Defective? Crappy design? defective or poorly engineered?I have only had this for about a week so and made 3 panini sandwiches. I noticed on the first couple sandwiches with the selection on griddle/panini and on high the sandwich would start cooking and then it seemed to just sit there keeping warm and then after a few minutes it would get hot and the sandwich would sizzle.On the third sandwich tonight I turned it up to sear, which is the highest setting there is. I plugged in my watt meter so that I would know when the unit was actually turning on. After the green light turned on this indicated it was all heated up. I put on my sandwich and watched the meter. The light went off which means the temperature has dropped and the unit then started to heat back up by showing me 1500 watts was being consumed on my watt meter. It reached temperature again, the green light came on and then the watts went back down to near nothing indicating it has reached temperature.The problem is that it stayed this way for over 3 minutes. That's right. There was no heating even on the highest setting for over 3 minutes. I had taken the sandwich out and opened the griddle all the way at the beginning of the 3 minutes. There is no way in hell this grill should have sat for over 3 minutes on high and not actually heat anything or consume electricity. The plates were obviously much cooler than they should have been and it still hadn't turned back on. This thing should have been cooking the hell out of those grates. There is something wrong with the temperature switch or it is just crappy engineering. Either way was packaged shortly after this and I initiated a return.I will be looking for another panini press 1The replacement is as good as my first one and I hope for another ... Thank you for a quality product. 5Favorable impression I like the size and ease of this griddle. I have used it to griddle eggs and hashbrowns. Worked pretty good. I have also grilled hamburgers and steaks. Worked excellent! With a thermometer inserted in the meat, I was able to grill to perfect taste. Also was able to almost cut the time in half due to having heat top and bottom while cooking. I do miss the smoke flavor, so am going to experiment with some liquid smoke. 4This is my second Cuisinart Griddler and while still love it it is not made a well a first ... Nothing is made as well as in past but one must move on. 4great product use it daily and works great 5SEAR POWER! Like my favorite purchase from Amazon thus far! Makes amazing sandwiches, sears meat with great grill marks (tip: make sure meat is dried before seasoning). Super easy to clean plates. Why only 4 stars? to be objective, if there is any draw back it is that the top plate is open when in press grill mode it does drip a little on the surface you are cooking on...but well worth the clean up. Sears better than any forman grill I have owned. Use it at least once a day!!! And although it does talk about mostly using boneless meat, I have grilled New York- bone in steak, making sure to angle the bone so the wides end of the meat or bone faces front... the idea to make as much contact with the meat as possible....it did amazingly juicy things and got a perfect sear even almost figured out the cross thatch pattern...love this grill! Love it love it love it!!!!Ordering the waffle plates...I will let ya'll know! ;) 4Good quality product Good quality product. I like the fact you can flip over the grills and lay both sides flat. It would be nice if the handle folded down out of the way for storage, It takes up a lot of room to store.The grills are somewhat loosely attached and rattle. The grill attachment to the body could be better. 3Makes Excellant Steaks, Sandwiches, Pancakes, and etc. Very even heat distribution. Extremely easy to clean...just put in the dishwasher, and you are done. 5Smaller than expected It works great. Looking at the picture, we thought it was a good size. When we received it, we found it was a bit smaller than we were expecting. I kept from giving it 5 stars because of its size. Wish it was bigger. 4Adventures in Bacon This press sounded too good to be true...it did everything it said it would BUT for the purposes of "The Adventures of Bacon" it was little lacking.Bacon Lovers everywhere would appreciate it if you folks at Cuisinart would make the pans a little deeper and the cooking surface a bit bigger so as to fit an entire slab of bacon on it.The grease drain worked well as long as the cooking surface is perfectly level.That would be aided with a deeper pan.It cleaned up easily.Will add to this as the experiment continues. 4
