    Good Coffee - No Bitterness I bought a 5lb bag of the Poor Man's Blend - just made my first pot. I think this is a good, somewhat above average, coffee. Certainly worth the excellent price! It is not an exceptional cup, but I wouldn't expect that from any "blend".I drink a lot of coffee, at least one full 12 cup pot every day. I like it strong and I only drink it black, so no chance to cover up bad tastes. I find no bitterness or acidic taste to this coffee at all, and I even brewed this first pot a bit stronger than I usually do (based on the level of the beans in the grinder). The beans do not have a particularly strong or heady smell (somewhat disappointing), but they do have a fresh appearance, as opposed to some garbage brands that are bought several years old for pennies on the dollar.I am not a coffee connoisseur or "snob", but I certainly know what I like, and I offer the following information only to help any reader decide if my review might be meaningful to their specific tastes: First of all, I am frugal, probably even "cheap". I have found many excellent coffees over the years, but I just won't pay the usually stupid high prices to drink them every day., so I am always on the lookout for a new find at an excellent price. Coffees I generally find excellent include Blue Mountain, Jamaican, Ethiopian, and Honduran. I am not a particular fan of Kona beans, but most anything from Kauai is excellent. I prefer a dark roast, but I absolutely DETEST anything sold by Starjokes, and I will not drink that garbage even if it is free. Burnt dirt is NOT an acceptable flavor. No "flavored" coffee is ever acceptable - even the smell of them makes me gag. 4It was not a bad batch it really is bad coffee. Really terrible OK So I don't know how to rate this so I am rating just the last bag I bought. I've purchased it many times and liked it more than more expensive coffee. This last bag is so terrible I cannot wait to get rid of it all. I am not even mixing it with better coffee like I normally would to get rid of sub par coffee because I'm sure it will contaminate that coffee too. This bag is so rough and woody/sandy tasting I have to make it weak just to gag it down. I will not be giving it another shot so I'll never know if it was just one bad bag or if it is all going to be this terrible. AND THE WORST PART is that I cannot even complain to friends because when they hear the name they say "well what did you expect?"OK so I bought a batch of Eyes Wide Open and it is just as bad as the other kind. I give up no more of this terrible coffee 1I wanted to like this coffee I wanted to like this coffee. I needed something to wake me up, as my usual Sprouts brand coffee just wasn't cutting it. This is very acidy. For me, too much acid makes my stomach hurt and makes me nauseous. It also doesn't taste good. It definitely wakes me up--but I can only handle a few sips before feeling sick. I end up leaving my cup mostly full. Unfortunately, I will not be buying this again. 1Very sad that I was left with 5 lbs of this ... this is just about the weakest coffee I have ever purchased. Very sad that I was left with 5 lbs of this stuff that basically produced the effect of hot water and brown crayons. 1Yukky Yuk i guess once you go italian roast expresso you cant go back, the eyes wide open was anything but and has a taste of kinda like a mohca instant....mixing it in just to get rid of it 1Debated after reading reviews and decided I should decide for ... Debated after reading reviews and decided I should decide for myself. I will not reorder, coffee was very weak and if we doubled up on the amount it was bitter. My husband who usually never comments on the coffee said the beans looked very dry and old when he grind them. 13 bad bags in a row, means I'm done... I've been a Coffee Bean Direct (CBD) fan for a few years, but they just lost a long time customer.The last 3 bags of coffee I've received have been trash, 2 Colombian Supremo and one Kona blend.The coffee tastes like nothing, I couldn't even get it to run through my Bunn without grinding on the biggest grind. It ends up with a slew of chaff and bland coffee.I've received bags of coffee that had a bad roast and you power through it or never go back to the brand. I've never had this from CBD though. So I was much dismayed after 3 bags of the same.I even contacted CBD directly, the worst part was they offered me $5 off a $50 bag of coffee if I bought from them directly! I just spent $150 on 3 bags of horrid coffee, i've been a customer of theirs spending about $50/month on their coffee for over 3 years...and their response is spend another $50 and we will give you $5 off? Haha...yeah it was a good run. I'm out.I cannot support a company with no customer service. 1Bad coffee Terrible coffee. I enjoyed several varieties but the eyes wide open blend and this krona blend were just bad. Dull, dry beans with no oil that turn to dust when ground. Avoid this one! 1One Star Terrible flavor. Very disappointing. Wasted our money! Going back to Italian Roast. 1Not what I hoped for While not the worst I've tasted, and certainly not the most expensive, I didn't find this to be worth the price compared to others available at around the same price. This blend appears to be a combination of beans remaining from other roasts that are then combined to make this blend - of which I love the concept. I manually brew, so I tried different grinds, different water temperatures, and even different amounts of grounds, and I really couldn't find a way to enjoy this coffee. I may try another one of their blends or coffee, but I will never try this blend again or recommend it to anyone. I have experience with their teas, and have been very satisfied. 1
