Customer Reviews

Good flashlight but...I purchased this from Amazon via the Ecop vendor. The penlight worked great for me and I enjoyed clipping it to my pocket or shirt to always know where it was located. Unfortunately, the clip on the light broke and made hooking it to my pocket or shirt impossible. Ecop wanted me to work with Amazon to replace the light. Amazon's computerized system wanted me to work with Ecop. The clip broke. I wanted a replacement or a refund because it no longer works as intended. It was a purchase under ten dollars and easy to resolve. I told them that. They closed my case without a replacement.Okay, after I wrote this review I received my refund.Thank you.1Flawed and CheapThis new model has a major flaw. The top cap that screws down to hold the batteries in the flashlight is now made of plastic unlike the first generation full metal cap. With this flaw, it is ten times easier to snap the cap while the pen light is in your front pocket. In tight jeans its a guarantee. Screwing it down to tight is a instant way to strip the plastic cap. Mine is now in its final resting place (in someones attic in 2 pieces)1Great buy! I really like these and place them in different locations throughout the house. Bright light! The only down side, is that they don't last as long as the all silver ones they used to make, so took one star of for that. My husband uses his for work. He's a tech and has to light up areas way in the back of dish machines. Light enough to hold with this teeth when he has to use 2 hands to change out parts. I keep one in my glove box and both of us have one in our survival packs which we always leave in our cars in case of an emergency or if we get stranded. 4very bright, many uses Arrived promptly. Bought this one for my husband because he had been admiring the one he had ordered for me. Any portable light around our house is used by everyone. It is bright and there are many uses for it. Great to have for the purse, car, desk, really anywhere. 5Medical perspective: durable, bright clip broke after 3 monthsI've had it for three months. It outlasts all the other penlights I've owned for patient assessments. Occasionally you have to tighten the battery compartment, but they all seem to do that. This one much less so. It works after multiple drops. It is VERY bright, almost too bright if you are using it in medical assessments for pupils. I would give it five stars, but the pocket clip just broke off. I'm buying a new one anyway. Stay away from the white plastic medical penlights, they always short out in a couple of days requiring the palm smack to get them to come back on until they don't.4The light s great, when it works. So I got this like almost a month ago, just a few days shy of a month.. and I m already getting issues with it, where sometimes the light will dim and you have to shake it in order to brighten it again. Sometimes the light will also go out completely and you have to turn it on and off again, or shake it to fix. Kind of sad because the design is great. I just think the internals aren t so snug or something, so it sometimes looses its connection.. that s my assumption.2It's actually pretty embarrassing. I need to go to a hardware ...Wow... I bought a similar pen light about 5 years ago at a Lowe's store, and I've seen the same thing at Home Depot before. Tried ordering it online to save myself a trip to the store. They sent me one that's slightly different but in an important way. The part that you screw together to hold the battery in is made of plastic (the one I had before is made of metal). This product started within the first month or 2 to flicker when it was supposed to be on. The connection that connects the battery power to the light is obviously loose.. but the top is screwed on as much as it can be. Now, 6 months in.. I literally have to smack the thing 3-10 times and hold it at a certain angle every time I want to use it. It's actually pretty embarrassing. I need to go to a hardware store and get a new real one (hopefully they have the old model, not this cheap ripoff).I reached out to the company that sold it to me, and they said they'd exchange it after I send this one back. Did not offer to pay for shipping. I should have returned it after the first flicker.1Small but Very Sturdy and Handy. What's not to love? It's purse-sized and powerful enough for my needs (earrings, screws, flints, pencil leads-any tiny thing that you can't find once it falls down a crevice or in a carpet somewhere). Had one for years until it just gave up the ghost (well, actually it got dropped in water-"death by misadventure"). Replaced it because I prefer to be self-reliant as a woman. Anything that is tough enough to fight for its life and survive in my purse has got to be rugged. The inside of MY pocketbook is not