It is hammered, probably on a preformed shape, and or a sandbag to keep a smooth surface, so you have to look for the hammer marks. The oil it was covered with was more drizzled across the surface than coated, and could not be scrubbed of, and I had to heat the whole thing to red hot to burn it off before seasoning.Watch some YouTube to learn how to prep and maintain before you commit, if your used to factory coatings on your cookware, you may not appreciate the extra work that goes into maintaining a bare metal cooking surface. 5LOVE IT!more than i expected.
