Customer Reviews

Best coffeemaker ever I have lost count of how many of these coffeemakers I have owned - four or five, I think. Why so many? Because they work GREAT, but only for about 3 years of daily home use. This last one lasted about 38 months, and then the hot plate rusted through. An earlier one had the switch go bad. Etc. Still, I am considering purchasing yet another one because IT MAKES SUCH DELICIOUS COFFEE. Really. And, the price point for this lifespan is totally reasonable for an appliance that gets daily use - sometimes multiple times a day. Also, I really like the easy-to-read water gauge level INSIDE the reservoir. 5Sturdy, simple and reliable; makes good coffee. The stainless steel carafe is shatter proof. I had one of these coffee makers for a long time - at least 10 years - until it finally gave out. It had worked so well I bought another one to replace it. Cuisinart hasn't changed the design at all except for the off/on switch, which is improved. Be advised that it only makes four 5 ounce cups, as clearly stated in the instruction manual. Be careful when inserting the plug. It's easy to trip the circuit breaker in a protected socket with your thumb. If your coffee maker won't turn on, check the outlet! The machine is so easy to use that my legally blind 99 year old father can operate it. The pause switch works well if you keep it clean. If you drop coffee grounds behind the filter, they can prop the switch open. The cleaning instructions in the manual are accurate, but not very clear. DO wash the carafe, lid and filter basket with warm, soapy water after each use. (Disregard the old wives' tale that you should never do that.) DO NOT put the carafe or lid in the dishwasher. If you do, the lid will shrink and loosen and forever leak. Use only vinegar to descale, not citric acid.My main complaint is that the hot plate shuts off too soon and the carafe cools down prematurely. Drink quickly! A minor annoyance is that the lifting handle rotates only 90 , making cleaning a bit difficult. 4Stainless pot perfect for RVs. Could be hotter. Got this for the RV based on recommendations from other campers. Steel pot, no broken glass. 4 cup limit, which means one large cup for me and that's perfect. I'm tired of cleaning the french press, so hopefully this will return convenience. I plan to use a 16.7 oz. bottle of water every day.I would have given it 5 stars, but you folks at Cuisinart could have included ONE filter to test it right away? Now, I need to go to the store for filters first.UPDATE: I've lived with it for a few weeks now and use it every day. I like it a lot. No bells and whistles, but I just want one cup in the morning, and a bottle of water is the perfect size.My big nitpick is the coffee could be hotter. I now put the last half in the microwave for 45 seconds to reheat it.Easy clean up, simple to operate.Be aware that to coffee makers, a cup is 4 oz. So my morning brew is 4 cups or 16 oz.UPDATE 2: Now that I've had it for months, I can't give it up to the RV. I'll be buying a second one for that.Simple, decent coffee, easy cleanup. 4Can't Always Depend on a Cuisinart! I bought the Cuisinart coffeemaker several years ago in a local department store. I loved it and had absolutely no issues with it. Therefore, when it was time to buy a new coffeemaker I decided to purchase the identical coffeemaker through Amazon (July 1, 2017) since I couldn't find one in any of the local department stores. Initially, it was great but then the carafe started leaking at the seam. More recently, when I fill the coffee filter basket with coffee and turn the coffeemaker on the coffee clogs, creating a mess on my kitchen counter. Needless to say, I will not be buying another Cuisinart coffeemaker. 1Great Coffee Brewer For One I have a black one that is around 7 years old and a red one that is 3 years old. Neither have failed me. I just bought the red one for fun. Brightens the morning. For those who complain about the 30 minute shut off my solution is to hit the start button again when I get my second cup so that my last cup is hot. If the light is on I just turn the machine off and on again. Been doing this for years. Makes excellent coffee. I use a quality coffee -- drip grind or grind it myself to that consistency. Peets is what I buy. I also purchased the gold filter for convenience-- I forget to buy paper filters-- and deal with the clean up which isn't that onerous. My experience is that this is a very reliable coffee maker. It is nice to have two in case of company. I usually have two different blends on hand so I can serve two different coffees. I think some of the complaints are a little picky. There is no universally perfect coffee maker out there. 5Excellent and Affordable Small Coffee Maker I bought this Cuisinart coffee maker for my office. I wanted to avoid the costly coffee pods that a Keurig would use. This Cuisinart maker does an effective job of making coffee. It's brew temperature is more than hot enough. The burner turns off automatically after 30 minutes which is a nice safety feature. The carafe is metal so it won't break if dropped. If you make a full pot/carafe, which claims to be 4 cups, it actually is more like 2 regular sized cups/mugs of coffee. For me alone in my office, that is fine. It is somewhat noisy for a bit during brewing, but only for a minute or so as the water brews through. So don't expect it to be a silent coffee maker. Again, I am in my office alone so not an issue for me. Don't put this machine under an overhanging cabinet as steam comes out of the during brewing. This would be a safe coffee pot for a small apartment or college dorm room. And because you are using #2 cone filters and your own ground coffee, you avoid the exorbitant cost of Keurig coffee pods. You can more easily compost your used coffee grounds with the Cuisinart 4 cup coffee pot. 5Drip (brewing) has another definition I have purchased three of these