Customer Reviews

Dangerous flaw and not built to last UPDATE: I am updating this review after discovering a dangerous flaw with this kettle. The kettle is supposed to shut off automatically when it boils, and it usually does, but every couple of weeks it just doesn't, and just continues to boil, even though all lights are off. Luckily I've been home every time this has happened, and so I unplugged it to turn it off. Even lifting it off the base doesn't turn it off, as it just starts boiling again when you put it down. If it was left like this, the water would all boil away, and since the kettle thinks it's already off, I'm not sure what would happen at that point. It has a feature that turns it off when there's no water in it, but that works when its on, and I'm not sure if it would work when it thinks it's off. I reported this to Cuisinart customer service but other than offering me a 20% discount on a new one, didn't seem to be too concerned.I had high hopes for this kettle, as it had some features I wanted, but in usage its not all that great, and the durability is poor. The first issue was the warning sound it makes when it boils, a critical feature. Its pretty much inaudible, 3 beeps from a circuit board mounted device that can't even be heard over the boiling water its so quiet. Since it auto shuts off once boiling, you end up walking over to it to check on it, and then have to restart it and wait for 30 seconds as it reboils. As well, all the lettering from the buttons wears away within a few weeks, and now my lid has failed, and won't open when I hit the button, so I have to pry it open with my fingernails. The lid can't be removed for cleaning inside. There is also some kind of dark stain on the bottom of it even though its only ever had tap water in it. Not sure what this brown stuff is but given all the other issues, this is not a kettle I would recommend, and now I have to buy another kettle after spending a lot of money on this one. I have Milwaukee power tools that cost less and have a 5 year warranty, so I'm not sure why Cuisinart can't do a little better. 1GREAT TILL IT LEAKS This teapot is great. Heat water to specific temperatures for green tea, white tea, French press coffee, etc.Teapot heats 10 times faster (so more cheaply) than a stove-top kettle. This teapot is great.18 months later, it leaks internally and there is water all over the counter. Cuisinart says box it up with proof of purchase and a check for $15 and mail it to Arizona and get a replacement (guaranteed ?). A common complaint in the reviews is that the pot leaks. Do I want to take a chance? Sort of like sticking your hand in the fire a second time to see if it's really hot.$15 and $15 more to ship it and a two-week turn-around if I'm lucky? Naaaah. I just ordered the Amazon's choice Secura teapot for $30 that has 4 1/2 stars on 4000 reviews 1They use REFURBISHED PARTS and pack the product inadequatly. The online description said nothing about using refurbished parts. However the product I received had refurbished "genuine Cuisinart parts". Among other things, that meant it has only a 90 day warranty. It is dishonest to describe a product as new and send one with refurbished parts. There was no protective bubble or other material inside either the outer box nor inside the inner box. The inner box has a dent in it. Do not buy this product online. 1Defective kettle and useless warranty Electric Kettle stopped working after 5 month. Cuisinart offered to replace it under their warranty, but I have to pay for shipping both ways ($15 for one way shipping) and wait 7 to 8 business days for replacement to be shipped. Why should I pay $30 and wait so long for a defective product replacement? Low quality product and useless warranty. 1Day 1: Wouldn't stop boiling and rust formed on inside bottom of kettle :-( My niece had this kettle and I came to love it, so when my old kettle was dropped and stopped working properly, (wouldn't stop boiling) I decided to buy this one when it came down in price. As you can tell from my title, it was a big fail!!! On day one it would beep when the water reached a boil, BUT it wouldn't switch to the "Keep Warm" mode. Instead, it just boiled and boiled and boiled. Initially, I was going to have Amazon replace it. However, when I went to package it back up, I noticed spots on the inside bottom of the kettle. Some were the type you get after extended use, that you can clean by soaking with vinegar. It was very odd these spots appeared after just one day of use. What was even more disturbing was some of those spots were rust. Needless to say I am looking for another brand/model. I am wondering if Cuisinart cheapened the kettle since my niece purchased hers. A stainless steel kettle should not be showing rust after just a few uses. A $100 retail price kettle should stop boiling when it reaches temperature. Just a big disappointment. 1Cuisinart guarantee is worthless We have loved this electric water kettle, until it just went belly up a year and a half after buying it.You'd think that a Cuisinart product would last better than this. So sad.UPDATE:Since this kettle was under warranty, I applied for a replacement with Cuisinart. It has now been over two months of submitting documents and phone calls and I have yet received my replacement unit. I, for one, cannot recommend buying Cuisinart appliances as they do NOT HONOR their guarantees. 