Customer Reviews

UPDATED REVIEW (6 months after original review)UPDATED REVIEWMy son is now almost 16 months old and this now fits him perfect. -fits a 16 month old -easy to put it in a wiggling toddler and the neck tie allows me to put it at the perfect tightness for him. -even slippery spaghetti can t find its way under the sleeves! -after a messy meal only his hands and mouth are dirty rather than his arms, chest etc. -Cleaning it bothers me since I hand wash and I feel like it takes forever to dry since the elastic at the wrists create folds where water lingers. -I wouldn t purchase this one again but it s still something I use when spaghetti or the crazy messy broccoli is on the menu :)Great for a toddler but skip for babies ;)ORIGINAL REVIEWWe got this to use while doing baby led weaning with our 9 month old. For sizing reference he is in the 50% for height and 40% for weight. While the bib was helpful at keeping his arms clean it is not a good choice for babies or younger toddlers. His arms remained clean but the heck area is far to large. The food managed to slide right under and down his tummy. We are keeping this as I think it will be a great item when he is older. The quality is good, the sleeves have enough elastic around the wrist and its easy enough to clean and dry. Overall I recommend it for a toddler but not for a new baby just learning to eat :) 3Very well designed bib! Here are a few tips when using it...We have been very happy owners of the Bumkins bibs for our daughter, starting with the baby version and then the "Superbib" (both are sleeveless). However, as she progressed to eating with her hands and then with a spoon, her messes outgrew the ability of both of those bibs to handle them. Especially when eating applesauce, yogurt, or similar foods, most of what didn't make it into her mouth would end up all over her arms or down around her thighs. This bib addresses 99% of that spillover. Here is what makes this such a great bib and why I find it superior to others:1) Despite how large it is, it is soft, very lightweight, and completely waterproof. We tried several other large-pocket bibs were made of silicone-like material, and they were just too stiff to be comfortable, especially in the neck area. It made me uncomfortable just looking at her in those!2) The sleeves provide full coverage of the arms, but better still, the sleeves have elastic at their ends which forms a little "seal" around your little one's wrists -- not tight, but snug enough to prevent even the most tenacious of applesauce globs from getting inside the sleeves. Major score here.3) There is a large pocket that can catch a lot of dropped food... but see the tips below!4) The bib secures behind the neck with ties, not velcro or snaps. We have some velcro bibs as well, and our daughter discovered that she could rip them off with gusto when she felt she was finished eating. Though I can't deny the dramatic effect the gesture had, it typically resulted in food being flung across the kitchen, which was not ideal. Better, we decided, for her bib to stay put until we could remove it in a controlled fashion, and the ties on this bib prevent such theatrics (and messes). So when do we use this bib? If our daughter is just having a snack in her high chair, like some Goldfish crackers and pieces of fruit, the sleeveless Bumkins Superbib does an admirable job. But if she is going to eat just about anything involving a spoon, or foods that can be messy like applesauce, this bib gets called into action. It's a workhorse of a bib, but there are definitely a few things you can do to maximize its effectiveness:1) As I mentioned above, the bib's pocket is cavernous, but it is attached to the front of the bib at its center, which unfortunately means it does not stick out to catch food very well. We found that most of what dropped from the spoon bypassed the pocket and ended up in our daughter's lap. We fixed this problem by snipping the threads holding the pocket to the bib, allowing the pocket to billow forth in all its glory and trap those pesky food drippings.2) When you secure the ties behind your little one's neck, make sure you draw the front of the bib up fairly high, so the front "collar" is beneath the chin; if you don't, the runnier foods can easily dribble right down beneath the bib. Note that I'm not saying to tie it tightly! You can pull the front of the bib up high but still have some slack in the ties.3) When you go to remove the bib at the conclusion of a meal, take it off slowly and carefully! Remember that cavernous pocket I talked about? Turns out it can hold an enormous amount of food, and if you aren't careful when you remove the bib you may regret it. I'm embarrassed to say I made this mistake several times.Bottom line: We have been very impressed with the quality, functionality, and sturdiness of the Bumkins line of bibs, and this sleeved version is well worth its price. 5Great even for small babies/toddlers.My baby started to self-feed a few months ago and it has been quite the adventure. It felt like I was constantly doing laundry and working to get stains out to no avail. It got to the point that I was ruining clothes so often that I would just feed her in her diaper. Well with the colder weather I knew this would no longer be an option so I started looking for something to fix my issue. This bib has been great. My 14 month old baby is pretty petite (17lbs) but this bib still works perfectly for us. The tight elastic cuffs around the wrists allow the sleeves to stay up where they belong instead of drooping down and covering her hands like other bibs have. The tie back goes fairly tight around her neck and also prevents her from ripping the bib off! The material is extremely easy to wash by hand. The food just wipes right off and the bib is dry and ready to use by the next