Highly recommended and an incredible value.. 5Needs To Be Sharper Don t know much about hedge clippers but I expected these clippers to be stronger & sharper. The shrub limbs in my flower bed took more than one cut to clip them off. My hands were worn out from have to gnaw on the limbs. I have a larger clipper that is bulkier & heavier to use but at least it snips the limbs the first time. 3Cadillac of Hand Pruning Shears Spring is here and when dragging out my box of hand pruners that have accumulated throughout the years, I decided to research and treat myself to a really good pair. The Haus and Garten Pruning Shears stood out among the others so I thought I'd give them a try. Hey, what was the harm of one more pair to add to my overflowing box?But I have found them to be exactly as touted and they do a wonderful job of pruning my 25+ roses, pruning my many old Peony bushes and pruning the 20 miniature fruit trees of every variety that we grow here. We live in the middle of 20 acres surrounded by trees and our actual fenced yard is at least an acre large, stuffed with every imaginable tree, bush, flowering plant and vine imaginable so I desperately needed a work horse of a hand held pruner for the tasks that never end.All of our fruit trees have branches to trim that are too small for our long handled pruners as they just seem to twist when I try to cut them, but the Haus and Garten shears are absolutely perfect. They cut sharply with no crunched or ragged end. My hands are fairly small but are able to grip these just fine and my husband loves the nice big cushioned grip, too. So nice and sharp and I'm careful to keep them cleaned and oiled. They came with a little wrench to adjust the tension and also the tightness of the locking closure toggle.These shears are heavier than any of the others that I have and are so well made and of such a good quality. I'm very very pleased with my purchase and would recommend them to anyone who does extensive pruning. I think that the problem now will be fighting my spouse for the use of them....maybe I'll just get another pair! 5No good I don't like these at all. They have a nice sharp blade and work just fine but are completely ruined by the poorly designed locking lever. I have had other pruners with this same vexing problem but these are the worst and have caused me to waste my time. I went out with my new pruners to tackle about half a ton of ivy and within a few minutes knew that this tool was not up to the task. The locking lever is loose and swings closed after many cuts. A real blast when I'm leaning at an awkward angle and want to make several cuts but have to use both hands because I have to unlock the silly thing every time. So I get my tools. Can't tighten the screw that holds that lock lever in place. Lovely. Remove the screw and find the hole is tapped too shallow. Splendid. So I dig around and find a washer that fits, place it, screw it back together. Back outside. Loosening up right away. Groovy. Should've used a lock washer but I don't have one of the correct size. I'll try some Loctite this time and if these things keep messing with me I'm going to send them back. I just don't have time for lousy product failures like this as I get older.Oh, forgot to mention. The lock lever is also barely adequate for keeping the blades closed as well. Popped open in my pocket and tore my shorts.Actually, my free time is more valuable than the time it would take to return these. They are going in the trash - maybe the junk drawer if I have a change of heart.Pretty, sharp. But fail. 2Works poorly/costs too much I opted to buy these particular shears because of the favorable reviews. That was not my experience, I am disappointed with these pruning shears. I'm an older woman with large hands yet these still feel clumsy and very hard to cut with (stems over 3/8-inch diameter took A LOT of effort to cut--the blades obviously will have to be sharpened--at additional expense). . Unfortunately, the shears I've owned for the past 20+ years have been misplaced or lost. Those had a straight cutting blade and a lever to open/close that was easy to operate which I could (and did) by "feel". The open/close lever on these highly-touted shears is very poorly designed. It does have a bump on the lever itself, but it is worthless because there's a screw head (immediately to the right of the open/close lever) which sticks up higher than the "bump". Further, the screw head was very poorly machined with such rough edges I was forced to wear gloves to protect the skin on my thumb. Hard not to be cynical when well-made products are an exception, not the rule. 2Excellent product for DIY gardening This pruning shears is obviously a high-quality gardening tool. It has a comfortable, adjustable (a little tricky) grip and ergonomic construction for easy use and little fatigue. Just by appearance and one use, you want to take care of it to keep it for a long time, which means cleaning and lubricating the blades, just as you would any bladed tool.my only negative observation is that it comes with an enigmatic little "tool" that I nearly overlooked and threw out after extricating the shears from the tough plastic wrapping. It doesn't look like a tool - three holes, two of which are hexagonal (they fit over the hex nuts on the shears, I reckon) and a round opening for the gear-like adjusting mechanism. No instructions and not intuitive as to how to use it. I wrote the manufacturer (Haus & Garten) and got two very pleasant replies referring me to a video on the website. That video shows how to prune (duh), but nothing about how to make grip/opening adjustments. Sort of a letdown for an otherwise very good product. I don't need to adjust the grip, but if I did... 5Good product, good company Very well crafted gardening tool. Haus & Garten also followed up with a phone call to make sure the product arrived on time and in good condition. The shears are a little on the small side for someone with large hands (the handles could be about an inch longer.I will definitely consider purchasing other Haus & Garden products in the future. 5Do not buy I never review products but want folks to know this a cheaply made product. First time use and was cutting thin 1/2 inch Palm tree stalks (which are moist) and the blade chipped. Purchase a cheaper priced pruner to save money. Not worth the cost. 1
