Customer Reviews

Looked great but then overheated and diedWorked well for maybe fifteen minutes, then overheated and the lights started failing one by one (I was driving them with random colors, so average 50% duty cycle.) Neat product, and maybe I just got a bad one -- but reliability may be an issue with these.Power input was 5.0V, +- 0.1V or so; current draw was almost nil when off and scaled with brightness. I think they just can't handle the heat. 1Great lights Great LED and a good price. I used these around a 27" RoG swift monitor coupled with an arduino and a custom build of Prismatik to give me reactive ambient lighting while gaming and these work fantastic! 5Great Strips / Amazing Customer ServiceI honestly cannot say enough about BTF and their customer service. I have been ordering the 2812B strips for a while and love the results. I had a different set up strips that had an issue and BTF responded and replaced immediately. Amazing customer service.I use the 2812B strips for NeoPixel Lightsaber blades. The power supply I use is a KeepPower 18650 15A battery, wired into an Arduino / Teensy 3.2 setup. I also tried it with a Spark Color 2, Nano Biscotte V4 and Prizm 5.1 controllers, ran with other high discharge batteries. All have been proved compatible with dozens of previous builds by myself and others in my saber building group. I do have another SK6812 strip setup which works perfectly, which is why I bought these.I build custom lightsaber (yes the laser swords from star wars). Myself and a couple dozen of us that are in an online club build blades using polycarbonite tubing, with the led strips placed inside of the tubing. We use WS2812B, WS2813, and SK6812 strips because they all work with our builds and how we program the boards. We take two led strips and place them back to back, wiring them in parallel, then putting resistors between the data pad and the adapter pcb. I have had the best results with the 2812B strips.I hope this all helps you make a decision on which strips to buy. I have had many compliments on the brightness of these strips, which I owe to BTF. Many of us in the group have tried different strips. And some have proven not to work. These strips have been very successful for many of us. 5Bright Lights Fully Customizable!WS2812b's are my go-to for LEDs. They react quickly and each light can be individually addressed with bright vibrant colors. I use an Arduino with the FastLED library to run the lights and setup is a breeze. Make sure to grab an appropriate sized 5v power supply if you want to light up more than a few at a time. If you turn on too many WS2812bs at a time be aware that it can put too much current through your USB port and the Arduino itself. They come in a spool with a sticky back for permanent attachment to a surface. The LEDs are mounted on a continuous ribbon that has some wires pre-soldered on one end. The ribbon can be cut into smaller sections and have little pads to solder on new power/data cables. These pads will need some strain relief as I've found them to be the main failure point if they are bent too much and pull off the ribbon. Also be careful not to mix up your power, neutral, and data lines. Follow the color line on the packaging. My one suggestion to the manufacturer is to find a better translator for the packaging. It has some glorious Engrish that brings a smile to my face every time I see it. 5High failure rate from low-quality LEDs.High failure rate with these. I've had multiple strips start glitching out or dying on me after some time, including a strip that had arrived and didn't work. The problem is that the LEDs are poor quality compared to other vendors. This often has to do with how well the LED's transparent potting material protects the chip and its bonding wires from impact, water vapor, and changes in temperature. You can do an "ink test" by placing a permanent ink marker on the face of the LED and watch the ink bleed into the chip surface below. That implies that there is a poor seal around the face of the LED. This seller ought to source better quality LEDs, but I guess you get what you pay for. These might be fine for light duty, or if you don't mind repairing and replacing them over time, but I think I'll seek out other vendors. 2Bad LED batch but Customer Service was AmazingThis is my 3rd time coming back and reviewing this product in the last month, before I get down to it the seller has been extremely helpful and responsive. Ok so I ordered about 26 feet of these lights and it came with multiple dead pixels, fixed them and everything worked fine. I siliconed the lights in aluminum frame for a permanent install and tested them. Things are all good at this point but not to long after I've had over 10 more dead pixels and they just keep coming, I want to give the seller the benefit of the doubt really but it continues to happen and I cant permanently install them because I'm afraid its going to keep happening. I hate to bad mouth product specially because things just happen sometime and can never be perfect but I've wasted probably a lot of money and 10 hours of work on these lights to just have them fail on me. I would send them back but have cut them up already for bad LED's and my project....... WAIT AND SAVE YOUR TIME AND FIND A GOOD ws2813 Strip that is duel data line so this cant happen prices should be coming down soon I hope. 4Not a straight 144 more like 2 72 led strips joined in the middle They work great. The only thing I think anyone should know is that this is more of 2 72 led stands put together. Worked out better for me and what I wanted them for. Very bright and work Perfect with a t1000s controller. 