Customer Reviews

Very Nice Island-Cart, However.....***UPDATE*** ***UPDATE II*** Very Nice Island-Cart. Looks Great and is very functional.I found the instructions to be very clear. One note to the "Guys" out there that don't read instructions, Read and Follow the instructions! I am one if those guys. I started the build by looking over the instructions then doing it my way, bad idea.Once I went step by step, everything lined up. Everything fit as it should. It is a very sturdy, good looking build. It took me all of 4 hours to put together, taking my time. Make sure you have all of your tools available before you start. I wasted time looking for things during the build. So why did I deduct one star? The Stainless Steel Top is not very durable.I had this together in time for Thanksgiving and used it. The top scratches very easily. In retrospect, I should have gotten a granite top. We have SS Appliances so I figured this would fit in. I also figured the SS top would clean up easily and be easy to care for. It is all of that, it just scratches really easy and now looks worn out after a week.If I could buy another top, I would.Functionally, it is great. Plenty of room in the cabinets and draws. This addresses a weakness in my kitchen. It is solid hard wood of some type with an Oak finish. It is rather heavy and there isn't any particle board.Overall I am very happy with it, the wife loves it and our friends are impressed.Update:Here we are prox. a month after the purchase and I just sent an email to the mfg."Hello,I purchased Home Styles 9200-1062 Create-a-Cart 9200 Series Cabinet Kitchen Cart Stainless Steel Top, Cottage Oak Finish from Amazon.com on November 19. I received it and assembled it for Thanksgiving. Overall I am happy with the Island, except for the SS top. I cooked Thanksgiving dinner and the aluminum roasting pan scratched the heck out of the top. I posted a review on Amazon Dec. 1 that is overall positive yet was remarked by another user that the top should be more robust. "http://www.amazon.com/Home-Styles-9200-1062-Create-Stainless/product-reviews/B003UGSZV2/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1"My question is, what is the policy for replacing the top or exchanging it for the granite top?It is unfortunate that after a month, the top looks terrible and it ruins the appearance of the otherwise very good looking Island.ThanksGeorge"We will see how they respond.RESPONSE:I contacted the MFG, "Home Styles". Below is their response:Thank you for contacting home styles furniture. I am sorry to hear you are having issues with this item. Unfortunately you will need to contact Amazon.com for further instructions on any exchanges.I do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. Thanks,LaurenHome Styles FurnitureCustomer Service Rep."I then responded asking about warranty returns. We will see. This is not what I expected from the MFG.***UPDATE***Well it is Jan. 2016 and I never heard back regarding the warranty replacement of the top.For the past 3 and change years the cart has been great! I noticed that the top of the left side door broke making that hinge useless. Of course my extended warranty just expired......I just filled out a parts replacement form from their site. Lets see how this goes.***UPDATE II***Well, I have had email communication withVANESSA BUNDYHOME STYLES FURNITUREVBUNDY@DMIFURNITURE.COMThey do not sell replacement parts!!! If I was under warranty they would send me the part however since I am out of warranty, I am out of luck.FYI, keep your instructions. Apparently there is a "base model number it will be at the top of your instructions" that they need. If I had that, perhaps I would have received my door.I am amazed they can not get me the part.I now have total Junk! 2Easy I found that compared to most furniture I have had to put together that this one was fairly simple. Most of the small items like the railings for the drawers and stuff are preassembled. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, everything was labeled and the hardware comes presorted for easy identification. This took about two hours for me and my husband to assemble. You need two sets of hand, though most parts fit easily together some parts need to be held while the screws are being inserted.I am very pleased with it. 4The island is very nice, I didn't mount the casters because my wife ... The island is very nice, I didn't mount the casters because my wife didn't want it to move around. It moves a little from left to right, but it is solid when you stand directly in front of it. The construction and build instructions are awesome. We love it !! I was very nervous buying this online and not being able to actual feel how sturdy it is, but we are very happy with it. It is packaged very well and nothing was damaged. 5Attractive extra counter and storage space I have the oak bottom and the black granite top and it matches my Tebas black quartz countertops from Home Depot almost exactly, even the height. I switched out the handles with ones to match my cabinets to tie it together. It rolls easily and has plenty of storage. The only thing I would change is not to have the solid vertical partitions between the three sections of the cabinet so that I could fit more wide items inside spanning the sections. As others have mentioned the crate around the granite slab was beat up on arrival but the granite was fine. All parts were present and in good condition. Granite scratches more easily than quartz but so far the granite is fine with just regular care. Yes the drawers are shallow but are the perfect place to keep the instruction books for my appliances handy for when I forget how to use all their features! 5Seller Good, Product So So... For the price I was expecting something sturdier, plus the drawers do not open and close properly. It's obvious that the draws are not wide enough resulting in a mismatch between the drawer guides and the guides mounted in the cabinet. I have a couple other projects to finish then I plan to put in some shims to bring the drawer guides out a little bit. I think that will help. The center support between the drawers had to be replaced because the wood was split right out of the box. I also had to get a new granite top because it was damaged. I can say the seller was easy to work with to get the replacement parts and they shipped them out right away. The finished unit looks nice and matches out kitchen cabinets well. My wife complains that the black granite shows every smudge, smear and fingerprint. 