Looks really nice but lid does not lock over the pitcherJust received this Brita and find that is has a really nice design and looks attractive on the countertop (we like room temp water). But somehow the lid does not lock over the pitcher. I've adjusted, re-adjusted and removed/re-assembled the pieces but the same is still true. It will either lock only on the front (where the lip for pouring is) or in the back (where the handle is). It is brand new, out of packaging so it is quite puzzling. It seems the make is poor. Maybe I got a bad pitcher unit but I just noticed that there were other reviews saying the same thing. It's disappointing because I really like the way it looks. Now I don't know what to do. It has already been opened and washed. I dont know if this canbe returned. 2Badly Constructed BewareThe pitcher is badly constructed. The pitcher has developed a leak at the bottom of the handle, after a week of use. I have never dropped the pitcher or slammed it. 1Why is the counter all wet?I'm extremely disappointed in this pitcher, and Brita.The first pitcher arrived with a crack that seemed due to rough shipping. The packaging could have been better, so I returned it for free and received another one. After a few months of use, and definitely after the Amazon return window, the pitcher developed tiny stress fractures/cracks just like those mentioned in reviews that are even two years old. We're a careful household so I dismissed those reviews as perhaps being due to rough usage.I recommend that you believe the reviews that mention cracks. I've owned 5 Brita pitchers over many years. The plastic being used by Brita in these pitchers is inferior to other pitchers. Cracks developed around the handle, but didn't leak. Then cracks developed around the pouring spout, again no leaks. Then cracks formed around the base of the pitcher and sure enough, those started leaking. "Why is the counter all wet?"Since there are two-year old reviews on here mentioning cracks, Brita knows about this problem with this brittle plastic and has done nothing to solve it. They obviously don't care about their consumers and just keep selling the product.I'm looking for another brand. I'll seriously consider never buying Brita again. They just don't care. 1Pretty, But FlawedFirst, let me just say that the water that comes out of the tap in my house is fairly disgusting. Sometimes is smells like bleach, sometimes it smells like eggs, but it's always hard and thick. Making that sort of water palatable is not an easy feat, yet a Brita filtration system helps (as long as I change my filter every two weeks). It may not taste quite as good as the water I used to have delivered to my home, but it is a lot less expensive.If I have any problems with the Brita Marina Pitcher, they are not based upon its ability to filter water. The filter locks in securely, and I haven't had any problems with stray bits of carbon finding their way into my drinking water. They also aren't based upon the aesthetics of the design because this is a lovely pitcher.The first problem I have with this pitcher is that it's really bulky. It takes up far more room in the refrigerator than it should, and it constantly gets in the way. It's too tall to fit comfortably in the refrigerator door, and it's more awkwardly shaped than a gallon of milk.The second is that the filter change indicator doesn't work properly. Again, I have to change my filter more frequently that most people would, so I don't use it, but I do notice it blinking to indicate the fact that water's being poured when it shouldn't and not blinking when it should. The problem that it creates for me has more to do with cleaning than it not working properly. Hard water leaves hard water residue, and the lid would be far easier to clean without the indicator (or its randomly flashing lights).The next is that the spout has a little flap that's attached to the lid over it. When you pour, the flap is (in theory) supposed to open to allow for the passage of water from pitcher to glass. Problem is, it doesn't always open, which allows for the passage of water from pitcher to floor, pitcher to counter, and if you're really, really lucky, pitcher to your clothing. Don't get me wrong, I like the fact that the flap keeps fridge smells and debris out of the pitcher. I just wish it wasn't quite as temperamental.Last, but certainly not least, is the leak issue. I hadn't done enough detective work to find out why I often find this pitcher in a puddle, but I don't overfill my pitcher, so I'm assuming that water must be able to get in the handle while I'm filling it (and then slowly leak out in the fridge). Whatever the cause, it's not the sort of leak that does any real damage, but constantly mopping up pitcher puddles gets annoying after a while.That written, Brita has to make a better pitcher than this. Sure, it's pretty, but there has to be a Brita pitcher on the market that pours consistently, doesn't leak, is easy to clean and is more economical in regards to refrigerator space. 