Customer Reviews

Very nice and heavy duty Very nice and heavy duty, these are all steel. I own a Remodeling company, we use nothing but the best, Steel withstand hail, wind, snow, Rain and heat. Has a damper and screen also. 5Well-built, easy to install Installed this on my roof with no problems. I poked a 4" hole through the shingles and roof decking, then cut out a square of remaining shingles around the body so that the flanges would slide under the remaining shingles. Just be careful as you do that so that you don't break shingles - pry carefully with a cat's paw or drywall knife. Apply roof cement, work it under the shingles, and nail the top flange under the last course at the top. 5Great Cap I've put in a bunch of caps through the last few years. I'm a remodeling contractor specializing in high end bathroom remodels. Generally I've been putting in the Broan vent caps because they are easily available in my area, but I decided to give this one a try after my supplier was sold out of the Broan. This is way nicer than the Broan. It is more solid and the paint is even higher quality. The flapper is solid and moves easily. It also seems to be thicker gauge metal. I won't be going back to Broan. This is far superior. 5Very Good Vent, Best One Out There Very well built heavy duty exhaust roof vent, very sturdy and well designed, the press formed base insures that no rain water can get through. Compared to the cheaply built flimsy roof vents that HD or Lowes sells, (that look like they could be crushed as easy as a soda can), this vent is so much better and cheaper too. Plus the flapper door seems so much better than the others because it doesn t get hung up and stuck open like the cheaper ones do. 5Reduced build and design quality compared to broan This would do the trick for many people, but I'm picky. The duct was crooked coming out the bottom, because the plate it was mounted to inside the vent was warped. I couldn't get it straightened. The mesh was not installed/cut properly, and the flapper for the vent has no foam to absorb any noise when it closes. Between these three things, I opted to return and get the broan. I guess you get what you pay for. 3Good quality but needs modification I would buy it again. Good quality. The flapper sits well inside. Sturdy outside. Much better than the ones sold in HoDe, it needs a little modification though. I am giving three stars because of that. The metal net is very flimsy and would be easily pushed away by bird or squirrel. What I did: First push from the inside the net holder and it would slide forward so when screwing you don't penetrate the whole body but just the net holder. Drilled pilot holes. I screwed two small machine #6 x 1/4 screws to the metal net holder. Then push it back in and the mesh will stretch and the upper end will push toward the "overhang" per say. Then I screwed three screws from the top, long enough, making sure I am catching with each screw one of the net squares to prevent the mesh from going back if pushed by animal. The sharp tips of the screws will deter intruders too. During the installation I put a bid of silicone on the screws to prevent from rusting. I was thinking to put some sort of glue/epoxy around the perimeter to secure the mesh to the body but never did it. 3Works well, but has an issue turning off. Let s start by saying I did a ton of research on these type of blowers. I finally landed on this one. I have some pros and some cons. So you ll have to decide if it s for you. Pro: it ships fast. Con: it s expensive. Pro: it s blows like a tornado. Con: it s pretty loud. The list goes back and forth, but there is definitely one problem you ll need to address during instal. The system turns on and off by a sensor. It senses humidity and pressure. If either are sensed the system will turn on. It s a neat feature. The problem is it doesn t always shut off. There is a design flaw I believe they are aware of and are not doing a lot about. So after a few months I had to install a switch near the unit to turn it off when it refuses to. You can unplug it or turn of the breaker, but that is a pain. Just run a light switch to the outlet to reset it in the case it has the same problem, with it will. Overall I m happy, just wish I knew about this problem in the beginning. 3Rusted and stained my roof in 3 years. "Galvanized"? "Powder coated"? I don't think so. I purchased this and had my roofers install it in October 2013 on an old house I'm renovating. I selected this one with the assumption it would be long lasting based on the manufacturer's description. I noticed last fall that it looked like it was rusting. When I was at the property yesterday, I observed that it has now rusted so much that it has left stains on the shingles. I believe that if it truly was "powder coated" the finish should have lasted more than 3 years, and even if it failed I would still have the protection of "galvanized" metal. I'm not looking forward to going up on the roof to replace it, it's near the ridge of a 12/12 pitch roof on a 1 & 1/2 story house but it's ruining some very expensive shingles so I have no choice. I am very disappointed in the quality of this item, I was expecting it to last the life of the roof. I used a lead (old school) plumbing vent jack for the same reason. When I replace this thing this summer I'm going with one made of copper; I'm getting too old for this. 1better than Broan The box arrived trashed but the ventilator was okay. Heavier construction than the rusted out Broan which it replaced. Before installing it I gave it a couple of extra coats with Rust-oleum. I also used hex head rubber gasketed screws in case I ever have to remove it. I used roofing nails on the previous ventilator and it was difficult to get them out without damaging the shingles. I'll be ordering another one to replace my other Broan before it too fails 5Roofer told me very well built I just bought two of these and had them professionally installed. When a roofer tells you that what you bought for him to install is of a really good quality, that's quite a validation. We all know that many roofers will just install whatever is available from the local box stores, the cheapest, etc. But after reading many of the reviews here, I decided that this was the best option. One of the leading flanges needed to be slightly straightened with a soft blow hammer, but other than that they arrived in great shape. No big deal. After reading some reviews that mentioned premature rust, I decided to give them both an inside and out rattle can spray coat of heavy duty Krylon paint that was meant for severe conditions. So my expectation is that this additional barrier will allow them to outlast one that was simply installed right out of the box.Everything that I saw for sale at the local Home Depot and Lowe's was junk in my opinion. These are worth a little more money and the small wait for free shipping. 5