3Great purchase! This is a very solid and mostly easy to assemble kitchen island. I've been putting together shelving and storage units together for years, and have never seen one so well made. It was also very well packaged for delivery without damage.Just a couple reasons why I did not give it 5 stars. It is not quite the color I was hoping for, with more red than brown; it seems to be their "Warm Oak" rather than "Cottage Oak". That was important to me because of the oak colors in my kitchen cabinets. And while the assembly instructions were fantastic, as others have indicated, there were several pieces that were not marked correctly. Fortunately, before assembling, I envisioned what the results would be. For instance, the very first piece -- one of the sides -- was marked as "B", when it actually should have been "D".Overall, I am extremely happy with the purchase, which added much-needed counter space and storage to my kitchen. 4Great looking kitchen island, but not perfect. Overall, it's a great looking piece. I gave it 4 stars for two reasons, the instruction manual is about as basic as they come and some parts just don't fit. Would be nice to have a bit more detail regarding each part and how they are to be laid out for assembly. For example, arrows to illustrate what's up, down, whatever so I know how the next panel is to be attached. I've built quite a few of these furniture-in-a-box products, but this one made me pause to insure it was built correctly. Something the instructions could have helped with.Second, the fit of the drawers is off. Because the drawers are preassembled with the sliding rails, there is very little to adjust. Between the two drawers is a wooden block that attaches via a wooden peg and a screw from the back of the cabinet. Directions either suggest the wrong screw or the hole for the screw is too small. In either case, fit was not what was expected. The drawers, when installed, are also crooked but straighten up once closed only to be crooked again when opened. Purely cosmetic, but that's kinda the reason for buying it. Would be great if they fixed this. 4It's decent enough but assembly was awful It took me 5 hours to assemble this. I'm an expert at such assembly; the problem wasn't that I'm clueless. I had to drill new holes, occasionally had to fill existing holes with wood putty before drilling the new ones so the screws wouldn't wobble. Some of the wood pieces were warped and needed to be straightened. The instructions failed to mention some of the assembly steps and left out critical pieces of other assembly steps. For example, the "rear stretcher" has to be installed with the counterbore on the outside; the instructions do not mention that. Assembling the drawers was particularly slow because every single pre-drilled hole was drilled in the wrong place. The instructions that came packaged inside the top are not the right instructions for installing the top. You have to ignore them, and follow one of the two sets of instructions packaged with the base unit (after figuring out which is the right set of instructions). On the good side, they did include an extra of nearly every kind of hardware. I've always wished that assemble-it-yourself furniture companies would do that. Of course, the one kind of screw for which they did not include an extra (drawer pull mount) was the one whose head had a manufacturing flaw and couldn't be used. After I got it assembled, it's reasonably nice. I have it in a beach cottage, where its level of quality and sophistication matches everything else. The drawers aren't deep enough to hold kitchen tools or measuring cups. But I'll cope. It is sturdy and looks pretty good and it's the right size.It is too heavy to be made of real wood. Only particle board is that heavy. I'm not going to saw a piece open to look inside, but I'm sure the big pieces have a particle-board core. 3high quality piece of furniture My husband and I have had a lot of experience with assemble-it-yourself furniture and we both agree that this was the best experience we have ever had. The parts were all clearly labeled and the steps made it easy to put together. The cabinet doors were a snap to install and everything fit together with precision. We are very impressed with the quality of all the components. Even the caps to cover the screw holes are real wood and round out the finished look perfectly. We love our kitchen island and are very pleased that we chose this unit. Very pleased. As for the stainless steel top - it is gorgeous and I have no plans of doing any cutting on it.We highly recommend this for anyone looking for high quality at a reasonable price. 5Great Product, but be prepared for shipment headaches Great Product, but be prepared for shipment headachesI finally have mine assembled and it looks great and fits beautifully in the kitchen! The good:1. It is sturdy and solid. Looks great and not cheap looking.2. Wood is great3. Granite is nice, but thin (still heavy, so I wouldn't be able to lift it if it was thicker)4. Casters are solid and easy to re-position around the kitchen5. Assembly instructions are generally well thought out, starting with assembling the casters to the bottom and building upwardThe medium:1. The cart is divided in 3 parts. The center one is nice and big (fits my Kitchenaid stand mixer), but the two side ones are quite narrow, so not as much fits in those. I almost wish it was divided in two and I could just fit two bigger things. The bad:1. It is so heavy that during shipment, not much care is taken that the granite won't crack or break. My first shipment came with a crack in the granite (yes, I had two shipments) . For the second one, I was convinced it was broken before I opened the box because when lifting on one end, it bent some. Amazingly, all the wood framing was broken, cracked and splintering in many places, but the granite itself was intact!2. The box for the granite is built around it with a bit less wood than needed. To open it, you have to break it apart, so to return it (if necessary), Amazon had to hire someone to come box it up and ship it back. This is a pain because they only give a 4 hour window to be there.3. My granite of my first shipment came with a crack in it (I have seen other reviews like that). Not sure if it was damaged during shipment or before. One of the drawers had the screw leading hole curved and the wood cracked, so I needed a replacement.4. I called the manufacturer and they said that they don't send out parts, so I needed to call Amazon. Amazon said that they don't send out parts, so they sent me a whole new set (two boxes). I had to go through the box looking for the parts for the drawer (nice that they have the drawer parts in a secondary smaller box inside the big box). I tried to replace just the face, but nothing lined up perfectly and the drawers would not close, so I had to assemble the drawers in their entirety from the new set, as neither drawers from the first set would close properly once I replaced the granite.Once new granite was in and new drawers were made, I love it... but it was a pain to get here! 4
