    Filtered water at great price I purchased three of these and ran them in-line. The first unit has a 15 micron filter, the second has a 5 micron filter and the last is a carbon filter. I did have a leakage issue on the initial test. One of the filters was gushing water even after I over tightened the housing. Turns out it was operator error. I had rinsed the units out upon receiving them, when I placed them in the drying rack, the o-ring fell off that unit. When I placed it back in the unit, I decided to apply a little silicone faucet grease to each o-ring. Also, I wrapped the units' threads with Teflon tape for a little more piece of mind. The next test was all dry. I hand tightened the housing plus a quarter turn using the wrench as the instruction specify. I'm using this with my existing faucet from an older water filtration system that has a 3/8" connection, so I used Watts LFA125 for the water in and out.After two weeks, I opened the units up, the filters are already discolored, as I expected with our well water. I'll probably change the 15 and 5 micron filters every three months and the carbon every five or six months. I may purchase more of these and either hook them up to filter all the house's water, or just run them for the laundry machine, our whites do not stay white very long.Overall, great filtered water and at reasonable price! 5prefer the charcoal filter inserts If you've got hard water, lots of calcium, or lots of "seasonal chlorine-loading" (dumping cheap bleach into the water supply to kill off tourist bacteria like on Galveston Island, for example), this filter HOUSING works GREAT when coupled with the CHARCOAL insert (sold separately). Two thumbs up. 5My Awesome 2-Stage Filter System I shopped around like crazy for something I could use for a whole-house filter system without having to pay the big bucks. I came across this product and read the reviews of some who did some pretty nice multi-stage configurations.So I decided to buy two of these to make a 2-stage whole-house system with the first stage being the included filter (think it is 15micron) and the second stage is the charcoal filter.Next I had to learn quickly how to solder copper pipe as I've never done it before. A few Youtube videos later I went to work on my system. In the process I discovered my main gate valve was bad so that is a bonus as I replaced it with a ball valve.Now I want to Pay Forward by adding photos and explanation here to help others because those who did the same really helped me to decide to go forward with this product and project and it has been working for a couple months or so without any issues.In the photos below, the first photo shows the valve arraignment that I went with after reading the comments of others here. I purchased 3 ball valves for this here on Amazon that had the wing type handles only because they were the least expensive. They work great. Valve #1 and #2 add or remove the filter loop from the system. When #1 and #2 are closed, valve #3 is opened to allow water to go to the house without the filters. When putting the filter system in play, valve #3 is turned off, and valve #1 and #2 are opened to cause the water to loop through the filters. You can see the complete filter loop 2-stage system in photo 3.In photo 2, I added a coupling just after valve #1 and another just after the second filter. This is so that if anything were to happen to the filter housings themselves, I will be able to remove this stretch of copper pipe without cutting and re-soldering. I decided to do whatever it takes to make this a super low-maintenance system and I believe I achieved this.Note: Be sure to press the red button above the filters when putting them into play just to bleed out any air. I do this actually before opening Valve #2 after the filters so as not to add any additional air into the house plumbing.In the last photo, you see the complete system with the housing I built for it out of 3/4" plywood. This not only protects my system from things bumping into the piping (this is my garage, btw) but it provides storage for the filters and filter tools and additional storage on top!As a last note, the water pressure coming out of my faucets and showers shows NO decline in pressure. If I didn't know for a fact that the filters were not being bypassed, I'd have sworn it was. And for extra giggles, I installed a nice RO system under the kitchen sink. So we have pretty good water everywhere in the house on the cheap! 