Customer Reviews

Careful, Not Everything Is As It Seems...Initially, this item was described as (similar to the commercial office organizers) which have a tendency to be made out of hard plastic and have hard plastic or particle board shelving. Unfortunately, when I received mine I was quite shocked when it arrived in a flat contained box. The item is made of thick cardboard and must be erected. The shelves to do not fit exactly right and required some slicing and fitting to get them just right. Don't bend the shelves too much or else they won't hold up in their intended slots. Nevertheless, this wasn't meant to be placed in an office, but rather on the top shelf of a closet to keep personal files and letters. So, the thing isn't pretty, but that's the least of my problems. it does what it is intended to do, hold stacks of folders and papers. 3SturdyI'm in college and I wanted something that I could separate my classes, but also have easy access to them and have it look nice. This is made out of thick cardboard and the black one does have small white pinstripes going down it. At first when I ordered it, I don't think I fully read it and I don't think I would have bought it had I known, but it really does hold up.When it came in, I put it together, which was very easy. When putting it together, follow the directions and do not rush. Take a minute if you're getting frustrated or confused. It isn't hard to put together, but it does take a little patients. After I got it all assembled, it didn't seem like it could ever hold papers or anything heavier than a one subject notebook.I was very wrong. I have had a 800 page textbook currently sitting on top of it, and it is perfectly fine and sturdy.Regular sheets of paper fit inside of it and some textbooks/workbooks.It is very sturdy and fits everything perfectly. 5Works Good! This paper holder works great and is bigger than I expected. 5The box it arrived in was better quality.Do not purchase. This item is folded so tightly around itself and bound together during manufacture packaging that the cardboard has permanently been crushed and will not take a flat shape across the top and bottom. Their stock picture does not show it, but the item is folded right across the center of the black top along the white dividing center support. That has conveniently been edited out for their picture but prevents it from having any structure or support. The cardboard itself is poorly printed with faded ink. Very disappointed. The Amazon box it came in put it to shame! That box was sturdy, well printed and held its shape. 1Not as good as it looks! Please READ before you buy.It is made of cardboard! Looks GREAT on the photo of the listing.I almost returned it but, the return is not worth it, due to the cost of it.The price is good but you will be paying $20 for cartdboard. In addition to being cardboard it came with a rip on one side of it.Yes it rips, it is not wood it is cardboard...did I mention that?No instructions that you can see while unpacking, so we took longer than we should have, to assemble only to realize while assembling that the instructions are on one of the sides of the unit. The three black plastic edges you see on the front of the shelves work well but they should have included five not three. The top and the bottom could use one.We will NOT be buying another as we need 2-3 more and SO GLAD we only bought one! 1Product is Cheaply constructed and with poor instructions. Took what used to be a great product and ruined it.I am very disappointed in this product. It was to replace an old one that had lasted for years. This one didn't last through the assembly process. The pieces didn't fold properly and show signs of ripping so the decorate box is marred. On top of that the plastic was stuck to the side with glue and the glue when gently removed removed the stripes. (Lots of appeal there.) The plastic pieces that re to make the product look finished broke with little or no effort as they were being gently attached to the product. See the pictures below. The products looks like it would have a nice finish, but it does not.Although pictures on the side of the product, it was not clear what parts to fold first. All in all, very disappointed. 1Sturdy Little Paper OrganizerSurprisingly, this is a sturdy little paper organizer. It doesn t seem to bow in the middle, even with additional paper products stacked on top of it. The directions weren t difficult to understand and it was fairly easy to assemble. When putting it together, take your time making the folds. I d say one could mistakenly bend it in areas that shouldn t be bent trying to make the necessary folds. I bent the one side manhandling it and now it s slightly bowed in that one area. We live and we learn, right? Now, I pass on the wisdom. :)I bought the pinstripe pattern. It s okay. If this wasn t sitting in the corner, mostly hidden, I would be disappointed with the quality of the pattern. The pinstripes itself is fine. The color isn t so hot. It definitely looks better in the pictures