1USELESS WARRANTY--DESIGNED TO THWART RETURN OF DEFECTIVE UNITS BUYERS, BEWARE! CUISINART'S "LIMITED WARRANTY' MAY BE LEGAL, BUT IT'S NEAR-FRAUDULENT!I bought this kettle in September, 2015 and it failed in December, 2015. The one-year warranty is USELESS. When I called for troubleshooting, they shipped me a replacement for the base. The replacement took almost a month to arrive, and was dead on arrival. It may have been defective, but most likely, the kettle was at fault. When I called to request that they replace the kettle, I discovered that (1) I'd have to ship the kettle back to them first, and (2) I'd need to enclose an extra $15 payment to cover Cuisinart's return shipping expense for the replacement unit...because the kettle only has "a limited warranty." So (counting $15, plus my own packaging and shipping cost) I'm being to told to expend at least $30 in order to get a replacement for a unit I had for three months--a unit that has never been abused or mistreated in any way. This is a PREMIUM product. It should have a PREMIUM warranty policy--just ship me the replacement, place a hold on my credit card until I return the bad one in the replacement packaging, etc. And the manufacturer pays for shipping both ways. This is common practice for other high-end products (and most Amazon returns), and I think it's inexcusable that Cuisinart takes an approach that seems DESIGNED TO AVOID having to honor their warranty. The representative was polite and professional throughout, but could not allow me to speak to her supervisor "because of the heavy call volume."She gave me the runaround; it's not her fault, she's just doing her job. Like any employee, she has to carry out her employer's policy. But Cuisinart's policy in INEXCUSABLE; it's not worth paying to replace the unit, and I'm never buying any Cuisinart product again.DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT IF YOU EVER EXPECT TO NEED SERVICE UNDER WARRANTY!! 1Too expensive when it doesn't last So why 2 Stars you wonder?Well I've had this Kettle for 2 years (if that) and the Kettle Still works. So I shouldn't complain right? I mean it looks great, it boils water to different temperatures and its cordless.Well for $80 bucks I expect the Kettle to last me for more than 2 years without issues. I mean I could have bought 2 cheap kettles and still be out ahead. OK - Get the point you say? OK - I willA little under a year the numbers rubbed off. OK - I was a little disappointed but I made due besides I only use 3 buttons (four if you count the lid opening button) but I made stickers for the buttons (which fell off about a month of use). Then about six months ago the lid began to get stuck and would need assistance to get opened. OK - even more disappointed but you know make due with what you've got.Last week the lid stop opening all together (can't pry it open) and now we have to pour the water in thru the spout (so much fun).So for $80 plus shipping I am very disappointed with Cuisinart. I wouldn't recommend it go with a cheaper version and if it breaks you are still out ahead. 2Failed product and weak customer service follow-up I purchased this product in September 2015 for a little over $80. By December it had ceased to work at all. After multiple email and telephone exchanges seeking to verify the serial number and assure that the product was not used commercially (it was not), I was informed that the the product was covered by a "Limited" warranty, meaning that I would have to pay to return the product to Cuisinart and pay $15 for shipping and handling for a replacement product. I think it is unacceptable for a reputable manufacturer to sell a product that has clearly failed (in under 3 months of use) and expect the customer to pay to have the product replaced. Replacement of the product in this situation should be "no questions asked" and at no cost to the customer. Furthermore, I can't understand why Cuisinart would not want me to return the failed product so that they can figure why it failed. Unless they already know ...Update: After much back and forth, Cuisinart offered to waive the $15 replacement service fee, but would not take responsibility for the cost of returning the defective device. I refused and have recycled the kettle. Coincidently, I had a recent customer service issue with a Cuisinart competitor, SharkNinja. In this case SharkNinja offered to replace the defective product. They wanted me to return the defective device so that their engineers could determine the reason for the failure. They immediately shipped a replacement, and emailed a pre-paid shipping label for the return. That's how a warranty and customer service are supposed to work! I'll never buy another Cuisinart product. 1The slow demise until entropy takes over! Purchased this product from Amazon on May the 8th 2013 and today (8/12/16) three years later it has expired. This was a great kettle for the first year of ownership we really liked it to begin with.During the first year it lost it's button decals, we though that's OK we can deal with it, it still works so we nursed it along for a while. Then in the second year now and again it started to just boil and boil without stopping, eventually it wouldn't stop boiling so we kept our eyes on it and turned it off when the water was ready. Now it just warms up a bit and beeps miserably.Time to give up with technology and get a whistling stovetop model "KitchenAid KTEN20CBPR 2.0-Quart Kettle with C Handle and Trim Band - Pyrite" this should last longer than three years and is much cheaper. 1
