Customer Reviews

but I did include one where he had fallen asleep mid climb so you can see what the back of his hair looked like. It nearly alwayMy son is two, and he has autism with a side of sensory processing disorder. Hair cuts are hard for him, so I only cut what was getting in his eyes before the calming clipper, and even then it was a fight. I did once give it a try with electric clippers, but it was torture for him. The way he panicked and cried, it honestly felt abusive. I promised him "never again" and ordered these from Amazon. I didn't think to get an official "before photo", but I did include one where he had fallen asleep mid climb so you can see what the back of his hair looked like. It nearly always stuck straight out like that, no matter how much we combed it, and he really didn't like me to comb it. The hair cut itself was a long process. I used a misting water bottle to wet his hair, and a fine toothed comb to lift the hair as I cut. I made fast snips near his head, and once in a while took a bit of hair and cut. I gave him his first cup of jello to distract him. He still didn't enjoy the hair cut, but we got through it with one adult holding his chin and playing a video on a tablet while the other cut. We got through it. He didn't let me do much with the front, but it was our first try. I like the cut, people compliment us on it often.A couple of thoughts though. I wish just the scissors were available as a stand alone item for a better price, and that left and right handed came in a different color. My husband is right handed and I am left handed. I bought a right handed set because I thought he'd be the better cutter, but it turns out that I am. I wish I had a left handed pair too, but I can't see spending another $35 for the whole set. The other thing I noticed is that the attachments are numbered, but it does not say the length. I replaced my guards with leftover Wahl guards from the electric clippers my kids won't let me use for that reason, which kind of made me wish I could have bought just the scissors to start with. Still, though, I give it 5 stars and recommend it to everyone. Even people with neuro-typical kids say they would feel more confident cutting their hair with calming clippers. 5THANK YOU! AMAZING results.Wow, THANK GOD for this product!! I can't believe you guys did it. Our 5 year old with Autism could not withstand a haircut using the traditional clippers without throwing a tantrum. With this product, i was able to successfully give him a super cut. I know there are many families that will benefit from your product. I highly recommend it. Very easy to use and clean. Thanks again. Will definitely recommend to any family with a child on the spectrum or for any child who is afraid of clippers. The photo is after his cut. 5Amazing!This product is amazing. My son is severely autistic and hates his hair brushed or cut. To cut his hair my husband runs the clippers as fast as he can while I hold my son in place and keep him from running away...all amid screams and cries. I got these in the mail and gave my son a haircut today. I put a few pieces of candy in the table and sat him down. He said all done a few times and didn't want to do it but he didn't try to get up or cry. His haircut came out so good! It looks like a real salon did it!!!! Thank you for coming up with this. Oh and you can't cut them with the clipper piece on the scissors so if he squirms around I don't have to stop! 5I very rarely post reviews but feel like I must so my fellow ASD parents do not ...I don't know who are the people loving this product! I very rarely post reviews but feel like I must so my fellow ASD parents do not waste their money and time! These scissors are dull and do not cut well at all, you have to hold small sections of hair up and then cut (per directions) it takes multiple snips as only the back of the scissors cut at all, my son isn't a squirmer and I couldn't stand trying for more than 2 minutes. the small section I managed to trim was uneven and choppy looking... I ended up taking out the regular clippers and doing haircuts the regular way. Do not waste your resources on these...go get a high quality clipper (or a friendly hair dresser/barber) and lot of your kids favorite reinforcers your time and money will be better spent! 1Best product for sensory sensitivity! We have an 8 year old autistic grandson...His "triggers" are sounds (we have to keep volume on TV/radio/ringtones down very low), vibration, being confined...needless to say getting a haircut was so traumatic that it was a battle we did not often choose. Since he insists on wearing a knit "beanie" year-round we were okay with the longer hair...we would always ask when one of us were getting a haircut and there would be some interest ...but we could not get more than one snip in before he was screaming "No! No! It hurts". However, as soon as the calming clippers came in, he wanted to try them...we let him snip his hair a little and then we showed him the cape...well that was it...when Mom asked if he wanted her to cut a little off the top....he let her and then insisted on standing in the bathroom to watch her cut the rest while he watched in the mirror! Our grandson now has a very nice, short "boy" haircut and, not only did he not have a traumatic experience, he laughed and smiled the whole time! He still insists on wearing his beanie most of the time... However, he regularly takes his beanie off to show off his "beautiful haircut" (his words!). Thank you, whoever thought of this product! It works like a charm! 