coffeemakers over the past 10 years. Given the daily use, I suppose the average life-span is okay. The previous coffeemakers simply stopped working. I would have rated them as a four.My experiences with Cuisinart products has been a mixed bag, sort of like paying for the name without the anticipated quality. My last purchase - just a few months ago - tells the story. The new coffeemaker has a lid that snaps into place onto the metal carafe, as it should; brews the coffee to my satisfaction, as it should; but that is where my satisfaction ends. Pouring the coffee into my mug seemed to be a challenge that made me wonder, "Why did I buy this?" The answer was clear - because of previous satisfaction. However, the new iteration has a built-in flaw. One cannot pour coffee without having a puddle on the counter top no matter how carefully the brew is poured from the carafe.Fortunately for me, I retained the two previous carafes and replaced the new with the old. Hooray - the coffee pours without incident. An inspection of the carafe reveals a very slight difference in the dimensions at the top; nearly invisible if one does not know what to look for.Seems the new model is slightly larger than the old, and I mean slight with the "lip" a bit lower around the outer circumference. Sorry if that confuses anyone - but it is the best I can come up with. Therefore, my rating for the coffeemaker being marketed has dropped from a four to a one, which is generous on my part.I do not recommend this unit for the reasons mentioned. 1Makes good coffee. My experience has been good except for Makes good coffee. My experience has been good except for: If top is not pushed down completely the coffee will not drain and will spill over. I am used to it but when others are at the home and try to make coffee, they just close the top without pushing down and spill it.The most disappointing and the reason for the 2 rating is that the heating pad paint started to crack after 9 months and is quickly flaking away after less than one year. This product has not been abused and we use it once a day and do not keep the warmer plate on. The top lid design and warmer plate quality make the product not suitible, even though coffee is good. Expected more from this Cuisinart. 1Don't believe the negative reviews I previously owned a 12-cup coffeemaker, which actually was too large as I am the only coffee drinker in the house. Not only being too large for my use, it took up extra space on my counter because it was too tall to fit under the cabinets. As such, I was thinking of buying a smaller coffeemaker, but the one I had still worked very well so it didn't make sense to buy a new one. Then the carafe broke which opened up the possibility for me to purchase a smaller one. I read the previous reviews on this product, and I would disagree whole-heartedly with any of the negative reviews. For example, that the basket opens during brewing is in error because you need to snap the lid down before brewing. If you snap it in place, it will not open. Then I read that the carafe gets too hot, but why would you touch a hot carafe in the first place? It is made of stainless (thus unbreakable like glass carafes!) so would be very hot to the touch...DUH!! If you are looking for a smaller coffeemaker that works well and takes up less counter-top space than larger coffeemakers, this is the right coffeemaker for you. It's well constructed; definitely not made from cheap materials. It also feels very solid, much more so than my previous machine. I would highly recommend this to anyone. The only con I have is the carafe lid is a bit hard to take off the carafe; but that's such a minuscule negative that it really doesn't counter how great this coffeemaker really is. 5Not A Quality Product I love my larger 10 cup Cuisinart coffee maker, which led me to decide on this 4 cup model when I needed to replace another 4 cup brand that wore out. I trusted the Cuisinart brand, and went ahead and paid twice as much for this model that others cost. Out of the box, I thought the product seemed of inferior materials. The metal pot didn't seem of a substantial weight, and the interior workings under the lid of the coffeemaker seemed cheap. This is a pot that is used rarely, only at those times when I want a little more coffee during the day and don't want to load up the big pot. We also take it as a travel-pot when we go on trips. All in all, over the 2 years we have owned this pot, it has probably not been used more than a two or three dozen times. The last time I used it, the spring/drain mechanism under the filter basket was evidently stuck and coffee overflowed the basket. That was a mess to clean up, but I finally managed to unstick the spring and tried again, and it seemed OK. Then I put it away, and finally got it out yesterday to make a pot, after a long period of not using it, and the pot wouldn't pump the water through from the reservoir into the filter basket. It gurgles and steams and sputters, but only a small amount of water goes into the carafe. I emptied it and filled the reservoir with a coffeepot cleaning solution, to see if it could possibly be clogged. Again, a small amount made it into the pot, but the sputtering and gurgling continued for a long time with no sarisfactory results. Then I left a cleaning solution in the pot overnight, thinking the hole in the reservoir where the water SHOULD be pulled into the line leading to the filter basket might be clogged. After it sat overnight, I turned it on again and the same thing happened....gurgling, sputtering, steaming, condensation leaking out of the top of the reservoir. It's a goner, evidently, after not a lot of use. I definitely won't be buying a Cuisinart again after this experience, which was very disappointing. I gave it. 2 stars rather than 1, only because it did work reasonably well for awhile. I never liked the way the lid fit on the pot, however. It was hard to get off! 2