3what I liked about the design was when you filled it and ...Bought it to replace one we had for a bit over 3 years, what I liked about the design was when you filled it and move it it leans forward so it doesn't spill down the handle, what I never liked was the battery for changing filters could not be replaced. This new one is the same way and it no longer lights up after pouring- it only lights up when it's filled. Anyway in 3 years maybe that issue will be addressed. 3I should have listened to the negative reviewsI really wanted to like this because it was the perfect shape and size. My previous 10 cup Brita which I had for years was just getting old and the color didn't match my kitchen. When this first arrived, I quickly figured out how to not get water into the handle by only filling to the indicator line. But then after just 6 weeks, and with careful handling it cracked and I woke up to water all over the counter and floor. I'm going to write the seller and see if I can get a refund or new product - but believe the bad reviews that say it springs a leak after just a short while. It's true, true, true. Brita should be ashamed. I hope there's no lasting damage/buckling of my wood floor. 1Stress cracks under the handle caused leaking after four months.Purchased this pitcher in August 2015 and this is at least the 3rd Brita Pitcher we've owned. The others have been the bigger size. I have really enjoyed this one's smaller size. It's easier to pick up when it's full and it doesn't take up much space in the refrigerator. Yesterday I noticed that there was a puddle of water on the counter when I picked it up. This happened several more times before I realized that there are a series of small stress cracks around the perimeter of the bottom - the biggest two are right below the handle. Other commenters have also noted this problem, so I'm thinking design flaw. We never experienced this problem with the other pitchers. Anyway, I like Brita pitchers - our water tastes better and it keeps us from buying so much bottled water - so I'll contact whoever it is you contact in these situations and get another one. 1Hard to keep it cleanI love the look of the pitcher and didn't care that the lid doesn't stay tight when you pour the water out. However, the problem is that bottom of the pitcher is a separate part from the body. I mainly use this pitcher at work. Went on vacation for a week, came back and see water was green. I emptied the water out, hand washed the pitcher with hot water and still saw the green algae. Up close examination, the algae is inside the crack of the 2 parts connection. (See picture). I took it home, put it the washer with hot water and still couldn't get the algae out. :( 1Brita Pitchers Have Come A Long Way...I haven't used a Brita pitcher in a very long time, but needing good, filtered water for use in a new coffeemaker had me order this little gem. First and foremost, let me say that they fixed the thing that I hated the most about Brita pitchers-- the top of the pitcher popping off when you would be pouring water. This new design is more secure-- no more worrying about the top coming off.As for the design of the Marina filter, I really like the modern look of this round pitcher versus the old squarish/rectangular shape of my old Brita pitcher. It's just the right size and fits nicely on the top shelf of my refrigerator.My only negative is in regards to filling the filtering compartment (and is probably true of all water filter pitchers). Filling the filtering compartment once with water will not fill up your pitcher fully. You need to half-fill the compartment a second time to produce a pitcher full of filtered water. Not that it's a big deal once you get used to using your pitcher but for the first few days I had the pitcher, I was having to dump out some of the water because I had over filled the pitcher.It might be helpful of Brita put 2 guide lines on the inside of the filtering compartment so that you can visually see how much water you need to add in order to fill your pitcher to the correct level.It was between this pitcher and a Pur water pitcher. Frankly, I chose the Brita because replacement filters were cheaper than the filters for the Pur. I figure that if the filters are affordable, I will actually change them at the suggested intervals. After all, without a clean, functioning water filter, you might as well drink the water directly from your kitchen faucet... 4Brittle Plastic ProblemIn less than six months use this Brita Pitcher started to leak. At first I thought it was from overfill pouring into the hollow handle and then ultimately coming out on the bottom. I decided to not fill it as high and to focus on not letting water to flow near the handle. In fact, the problem became worse. Finally, I did an examination of the pitcher and found numerous small nicks (1/2" or so) on the bottom that may be the result of a heavy pitcher hitting a granite countertop after refill. At this point, I let the pitcher dry completely overnight and then put super glue in each crack. I then placed the refilled pitcher in a dish to contain leakage. 24 hours later there was no dampness. It became clear that the small cracks were the problem. At this point, I started to use the pitcher, but after about a week the glued pitcher started to leak again. I would recommend that Brita add a cushioning layer on the bottom of their product. I did not abuse this pitcher. It should have lasted longer. 2