5He is 100% fine with me cutting his hair with a spray bottle ...For me these scissors were just ok. My son cannot stand the noise of a buzzer. He is 100% fine with me cutting his hair with a spray bottle and a scissor but bc i am not that good at hair cutting it never comes out great and even if i wanted to pay for every hair cut he does not tolerate getting hair cuts at a place very well even without the buzzer. These scissors seemed like a compromise between the buzzer and a regular scissor and was worth the money for me to try. At first I found the scissors extremely awkward to use (which made the hair cut take longer than normal and therefore more difficult with my son). I definitely got the knack of it though and that should not be an issue every time but just figured it is a good warning to people who want to try. You may want to try the scissors out before actually attempting a hair cut with your child. The main issues for me which wont change was that i could not cut my sons hair while wet (had to be dry for the scissors to work on his hair) and I had to continuously tighten the scissors. These may not actually be issues for others but for me they did make the hair cut more difficult. My son is extremely sensitive to the dry hair falling on his neck (even while wearing the cape) so even though i managed to finish the hair cut he was flipping out because of that. As far as tightening the scissors - he does have thick hair and i was only able to cut small sections at a time - but even with that they loosened up every 5 or so cuts. Again, might not be an issue for everyone but at least worth mentioning.Overall, I still think these scissors will work for a lot of people and worth the money if hair cuts are as bad as they are with my son. But the negatives are worth mentioning if they can save you time.***EDITED TO ADDI have to add how completely awesome their customer service is and that I received a new pair of scissors within just a few days to try. For the customer service I added another star and if you are considering/on the fence about purchasing these scissors I would definitely go for it with assurance that they want you to be 100% satisfied! The new scissors were definitely A LOT better! My son still has thick hair and it doesn't seem like I can get through a full hair cut without tightening the scissors a few times and sometimes it pulls his hair but they are still the only way I can get a full hair cut done on my son so still worth it. 4I'm not sure how these got all the great reviews. I'm always one to read reviews and ...I'm not sure how these got all the great reviews. I'm always one to read reviews and base purchases on them, but I feel like there are so many fake ones now that I can't rely on them anymore. These scissors are not sharp, they are like the $2 scissors you buy for elementary school children. They worked terribly leaving blunt cuts/marks and they didn't even work for my 3 year old who doesn't like the sound of a buzzer/clipper... so, he was the reason I purchased these... yet it didn't work... then I tried them out on my older son and it was just terrible. Just get normal hair cutting scissors and save the money you're basically throwing away when buying this junk. 3Even in the hands of a professional stylist, these just don t work! I ordered a pair of thes for my young child who is seriously averse to having his haircut (sensory processing concerns, among other things). Even at a kids salon, with a stylist who works predominantly with special needs kids has a difficult time trying to cut his hair while he s flailing and screaming. So, I figured that these had to be the solution... right? No. They barely cut anything at all, even when my child would let me trim his hair. They are a great idea, but don t work nearly as well in practice as they do in concept. I even had a friend who has been a hair stylist forever try to cut my child s hair with these and they just didn t work - and she s a professional!I know that most of the reviews are amazing, I just can t understand that when they don t work. You can try your luck like I did, or better yet save your money and keep looking. 1Try it. The company really stands behind their product!Seriously am impressed with the company. They were very intent on my satisfaction. The set did not work for my HFASD son. I never returned the set because the pieces are not even together but did leave a negative review. Today I got a package containing a letter with a check written to me paper clipped to it as well as a very nice pair of hair cutting scissors with blunted ends that I think will work woder fully for my son. They did contact me numerous times in an attempt to let me return it. Next time I get the nerve up to cut my son's hair, I will definitely give them a try. The set did not work for my son, but is seriously worth a try because they really stand behind their product! 5AMAZING invention!!!My 3 year old is deathly terrified of electric clippers, no matter how quiet. I took him to one of those kids haircutting places but they can only get it so short with their fingers and the scissors alone. This was my answer! It comes with a the scissors, a cape, and guards ranging from 1/2" to 1-1/2" and it cuts wonderfully, very sharp. Yes, it does take a little bit longer than electric clippers, but I'd much rather spend 10 minutes with these scissors and a happy child then 5 minutes with a screaming child afraid of the sound of electric clippers. In the photo I included I used the number 3 guard. I will need to trim around his ears with a pair of regular hair cutting scissors but didn't want to do too much in one day for him. Next time I'll probably use the next guard down to get it a little shorter because my son's hair is so straight it just sticks right out. lol. Overall great product!!! So happy! 5
