Customer Reviews

Caution: A jizz kettle of discharging boiling hot water when reasonably full.Looks good, but we've named it the jizz-kettle, because if you fill the reservoir reasonably full, when it boils, it discharges multiple squirts of boiling hot with gargled whistles from its masculine spout. The manufacturer's claim for water volume in this kettle is not accurate. Therefore this product does not function as intended at the time of purchase. As a consumer advocate I suggest adding a measured amount of water to any kettle up to the base and bottom edge of the male spout to determine what any product will actually hold and hopefully still 'function as intended at the time of purchase' (key phrase in consumer law). That said we are keeping this product to use since our very old Russian tank kettle from Costco experienced whistle death and could not be resuscitated aka future flower pot or sonar target lol 3Good kettle when used properlyIt used to be that everyone knew how to boil water. Now, enter technology it's more efficient, but slightly more complicated. This kettle boils water very efficiently, but requires more care in use because the bottom contains several dis-similar metals to increase heat transmission. Here are the things you should never do:1. Never allow it to boil dry, or heat it without water in it. Especially on electric stoves.2. Never place the hot kettle in a cold sink to fill it. Use a pitcher if the kettle is hot. Especially on electric stoves.3. Never place the empty, cold kettle on a hot burner. Especially on electric stoves. If kettle is empty but also hot, it's okay to do so.Finally it is best to develop the habit of always keeping it full when on the stove. That way, you will never turn the heat on under an empty kettle. And yes, it is noisier than a kettle without the "high tech" bottom. We find the sound pleasant. The whistle is loud enough without being shrill. 4Ergonomics of pouring are not goodThis is a larger than typical tea kettle. We were overall positive about the tea kettle given its solid construction and nice appearance. It has quite wide base that takes up more than a burner sized space. This does help heat water faster but could cause problems on a crowded stove top. The water pours smoothly from the spout, by comparison a Chantal Bend kettle we tried poured in splashes. The downside to this kettle that gave it the low marks for us is that ergonomically this a difficult kettle to pour. With my average male sized hands I found the kettle below average in pouring comfort. The wide base makes you want to pour from the side to avoid your forearm contacting the base. The silicone heat resistant grip works well, but the finger reach to the spout trigger is uncomfortably far. I could manage but I always feel like someone did not spend the time engineering how it handles pouring. It really is near impossible and quite unsafe for our 11 year old to pour this kettle. If it were not for the pouring ergonmics, I would have given 4 or 5 stars. As it is, the few cons are too big to give more than 2 stars.ProsThe kettle seems very well made. The wide base heats water very quickly.Whistles average to above average.Spout lever is smooth and solidLid works smoothlyWater pours smoothlyConsDifficult to pourSpout lever is a bit short for comfortable pouringImpossible to safely pour with small hands 2My Advice...Don'tI loved it 2 years ago when I bought it, but it didn't hold up very well. About 16 mos. in, and with daily morning use for instant coffee, the bottom seam surrounding the pot developed multiple small cracks that began to rust from tiny leaks when heated. The inside base developed rust stains also. I don't recall having an issue like this before with other pots, but then realized they were all SEAMLESS. That's the key. Now I'm going to look for a seamless pot without a coated lining, just a plain, molded stainless pot. 3Plated handle...I'm not too sure what exactly is stainless... maybe it's plated? Mine arrived damaged, with finished rubbed off the handle. Of course, no packing material around it, it's not too surprising there were issues. But look closely at the handle -- obviously it's not solid stainless steel, as the plating rubbed off. And even more interesting -- there appears to be ANIMAL hair sticking out of the bottom. Doesn't exactly make me feel confident about it's ability to hold water... Wow... 1Best Teakettle I've owned, and i tried two or three before! After ruining a few tea kettles (who had handles, mouths, lid knobs that melted on first use from just a bit of typical steam) -- I decided to go with a more expensive model. This arrived in a plain box, has a nice high quality metal with a high polish chrome finish (easy to clean), nice silicone grips, and hasn't melted yet through more than 2 years of use. My sister in law fell in love with it the minute she saw it at my house ... and I bought one for her too!At first I was concerned that I saw a tiny bit of what appeared to be rust under the lid where the knob is welded on the inside, and was worried with it being a high moisture environment it would rust in the future. I rubbed the inside of the lid with a bit of oil just incase, and buffed it out. I've never had any problems, it still looks gorgeous.I will say if you leave water inside of it (as suggested by some who leave theirs out on the stove and didn't want to risk it getting hot during an accidental burner being turned on) -- and you don't use it often (I only use mine every few months), it will mold ... however it's easy to clean up with soap and hot water. 5Broke on 2nd useI am very disappointed in the quality of the kettle after using this twice, water leaks from the base of the spout. When the water is poured, it does not completely come out of the spout, it pours also out of the base of the lever/valve to the spout. Water then continues to drip and dribble down the side of the kettle when not in use.I was so in love with the esthetics of the kettle. I still think it looks pretty, but I do not like the function at all.I would not recommend purchase of this product. Very upset. 1I'm giving you a history so you can understand we're pretty well-versed in tea potsWe're tea and french press coffee drinkers so we needed a tea pot that heats up quickly and can withstand the constant use. My last tea pot, a gift, was an enameled COPCO and that fell apart within the year. Prior to that I bought an expensive electric tea kettle which lasted about 3 years, and prior to that I had a stainless steel one which I had for 10 years but had decided to switch to an electric (not sure why!). I'm giving you a history so you can understand we're pretty well-versed in tea pots. After much research again, I decided on this one and we have been very happy. The Pros: it heats up very fast, holds a lot of water, whistles loudly, the silicone handle is heat resistant, feels substantial. Personal cons: stainless looks nice but a pain to keep clean (just like appliances; thought I was buying the white enamel one but didn't), and would prefer it be smaller-it's large and holds a lot of water. I would like a smaller visual presence on my stove but that's personal preference only. Other than that, I would highly recommend it for the pros listed above, and hopefully, it will last 10 years plus like my last stainless did. 5great value!!A couple of years ago a neighbor hooked us up with a Saladmaster demonstration and we were impressed with the cookware but not the price. Since then we've replaced our old pans one by one with surgical steel and carbon steel pans from Amazon. When our old tea pot gave out this is the surgical steel one I found and all I can say is WOW, I seriously love it!! We got a lot of sediment at the bottom of the old tea pot but with this new one, the water stays perfectly clear and you can really taste the difference in the tea. The flavor is much cleaner and sharper than with the old pot. This is a super high quality tea pot and I highly recommend it! 5Not surgical stainless steel. Made so poorly the product is very dangerous.Dangerously poorly made product. Pieces of metal from the boiling chamber started coming off into boiling water almost immediately and I only detected it after a couple of weeks when I poured the water in a clear glass. Whistle doesn't work well either, makes a half-whistle sound that is not piercing nor loud. Handle is also way too hot to touch after water has boiled. WAY too hot. And even worse, the little thin rubber handle bits are only partially covering the metal underneath, so one false move and you've got yourself a serious instant flashburn.Very, very angry about how poorly this item is made. I've had some cheap crap come out of China with false advertising and poor workmanship but this one really takes the cake. Did I mention it arrived loose in a dirty and unmarked cardboard box, with no manual, vendor, brand, warranty information, or even retail packaging? You can't get lower on the quality ladder than this. 1