5Great Product I bought three of these and ran them in-line. I have very heavy iron in my water and these do a great job filtering it out. I have a 15 micron filter first, then a 5 micron, then a carbon filter last. (See the photo of how I plumbed them that is with the images of this product) 5I can't imagine a better filter system at this price point I can't imagine a better filter system at this price point. I am a bit of a water snob and I am tickled pink with how well this filter system with the upgraded charcoal filter, has cleaned up the taste of our city tap water. To achieve a longer interval between filter changes, we decided to install 2 of these filters at the point of use rather than having one filter on the main water supply line. One was installed in the cabinet next to the under-counter ice maker, and another one under the kitchen sink where water is drawn for cooking and drinking. My first attempt at plumbing in the filter was a lesson in what not to do. I tried to use a 1" male threaded, schedule 40, pvc reducing adapter at the filter housing, followed by a 3/8" x 3/4" brass, male threaded compression adapter to allow a standard 3/8" metal braided supply line to be used between the filter and the ice maker. The pvc adapter would not seal at the threads and I ended up breaking the end of the adapter off with the threads still in the filter housing. Once I switched to an all brass setup this problem was solved and the system has been water tight ever since. Picture included to assist with the purchase of the necessary brass fittings for those DIY people brave enough to tackle this install. 5Remove instructions Works well. However, be sure to open up the unit and remove the instructions that are wrapped around the cartilage before putting it in service. Ask me how I know. 4Neat install with gauges (thanks reviewer FAA) Just finished the install. Thanks to reviewer FAA (https://www.amazon.com/gp/review/R3NVOJ9EC2QVC0?ref_=glimp_1rv_cl) I duplicated his setup - drilling and tapping a 1/4" NPT hole in the top of the housing to install lead-free 0-100 PSIG gauges. This will help show back-pressure that develops as the filters become clogged.I won't repeat what parts I used since FAA's post is so detailed (see link in paragraph above). The only thing I would add is that when you use put the close nipple between the housings, don't be afraid to have the nipple bottom out on the centering hex ring on the nipple. If you can see the shoulder, it's not in far enough - and you may have leaks (I did). I also used the higher-priced thicker yellow Teflon tape instead of a liquid sealing compound.Other than that, it went in great. Dynamic pressure drop shows about 10 PSIG delta between inlet and outlet gauges. I have the pleated bulk filter first, then carbon, then the stock wrapped core that comes with the housing (30 micron?). Have not used the water yet (just finished installing) - so I may have to update my review should I have sub-par results.The gauges, out of the box, have a bit of a precision issue. There's about a 4 PSI spread between all of them when pressure is equalized (static). Not concerned enough to replace them. 5Perfect for 3 filter setup modified for guages. The housings are cheap and perfect for what I used them for:I bought 3 of these and modified them by adding gauges to the top of the housing. Gauges are the only reasonable way to tell when the filters need replacing.I started by realigning the top bracket with the pressure relief valve (picture 1 and 2).That gave me a good template on the opposite side to drill a 7/16 hole (use a drill press to get a straight hole - picture 3).Use a 1/4 npt tap in the hole Hanson 8203 Tap 1/4-18 Npt Taper for Tap Die Extraction(picture 4)The finished product (picture 5) with the hole drilled and tapped.Connect the three housings using two LASCO 17-8669 3/4-Inch Male Pipe Thread Brass Hex NippleInstall gauges. I used Winters PEM Series Steel Dual Scale Economical All Purpose Pressure Gauge with Brass Internals, 0-100 psi/kpa, 2" Dial Display, +/-3-2-3% Accuracy, 1/4" NPT Bottom Mount you could use fluid filled gauges, but I didn't see the benefit of the additional cost.Using a good thread seal - NOT tape - such as Rectorseal 23631 1/4 Pint Brush Top T Plus 2 Pipe Thread SealantThe final product pictures 6 and 7. Total cost around $100 and a small amount of work. It beats anything else you will find. 5Can't go too far wrong for the price So far, so good. The price is excellent and the available filter selection is great. We're using a 5 micron, charcoal filter, then 1 micron and our well water is DELICIOUS! Hopefully will extend the life of toilets and appliances as well! Good stuff! 4Rock solid, and easy to install. I installed three of these in series with staged filters (35 micron, 5 micron, and charcoal), and I modified them with gauges so that I could monitor pressure across each stage. They went in easily enough, connected with 3/4" nipples, and I hydrostatically tested them after installation and assembly to ensure that a runaway pump wouldn't damage the system. Not a drop leaked out during a ten minute hold at 200 PSI. 5