shown on Amazon. The black needs to be richer, darker. This black was more of a washed out black or a dark gray. But, this is just my opinion. I like a lot of contrast.Overall, it s a good product. I would recommend it. 4Works For What I NeedI'd definitely give this 3 1/2 to 4 stars as it serves the purposes I need it to, which is for holding various reports at work. I used to have about seven plastic folders scrunched together above my desk to hold all my reports in, but I wanted something that took up less room, looked nice (or business oriented), and still held a fair amount of paper. And the Fellowes Bankers Box worked perfectly for my needs.I already knew before buying this that it is made up of pure cardboard. And while some people rate this as heavy duty cardboard, and some say it's lightweight, it's basically the same consistency as a normal box you'd get in the mail from ordering something. Strong enough to hold things, but it is cardboard just the same. I was very excited when I got this in, and immediately started putting it together, and I swear I can seriously not be the only person who couldn't figure out how to close the back of this. I got so frustrated I took out some craft duct tape in a nice blue color and attacked the back until I had a nice seal. And this comes from someone who is used to putting together large banker boxes from the same company. I don't know what went wrong there, but I will say duct tape works nicely, and since my letter sorter is situated with it's back to a wall no one can see it. As for putting the rest of it together that was a breeze! Simply fold the inside inserts in half, make sure the side with the majority of white is facing up, push up/down the side areas, and slide it in on the bottom. Do that with the next two inserts, and your ready to do the same thing (folding in half and folding the up/down tabs in the right direction), to the middle insert. I did have to work this part in to make it fit, but it still wasn't that difficult. I folded the sides of the actual box inward on all sides, then attached the plastic bars to the inserts, and that was it!My box is done, and it looks pretty good. Not fantastic as you can totally tell it's cardboard, but it still looks decent, and, again, serves my purpose. It does have eight compartments, and it does come with a small thing of labels to write on and stick on the plastic bars. I choose to print normal size labels, and cut them to fit onto the bar, which just looked more professional to me, especially since my hand writing sucks. As for how much paper this can hold...it holds a pretty good amount! I managed to put a ream of paper in the bottom area as that totally would have weighed it down, and quite possibly broken it, but I have thick reports in the other's about thirty pages, and that's literally nothing to what it can hold! So if you are in the market for a sorter or something to help keep you organized, then I do totally recommend it! 4Works exactly as I wanted it to.Assembling this was as difficult as "ok, the picture says to fold this out and then put it in there." Not too difficult, but I often can assemble things without the instructions so if you're struggling, just be sure you look at the pictures on the bottom of the box carefully. The assembly is sturdy and is doing the job I wanted it to do. It wasn't horribly clear to me from the description (maybe I lack some reading skills) that this is literally cardboard, with 3 plastic strips that help lock it in place. I thought the whole thing was plastic. That said, several people in the questions were asking if this would hold textbooks. My answer would be a general no, though it all has to do with the weight of them - if you're expecting to put a 500-1000 page tome of history on here, it's going to squash it. But lighter books would probably be fine - just build from the bottom up.I did wind up putting several other supplies on top of this, including a desk caddy that is metal mesh (and therefore not HEAVY but has some weight to it) and it is not bowing or buckling. I mostly wanted this to give me some vertical storage of various papers that I keep on my desk for crafting. I doubt it could hold full reams of paper without having weight issues, though, but I can keep a handfull of sheets of various materials in here comfortably and within reach. Overall, the product was exactly what I wanted. 5Looks sturdy and will probably work for my needs. However, the instructions... Just received this today. Looks pretty sturdy. I'll re-evaluate later. The main reason I'm posting this review now is to rant. Why are these things always an IQ test to put together? The "instructions" only showthe flaps on the bottom being folded inwards. I ALREADY KNOW they should all fold inwards, but it would have been extremely helpful if they'd put in little numbers to show you the sequence of folds. After some trial and error and bending things the wrong way I figured it out.OK I'm over it now. I made a video to show you how to do it if you're having trouble. 5