a "civilized environment", so high marks to Energizer for a small but sturdy flashlight.5BETTER Than Expected; Bright, Focused LED Light, Ideal for Eyes, Ears, and ThroatsI bought this because I needed a REASONABLY priced penlight for looking into my Labrador Retriever's ears (if you have one, you KNOW they're prone to ear infections). This was a great value and works even better than I expected. The beam's well-focused and it's lightweight, easy to use, and thick enough to grip easily. It uses two AA batteries (included in the package). Just be careful replacing batteries; the male threads are PLASTIC and if you're the impatient type, you'll strip threads if you get in too big a hurry to put the top back in place after changing the batteries. Other than that tiny quibble, I'm very happy; highly recommended if you want a great value on a functional, small flashlight.5Great lite.Great lite...the weak point is the plastic switch....they easily break if you pressure them...as when you put them say in your pants pocket and bend down....the stress cracks them.. if you keep it on a table top or are careful with it...it makes a great light....however..energizer has recently come out with a very heavy duty inspection light that is much thicker...but comes with a very nice clip....still fits in a shirt or pant pocket and is virtually unbreakable....I have switched to those and have no more switch issues or complaints......D3Prefer Rayovac for travel; the Energizer is more powerful, but the design is not optimalWhen I travel, I pack pen lights because they can clip into back packs and take up little space. For years, I've used Rayovac pen lights (Rayovac Value Bright 3 Lumen LED Pen Light with Battery (BRSLEDPEN-B). I wanted to buy a couple of pen lights for my parents who were going to be traveling and so I bought two of the Rayovac lights and an Energizer LED pen light (ENERGIZER PLED23AEH LED PENLIGHT); I'd never used the Energizer option. Both lights have pros and cons, and many of the pros are the same.Energizer LED pen light (ENERGIZER PLED23AEH LED PENLIGHT):Pros: 1) Has a small footprint, 2) has a clip so that it can be affixed on to a loop in a pursue or backpack, 3) has 15 hours of battery life, and 4) the light is 21 lumens and extends far out in front of the user (the box says 23 meters).Cons: 1) Uses two AAA batteries rather than one battery, 2) the cap is more prone to harder to screw on correctly, 3) the unit is more expensive than other pen lights, and 4) the cap sometimes spontaneously unscrew. 5) The biggest issue for traveling? At the end of the pen light, a bit of glass extends beyond the light's body. I haven't tried dropping the light on concrete, but I would hazard to guess that glass impacting concrete, cobblestone, or brick wouldn't be a good thing.Rayovac (Rayovac Value Bright 3 Lumen LED Pen Light with Battery (BRSLEDPEN-B)Pros: 1) compact, 2) has a clip so it can be affixed to a loop, 3) uses one AAA battery, 4) cap is easy to screw on and off, 5) cap stays securely affixed even during movement, 6) the 3 lumen option is one of the most economical pen light units available, and 7) all glass/light components are safely surrounded by the pen light's body.Cons: 1) Short battery life (5.5 hours according to the box) and 2) the light is 3 lumens and more suitable to illuminating the space immediately around a user rather than far in front of a user. When I travel, I care more about not falling on my face. The Rayovac fulfills that purpose and I don't have to worry about a glass tip breaking in my back pack or luggage or cracking if it falls on a hard surface. I like the screw top cap better on the Rayovac as well - it is easier to secure and stays affixed. The short battery life on the Rayovac is a bummer. The Energizer's power is great when compared to its size, but I really hate that glass extends beyond the unit, which admittedly does allow light to dissipate. I do love the longer battery life on the Energizer as well. However, for my purposes, the Rayovac Value Bright 3 Lumen LED Pen Light with Battery (BRSLEDPEN-B is the option I will continue to use unless I have a need for a light that extends far in front of me during travel.3The reason for the low rating is because I did ...The reason for the low rating is because I did not receive the pen light shown in the description picture. I've owned the exact one shown and it held up well for my daily nursing for 3 plus years. The actual pen light I received had a smooth housing rather than the desired cut design grip. Which you can see when you zoom in on the picture. Also, the light itself is different. It is the newer LED bulb they seem to be using in the manufacture of many of the newer style small lights. The type of light they emmit it not one you can use to check pupillary response.2
