Leaves so much crystals behind! Upon moving this grinder when not grinding, leaks lots of crystals. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this product despite the price if you are using an expensive salt or annoyed by stuff dropping in your kitchen/dining room. Normally deserves 1 star, reason of second star is the price. 2Love Love Love This pepper mill is so sturdy. It is smooth finish. Has great weight, not flimsy. The operation is superb. It grinds easy and perfectly. Adjusts easily. I have owned several pepper mills in different materials and styles. I love that the grinding mechanism will not grate plastic into my food like the cheapers ones do. When I can afford it I am buying the matching salt mill. I think this mill will last a long long time with proper care. So glad I purchased it. 5Handsome and functional No complaints, does exactly what it says it does, product arrived free of damage.Small update: -2 stars the attractive dark finish quickly began to erode after exposure to moisture. Take care that you don't leave this grinder resting on any surfaces that are even remotely wet, or that bottom edge will wick up the moisture and begin to crack. It wasn't like I submerged this thing, either. Disappointing that a kitchen product would react this poorly to a little countertop water. 3Works great--plenty of salt. I bought this after buying and being disappointed in the Clifton set from Cole & Mason (the DKB Household company that distributes Cole & Mason products in this country was very responsive and good to deal with), mainly because of the inefficiency of grinding and the poor working of the coarseness adjustment, meaning you had to turn the grinder a lot to get a reasonable amount of salt and the coarseness adjustment was close to nonresponsive. But this grinder is just the opposite. I have it set on coarse grind using Himalayan salt, and it sends a wall of salt down with each turn. I've barely tried it on fine adjustment, but it did seem to work well on that, too. The top adjustment screw does loosen gradually with use, but is extremely easy to just tighten back down a bit and this is a total non-issue. It does leave a small residue of salt on your table or shelf when set down after being used, but it's easy to remember to just tap it a couple times to clear most of this before putting it back on the shelf. Again, to me, this is a total non-issue in comparison to how well it works. Filling it is easy, and its size, especially circumference which determines how well it fits in the hand and hence how easy it is to turn, is excellent. The wood that it's made out of gives it good coefficient of friction, so your hand doesn't slip when turning, even when moist. I'd guess the circumference of the base and top is just right for both men and women's hands. It's nice enough looking, just like in the picture. It's a pleasure to have found a salt grinder that works this well. 5Overpriced but still a good purchase I am giving 4 out of 5 because of value for money. I fully admit that I knowingly paid for an overpriced pepper mill. However, it's not because I like brand name stuff; I couldn't find anything cheaper that fit my criteria of size, shape, and color. It does a good job at what it is supposed to do. No complaints there. The grinding mechanism is steel, which is nice. The finish on the grinder is smooth and comfortable. It holds plenty of peppercorns for many months of home cooking or perhaps a few weeks of professional work. I expect this to last. Honestly, now that I think about it, I do think I would make this purchase again if I had to, since I plan on getting lots of use out of it. Still 4 stars though, because it only costs this much because it's Cole & Mason. You could find just as good a grinder for cheaper if you aren't as aesthetically picky as I.One tip while filling it: you're gonna want tp use a funnel when filling it with peppercorns. However, the steel rod that goes from the top to the bottom is very wobbly when the cap is off, which means that it's almost impossible to add peppercorns without pushing the rod against the side of the reservoir instead of keeping it dead center. No worries. Just be sure not to fill it will the way up; leave about an inch and a half of room at the top. Then, put the top on and loosely install the top screw (note: there will be tension against that steel rod because the peppercorns are trying to trap it to the sidewall). Gently shake the grinder up and down so the peppercorns rearrange and free the rod to move back to the center. :)I included a photo near other items for scale. 4Great looking, affordable grinder that grinds very well. Grind setting can slip very slightly over time I got this + a tall pepper grinder and am in love with both. They do tend to "leak" a little bit, but I think this is pretty standard of this style of grinder. I just keep them on a small tray in the kitchen which is easy to clean every so often.I'm particularly surprised by how finely the salt grinder is able to grind. You can adjust it to grind to a super fine powder, which is actually a bit too fine for most purposes, but having that range of options is really nice. Unfortunately, the grind is set by turning tightening the cap screw, which can slip a little bit after grinding, so you may need to readjust occasionally. I think this is a consequence of needing to keep the assembly simple in order for these to be (relatively) cheap, and so it doesn't really bother me much. They look very fancy and grind well, so these two issues aren't really enough to sour me on the grinders as a whole. 4Buyer beware As many people have commented, removing the SKU label damages the finish. Work around... I spayed on three coats of Rust-Oleum. Buyer beware. 1Impressed, given the price When I first started searching for a new salt mill, I thought that I was going to have to spend $40+ to get a good looking and quality mill. I decided to take a chance on this one and am very glad that I did. The wood is beautiful and it is extremely easy to open and fill with salt and adjust the grinding size. The details page doesn't mention that the mill is adjustable, but it is. You adjust the grinding simply by how loose (coarse) or tight (fine) you secure the top. The top screw also has a small S or P to distinguish between salt and pepper if you buy the matching one. It's not a sticker, so you will need to buy the salt or pepper version as necessary to get the right letter. I was so impressed by this that I decided to get the matching pepper mill too. 5Beautiful & Effective Kitchen Addition This grinder is a beautiful addition to our kitchen and serves its purpose very well. The silver piece at the top unscrews very easily for a quick refill, and there aren't a bunch of moving parts. Simple, elegant, and effective.Much like other people have mentioned, I wish there weren't so much salt on the counter after it's been sitting. But if you give it a few good shakes after you're done grinding, much of the leftovers can be prevented!Overall, my husband and I love it and use it multiples times on a daily basis! 5Looks like a 5 Star steak house pepper grinder! After my first order was shown as delivered but never received, Amazon didn't bat an eye and sent me out another, 100% free of additional charge. Customer first service is why I shop Amazon. As to the Pepper Grinder? SUPERB! Beautiful and well crafted, this grinder would be right at home in any 5 star Prime Steak House, yet just as at home under a Palapa next to a charcoal BBQ. Perfect size, shape and texture to be ground by a professional waiter or a clumsy husband. Highly recommended. 5
