to an off white or antique white. For me this worked perfectly, but the description should probably be updated to give buyers a more accurate description of its shade of white. 5Not awesome, not bad These aren't bad. I'm sure everyone who is considering buying this night stand has read the Thailand vs Indonesia review. But that was few years ago and at this point they all come from Indonesia and from what it sounds like these aren't as high of quality. The sides are made of particle board and the frame is a very soft wood. I paid $107 and at that price they're good enough. It's probably expecting allot to get solid wood for around 100 bucks these days. I bought two and didn't have any issues assembling them. When finished they feel sturdy and look good. 3easy to follow I needed a certain size nightstand (smaller) to accompany my Stickley mission bedroom furniture set. The nightstand came within one day / Amazon prime - and I assembled it in less than an hour and a half. The instructions were clear, easy to follow. Excellent quality - 3-4 times less than other options I looked at several furniture stores. I love it!! I would highly, highly recommend this product! 5Be careful which version you get... I ordered this product on Amazon, with a quantity of 2, one for each side of our bed. When the delivery came, there was only one nightstand. I chatted with customer service, and while they couldn't explain why I got only one, they assured me that they would send the second one. No problem, I'd just wait to put them together when I got the second one.On the day the second one was to arrive, I unpacked the first one and laid it out to prepare for putting it together, as my son and I would put one each together at the same time. The first one I laid out was very good quality real wood. Nice construction.Later that day, I received the second nightstand, when I opened it, I took out one or two pieces, and something seemed wrong. I compared the pieces to the corresponding ones from the first nightstand, and the quality was significantly worse. It was solid wood in one vs. cheaper fiberboard in the other. Strange. I compared the two packages, and one was made in Thailand (the good one), while the other (cheap one) was made in Indonesia. They had the same product description, same model number, even the same UPC. but the good one was significantly heavier (a good ten to twelve lbs) than the cheap one.Obviously at some point, Home Styles felt that it was too expensive to make this product with good materials in Thailand, and decided rather to make them with cheap materials in Indonesia.Amazon customer service did their level best to get me a good replacement, but the next one they sent was also the cheap Indonesian version. I even tried to order from two other online retailers, and got cheap versions from them as well. All of them got returned without my even opening the box.It looks possible that I may have received the last high quality version of this product available on the internet. So I will make due with one good nightstand. The rating I gave would have been lower, if I hadn't received the good version, and higher had I not received several cheap versions. The rating doesn't in any way reflect on Amazon, as they can only send out the products their manufacturers provide. This is a Home Styles failure. If any of you order this and get the Thailand version, please respond to this review, because I would love to get one more. 2Good product, but it's not white As other reviewers have noted, this is a fine piece of furniture, particularly at this modest price point. It arrived well packaged (undamaged in transport), had no discernible chemical odor/fumes, and was fairly easy to assemble. A few wood dowel and screw holes were not perfectly aligned -- nothing I couldn't resolve with a little creative jostling of the pieces I was trying to join. The stand is pretty sturdy, and a little bit better quality than I was expecting for the price. My main (only?) criticism is that this item is labeled as being "white," but it is not -- it is slightly off-white or cream colored. I tried to use the Q&A provided in the Amazon review to determine the color; a previous user had asked about this. At the time of my purchase (July 2014), there were 3 answers saying it was "white" or "white-white" (none with "votes" up or down), and 1 response saying "off white" (with 2 up "votes"). I believed the majority of answers instead of the "votes," which I now regret. I wanted a white piece to match the room decor and some other white-white pieces, and am disappointed at the misleading description. I'd return it, except there's no way I'd ever be able to get the pieces back in the box in the original, VERY space-efficient manner.Assembly note: Pay very close attention to the installation diagrams. I didn't realize until too late that I'd assembled the back's upper and lower support rails backwards, that is, with the cam bolts facing the interior of the unit instead of the exterior. Not sure the diagram was clear enough on this point, but I had the furniture almost completely done by the time I realized my error. Fortunately, it still came together fine, and I figure that objects placed in the lower cubby will hide the bolts, anyway. 4Exactly what I wanted! So impressed with this nightstand! I bought one at first just to be sure I liked it, and I loved it! Extremely easy to assemble, sturdy, affordable and very attractive. The ivory color is perfect in my room with my other furniture. I love the little tray you can pull out (I use it to put my tablet on it to watch Netflix before bed). Immediately ordered a second one for the other side of my bed. Not extremely large so if you're looking to store a lot of items in/on it, probably not for you but it's perfect for a few decor items and I can put random items in the drawers (tv remote, lip balm, etc.) 5