4High quality LED strips! First up, I ll talk about the LED strips themselves: As an electrical engineer I can say these are well made strips! Flex PCBs can vary in thickness and quality. These appear to be made from quality flex material with wide 1oz copper traces for power. Each individual LED on the strip has its own 0.1uF decoupling capacitor, which is important to keep communication between LEDs from glitching. (A lot of cheaper strips skip this!)The only issue I ran into was the first strip I ordered didn t have any adhesive tape on the back of it! I contacted BTF Lighting on Amazon and they replied right away, letting me know that the adhesive should have been on the strip and that someone had goofed at the factory. They provided me an Amazon link to a roll of 10mm wide double sided tape and offered to refund me that amount (around $10) if I wanted to just order it and put it on myself, instead of going through the whole return thing. That s pretty good customer service in my book, so kudos to BTF! (The second strip *did* have the tape installed as advertised, so I assume this was an oversight at the factor like they said.)Each strip pulls just under 5A with all LEDs set to white at maximum brightness. Cooling didn t seem to be issue, even rolled up the strip never got so hot I couldn't hold it by hand. There were no dead pixels in either strip and brightness and color were uniform and matched between strips. Now, onto my project: Awhile back I picked up a couple of those Himalayan salt lamps at a Goodwill (I know they don t actually emit positive ions or have any health benefits, I just think they look really cool). They were just begging to be customized, so I decided to replace the stock incandescent nightlight style bulbs with WiFi connected RGB LED lighting! My lamps both had (approximately) 3 diameter holes drilled in the bottom of them for the bulbs, so I figured it would be easy to make a cylindrical replacement. These 100 led per meter strips ended up working perfect. Originally, my plan was to wrap the LED strips *around* a 2 diameter piece of PVC piping (cut to 120mm in length). I went for the 100 LED/m instead of the more dense 144 LED/m because I thought the latter may have trouble bending enough to wrap around the small diameter of the pipe. This turned out to be a non-issue as I ended up cutting seven sections of 10 LEDs (100mm) off the roll and mounting them vertically on the pipe; this allows better alignment of the LEDs and easier management of effects in the controlling software. The 100 LED/m strips also have the advantage that the LEDs are all spaced exactly 10mm apart, which makes the math easy!First I wrapped the pipe in two layers of heat resistant Kapton tape, to prevent the pipe melting when I soldered to the LED strips. Next I adhered the seven 100mm sections of LED strip to the pipe, leaving around 10mm of free space on the bottom, I also added three small tie wraps for extra retention. Then I soldered a wire from the DO pad on the top of each section to the DI pad on the bottom of the next section; similarly I soldered very short (3mm) 20 AWG solid wire jumpers from the 5V and GND pads between sections, creating a power bus. The result is that all seven sections act as they original did before I cut them, i.e., a single strip. I also took a 1200uF capacitor and fit it snuggly in the center of the PVC pipe, then soldered the leads to the power pads of the last section. (This helps smooth out the voltage.)Finally, I took some insulating foam designed for 2 PVC piping and cut two 10mm long sections off, then slid one over the top and bottom of the pipe. These turned out to be the perfect size to act as buffers to hold the whole assembly centered inside the salt lamp. For the controller, I used an ESP8266 based D1-Mini mounted inside a small 2 x3 x1 enclosure. I drilled a 1/4 hole in one end of the enclosure and a 5/8 hole in the other end. A 5.5x2.5mm barrel jack was mounted in the larger hole and a small rubber grommet was mounted in the smaller hole, with the 3-pin LED connector pigtail fed through the grommet. The software running on the controller is the open source WLED (available on GitHub), which provides an easy to use web based interface for setting the color, brightness and/or effects of the connected LEDs, plus it integrates with Blynk, Alexa, WARLS, MQTT, Home Assistant and more! The attached video shows the fire flicker and rainbow effects running in my smaller lamp. The video really doesn t do it justice, it looks even better in person. The salt makes a perfect diffuser and people honestly think there s really a candle inside when the flame effect is going. 5Perfect for #DreamScreenTVThose of you who might be familiar with #DreamScreenTv ..These LEDs work perfectly with DreamScreenTv's DIY Hub which sends info to LED strip and that's where all the magic is - basically it immerses what you see on your TV screen, amazing tech!!! Love it!! And these LEDs are perfect match for DreamScreenTV's DIY Hub - thank you for being available here at AMAZON. I'll be coming back for more, that's a fact as many friends and cux will want #DreamScreen installed on their TV. Those of you who might be interested can follow me on fb via: Wesley Tsukazan 5Fun to play with...I liked this LED strip although I wish they were brighter. I have an old fluorescent light and I planned on removing the guts from it and putting these LEDs in it instead. The plan was to replace the light in the ceiling and then be able to change the colors of the light with my phone. These wouldn't be bright enough to replace a light in the ceiling though. I can still put them in the old florescent light enclosure but it would only serve as a mood light or accent light.Furthermore, I wish I would have bought an LED strip where the LED's were further apart. These LED's are less than half an inch apart and if I wanted to cover a large area then I would have to chop these up and solder 3 wires between each LED. This isn't a fault of the LED strip. It is my fault for not taking the spacing into consideration. My point is that before you order a programmable LED strip, be aware of what king of spacing you want. With all of that said, these things are a lot of fun to play around with. The ability to individually control the color of any LED is awesome. I would recommend these LEDs as long as you are sure you would like the spacing and they would be bright enough for you.I have a covered porch and I would love to buy another strip that is longer and has greater spacing. It would be cool to put them all around the porch and have them change colors or put on shows for different holidays. 5