mealtime. Once a week I throw this bib into the washer to give it a thorough cleaning and hang-dry. So far, after a few months of use, there hasn't been any staining. The only reason that I'm not giving this 5 stars is because the food catcher pocket is terrible. It might as well be nonexistent. It's sown shut in the middle and prevents the bib from catching any food that falls. Another thing to note is that my daughter fights me on wearing this bib. I'm guessing it's the uncomfortable material and feel of it that she doesn't like. We've gotten to the point that she is learning to tolerate it, but in the beginning it was a real struggle getting her to wear this at all. But that could just be my baby. 4they are like fabric but waterproofI'm a professional nanny and mom of 2. Whenever I start a new job I gift the parent(s) with a long and short-sleeved Bumkins bib. I figure it will pay back to me in ease of care for the child. I came across these when my own kids were little and I will never buy another bib...they are like fabric but waterproof! They wash great and dry quickly. When I first found these they were only in boutique-y stores. Gratefully they're readily available online and for a better price. Don't think twice! Your sanity is worth every penny! 5A must!Do not attempt Baby Led Weaning without a sleeved bib! These are fantastic! 5Poor quality - three uses and it s ruined. After approximately three uses (and no machine wash), this bib is literally falling apart at the seams. Cute idea, design seems good, but poor quality. 1Very very large, wait to get these until your child is much bigger than the stated age.Bumkins must have changed their bibs and designs over in the last couple years, because I have recently purchased one of every kind they sell and there is something different about the superbib and the long sleeve bib. Anyways, my fist child had these, and long sleeves are a must for a self feeding infant. I like the new addition of gathering the wrists of the sleeves since the food would get up the sleeves if they weren't rolled underneath. The backs used to be closed with Velcro, but now it is a flimsy bias tape tie. I prefer quickly sticking Velcro together than tying a small bow on a wriggling child..it also could get knotted and it would be a pain to undo since the tie is very thin. Also, the bib is huuuuuge. I did put it on my tall17.5 lb six month old since the size says 6-24 months but there is no way you would put your six month old in this.,...it was bunched everywhere, floating in every direction, though I was able to tie the bib tight enough. It is like a size 2T. Save this for when you child is much bigger, like way past a year old unless they are in the 99th percentile in everything. I kept them but they are much bigger cut now than their original sleeved bib. 3Sleeves Are Saved From My Messy Eater!I now have 2 of these in different prints. They are great! I am a strong believer in silicone bibs. I think they are fantastic. But as my son was getting older and more into feeding himself, I found that I would have to take off his shirt or else there would be food all over his sleeves. With the Winter months here, I found myself not wanting to take off his shirt because he would freeze. Then I came across this type of bib. Lifesaver! These are great to throw over clothes and he will remain clean underneath. I've even used them while finger painting with washable paints! They are easy to clean. I've washed them both by hand and in the washing machine (I let them air dry) with no problem. There are only two negatives, but I don't think they warrant taking off a star because they apply to any bib of this style...They take much longer to dry then a silicone bib - so I recommend getting a second one to rotate & the pocket to catch the food is pretty useless since it is flat against the bib. But this bib is seriously awesome for the main purpose of protecting sleeves from messes.PRO TIP: If you're worried about food etc from getting on pants with a messy kid - put a silicone bib over it. It seems ridiculous, but I've had to do it a couple times and my son's outfit was perfect after a messy meal! 5Terrible quality and overpriced!I purchased two bibs from bumkins, and these bibs, by no stretch of the imagination, are cheap. We have used the bibs for three days and one of the bibs is falling apart! I am totally disappointed on the quality of such an expensive baby item! The neck straps that are sewn on our completely coming apart. We have not even washed the bibs yet. I cannot imagine what they would look like after a wash. Save your money and buy the cheaper ones on here. I did and they lasted about five months. I included pictures so you can see how badly made the gray babe is. The pink one is holding up so far. Posted a picture of that one just for comparison . 1Could resist stains better; fits wellAs soon as this arrived, we used it that night since we were having spaghetti. It kept our daughter clean, but the bib did not wash clean. You can see the dingy spot in the picture. Not a huge deal, since the point of the product is to get dirty and keep your kid clean, which it did. But I assumed it would be better at resisting stains since it's designed to get dirty. We washed it about an hour after dinner with dish soap and water. Maybe it will come out in the washing machine but I didn't plan on washing it in the machine after each use. Hand washing should suffice. As far as fit, although it's a little bulky on our 7 month old (to be expected when the range is 6-24 months), it is not a hindrance and it will fit her for a long time, which is great. We also tried it on our 2 year old and it fit him as well. Overall, I like the product, just a little disappointed about the stain.UPDATE: the stain came out after a few more washes and there hasn't been another one since. 4
