She loved painting the potPurchased as a Christmas gift for my 3 1/2 year old daughter, and it was a hit. She loved painting the pot, which is made of lightweight white plastic and comes with a few paint colors and a brush. We added the potting mix, decorated the "garden", and added the seeds. The best part about this kit for young children is the seed selection... it is instant gratification for young ones with little patience, as these seeds sprout and are visible within a week. The seeds are wheat grass and some assorted beans.The grass grows first, while the beans take a bit longer, but soon the beans are taller than the grass. It's been about 3 weeks now since we planted this, and it's really taken off. My daughter loves seeing how tall her plants are getting. Great gift, I highly recommend it! 5Lots of fun despite cheap quality (Seriously)I purchased this as a birthday gift for our 5-yr old daughter. She loves to plant and garden with me, so this seemed like a good opportunity to have a little garden of her own featuring some of her favorite enchanted creatures.Cons:As someone who spends a fair amount of time playing in the dirt, I was a bit disappointed in the contents of the "garden" part of the garden. At a price point of over $20, this garden featured a plastic, shallow pot with no drainage; a below average potting soil mix that didn't absorb water quickly; and a seed mix that was primarily cheap wheatgrass with a few beans. In this reviewer's opinion, not much bang for your buck. I think children would get a much better experience if the seller provided herb garden seeds with a decent container and media; however, the description is reasonably accurate so you essentially know what you're getting - it just isn't a good value for the quality.Pros:She's five. What does she care about the absorption rate of soil media? About as much as I care to watch My Little Pony Friendship is Magic for the thousandth time, but she (we?) had a blast decorating the container and all the accessories. She was thrilled when the seeds quickly sprouted in a couple days (admittedly, wheatgrass is a good option when you consider germination time), and it gave us another opportunity to discuss the growing cycle. Ironically, the container without any drainage holes gave me a chance to talk to her about the importance of drainage and how most plants will get sick and die if they sit in water for prolonged periods. I'd say this product gave us about ten days of fun and learning before it lost the "shiny" kids (and grownups) love.To sum, it made my little girl happy and that makes me happy, but the hardened consumer in me still longs for a higher quality product or a lower price point. While I won't buy this again, I don't regret the initial purchase. In fact, we kept the fairy accessories and they were even upgraded to a new home that isn't in the flood zone. This also gave me a chance to teach her about 100-yr floodplains, FEMA and insurance rates. Just kidding, she already knew. How do you think the fairy could afford that new earthbox condo? 3Not as good as the box makes it look, but still goodThese looked really cute and I have two daughters aged 7 and 3-1/2 so I bought two. All in all, both kids were very happy to spend an hour and a half painting their fairy garden pieces, arranging their garden and planting the seeds. The box suggests ages starting at 7, but my 3-1/2 old did fine and she loves it. However:Most of us parents should know that no product in the box ever looks as good as the picture on the box. This is certainly true for the Wee Enchanted Fairy Garden. Especially for the fairy herself. The fairy comes painted already and the faces are really not done well at all. My 7 year old's fairy really is quite ugly and she noted it as soon as it came out of the box. My 3 year old didn't say anything, but hers was better (not good, but better).One of my boxes came without the little paint-able glass stones. And instead of one large and one small mushroom, it came with 2 large mushrooms. Not a huge deal in my house because I happen to have lots of the glass stones with one flat side from another project we did ages ago.Also, as others noted, the starter soil that comes with the box really did look like it wasn't enough, so I used my own potting soil and filled it to the top. The instructions also suggest that you might want to use half the seeds now, and half later to prolong the life of the garden. I didn't bother, I dumped them all in. There are plenty of seeds, but I don't know how you could get such a full looking garden as on the box using only half the seeds. 4Quick growing!!Fantastic!! Easy and fun to prepare with pretty results. Grows like CRAZY!! In the picture, it's about a month old. 5Lots of fun!Bought for a 6-year-old, 10-year old, and 16-year old sisters for a craft project. I even made one with them. They enjoyed it and so did I. The decorations are adorable. All items were intact in the boxes. It took us about 3 hours to complete. It all depends on how much you decorate painting and the paint needed more than one coat on the resin figures for the perfect color. We even sprinkled the fairy dust on the wet painted objects to make them sparkle. We also painted the clear stones as the directions suggests with little flowers that magnify when you turn them over and sprinkled them with fairy dust. Added a little miracle grow topsoil and they took off. 5Exciting and Dissapointed!Purchased this for my grand daughter for her birthday. She did enjoy painting all the pieces and putting it together and very excited to see the seeds sprout. The entire dish was prominently displayed on the kitchen table and was quite pretty. After a few weeks the paint started cracking on the dish (it's plastic and the paint is Not designed for such). Then the plants started to die because they don't give you enough dirt. While it was there she never became bored, continually caring for the plants and checking them daily. She was sad when it had to be thrown in the trash! We did save all the pieces and will create another one with another pot more suited with plenty of dirt. Overall the experience was positive and would recommend. 4Looks nice, but smells bad!I bought this as a gift for my 5 year old daughter. She had a blast painting everything and planting the seeds. Surprisingly, in just a few days the seeds had already started to sprout. However, after a few more days we started noticing a foul odor in the room (smelled like dirty laundry). The smell was strong enough to permeate my daughter's room. We quickly determined that the smell was emanating from the garden. I have no idea what is causing the smell but we had to move the garden to a larger room where the smell is less noticeable. If the smell continues we'll need to throw the whole thing away. 2The figurines diny stand up straight and I don t feel like there was enough soil to plant the seeds below ...This stinks! My daughter painted the bowl and accessories and we followed the directions to a T when it came to planting. This fairy planter really grew great! My 8yr old daughter loves it. We bought DIY planters but the seeds never grew out. This one really grew fast & tall in only 5 days & still growing. Just 8 hrs in sun then I set aside at night & then water everyday in the morning. I water letting the water drip off my fingers so the soil won t get to wet. Just moist. Comes with a lot off seeds. You don t need to use whole bag. Since our planter grew we are adding more seeds for more fullness. Will update post. This makes a great gift. Will buy again.UPDATE: Since my last review the plant started dying a little. So we added more seeds & Today 5/7/2019 plant grew out more & still holding up well. 5I wanted to love this SO badly, but...I want to love this so badly! We got this for our daughter for Christmas and she LOVED it. It s a great, hands-on creative gift. Teachable moments while putting it together and she enjoyed decorating it on her own, but with that said I had to give it two stars for two reasons...1.. nothing is growing... NOTHING! I water it daily with a spray bottle so I don t over water and it has been in front of a window since she put it together. I helped her plant the seeds with the very little soil given. I m guessing there isn t enough soil, and if I added more it would probably grow. Unfortunately, I love in Minnesota and soil isn t easy to come by in January lol.2. The quality is cheap! Really cheap! 2
