Doesn't sharpen to a sharp pointI have had this pencil sharpener for a year and a half. The good news is that it still works and we are still using it. The bad news is that after a couple of months it quit sharpening pencils to their sharpest point. It will sharpen, but at its best the pencils are still somewhat dull. We have continued to use it. However, when we want a pencil to be super sharp, we use a manual hand-held pencil sharpener. I intend to replace this at some point with (hopefully) a better model. 3Great to sharpen 6 sizes of pencils to nubsI m sure this has some value to someone, but not me! First of all it is not very quiet, probably because it is so powerful. In fact, too powerful! It does not stop once the pencil is sharp- it will just keep grinding the wood down until you have a nub!! It s about 1/2 the size of a football. Great for someone that has the space for that sort of thing. I do not.Depending on your needs, this may be perfect for you. For me- notsomuch.... I returned it. 1Nice looking sharpenerNice looking sharpener, but the blades must have become dull after a month or so. I bought this sharpener for my classroom back in April and had hoped that it would last until the end of the school year in June. After about a month, the pencils points became dull and would break often. I was very disappointed. Hope they can improve on this model, but I will try another brand for the next school year. 3Amazing for Artist Prisma Colored Pencils- Saves time and hassle, & pencils!I've owned this for about a week so far and it's great! sharpened all of my prisma colored pencils, and just got a little warm when I sharpened all of them. I was amazed at how much time this saves, and that it didn't break any of my prisma colored pencils.My Prisma colored pencils have been really difficult to sharpen, and although I sharpen them by hand I've constantly had issues with them breaking-( I've red some forums and people seem to think this is due to the quality of Prisma colored pencils going down over the last few years) I've been really impressed that this pencil sharpener sharpens without breaking the points, and I no longer am having this issue!As some reviews mention it makes a point but it's like a straight point at the very top instead of a perfect pinpoint. Still perfectly sharp enough to do fine details.I was a little put off by how big it was at first, and it certainly is not whisper quiet, but after seeing how much time it saves me from hand sharpening, it's truly amazing. Just hope it keeps working for a very very long time. 5The price was great and the product just as good as it was ...I had a Bostitch sharpener many years ago and I never forgot its quality. When I saw this on sale at amazon I pounced. The price was great and the product just as good as it was back when. This fits several sizes of pencils which is good for me since I do pencil drawings a lot. I have noticed that may pencils I use for drawing are made with a cheaper wood and tbus the pencils don't hold a point very well. Using a hand held sharpener is out of the question because the point keeps breaking using them. The Bostitch does an amazing job and the kids love it too. When they come home from school its line up time as they sharpen their pencils for the next day. It looks great on the desk top and does its work effortlessly. I only use Bostitch products because I trust them and their products and the price is always fair. . 5Huge and powerful.This woodchipper is way too much pencil sharpener for my needs but would probably work well in a busy office or classroom. It came highly recommended to me by an artist friend. I needed it for colored pencils but what I really needed was to downsize it considerably. A one size sharpener would have been better for me. It's very sturdy and well made but there are other sharpeners in this brand if you're just looking for a small desk top sharpener. I wish I would have shopped around more. There are suction cups on the bottom that is a great feature. And luckily it has a stop feature that doesn't let the sharpener eat your whole pencil. It sharpens in a split second but it's a pretty noisy second. I knocked off a star because of how loud it is. 4Outstanding sharpener. Would 100% recommend for any colored pencil artist.Outstanding pencil sharpener. I work with colored pencils on a daily basis and having a reliable electric sharpener has been a wonderful time saver. The standard hole (marked with an "S" on the plate) can sharpen both Faber Castell Polychromos and Prismacolor pencils. The next larger size is a little too big for Caran D'Ache Luminance pencils, but if you stabilize the pencil, it sharpens with no issues. The suction cups on the bottom were a thoughtful touch and I haven't had any issues with the sharpener sliding as I sharpen my pencils. After two weeks of daily use, I would definitely recommend this sharpener to anyone looking for a nice electric sharpener.The one downside is the claim that it's a quiet sharpener is not true. It generates the same amount of noise as any other pencil sharpener I've ever used. 5Very quietIt really is quiet. I bought this to replace a very loud older sharpener which often interrupted class. You can hardly hear the pencil being sharpened with this one. It does a pretty good job of getting a god point on the pencil to, but unless you push the pencil all the way in, you will only get one side sharpened. This has happened even whrn the pencil is all the way in too, which is why I'm only giving 4 stars. The sharpener this one replaced was on its last legs, so if this one sometimes sharpens only one side, I'm okay with that. The students can still write with it, and it is quiet, and that is all that matters. 4Not a good buy; read why.Read reviews before I purchased this item. Most reviews were positive. However I should have paid more attention to the negative comments. You really need this only if you are using the Ticonderoga Beginners #2 pencils, as they are extra large and have a completely smooth surface. Love the pencil, not the sharpener. Had to return it because it does not sharpen the whole point surface, thus you wind up with a very short exposed lead point. Called vendor, said I should have purchased the more expensive ($20.00 more) as it does a better job and had a sharpener blade that can be replaced. I also has a couple more items this product does not have. I really would not recommend this unit. I am going to buy the other one and see if it is truly better for the extra money. Note: I was given a $10.00 credit by Amazon for my trouble. 2Fast and effectiveWhen this sharpener arrived I was very surprised at its size. It was the largest pencil sharpener I had ever seen. It took an enormous amount of space and wasn't quiet by any means. But it is so fast. I've sharpened hundreds of pencils with this. Pencils come out neatly sharpened and in just a couple of seconds. I love that it has so many pencil hole sizes because I have luminance and polychromos pencils which are larger and don't fit some of the standard holes of other electric sharpeners. The drawer is huge so you can sharpen quite a few pencils without having to empty it. For studio use its great. 5
