Customer Reviews

Came apart first time out! This is the first time I used them and they already came apart and have to be adjusted. I was using them on 3/4" branches and suddenly the blade slipped out of the adjustable holder. Unfortunately, I do not have the hand strength to fix it with a Philips head screwdriver and will have to wait to finish my job until a man comes along and does that for me. I think they will be fine, but a little disappointed in them coming apart first time out. If they can't be fixed, I'll be sending them in for the lifetime warranty, cause right now, they are useless. 3After two years these work like new and have stayed sharp with no rust. Strongly recommend for light to mid duty trimming. Let me caveat my review that I have about 8 bushes on my back deck that are in large pots so I use these trimmers to keep the evergreens and rose bushes well groomed. I do not have a garden or lawn. I have now owned these clippers for 2 years. They still work great and are sharp. I do wipe them off before storing them each time after I use them with a dry paper towel. If I had one improvement recommendation for this tool it would be to put some foam or soft rubber on the handles. When spring rolls around it takes me about an hour a bush to properly prune it. So after using these clippers for about 20 minutes my hands do get a little sore from the hard plastic handles. With that said though at least with these clippers I do not have to worry about the cushion cracking and falling apart. So instead I make sure I am wearing gardening gloves when using these to prevent blisters and give my hands some cushioning. When I get started pruning I do not want to stop until I get the bush completed. These clippers are sharp enough and durable so they will cut through some fairly large limbs. I think the key to keeping this tool rust free and in good shape is to wipe it down after use and to try not to use this tool for limbs that are too thick. At this great Amazon price and because these have lasted me so long without issue, I give them a 5 star rating and I strongly recommend them for light to mid duty trimming. If your hands get tired get some nice gardening gloves to give your hands some protection from the hard grips or take a break and grab a glass of iced tea. To date I have had no problems with the clippers locking mechanism or the callabration of the clipping edges. 5Inferior workmanship Blades always catch with each squeeze of the handle. cleaning and sharpening have not helped. Very disappointed. Will spend my money on better products, such as those made by Felco. 1Work great Really like these...Some of the reviews have commented on hard to get to stay closed...There is a little "detent" that the closure lever must get by in order for them to stay closed and perhaps making it a little harder to get open...I just keep mine open all the time and in a small leather tool holster which keeps them closed until I pull them out and they come out ready to use (opened). I might have gone with the older Fiskars version of the open/close lever that has never failed me nor presented any problem. 5Nice pruners good value I like these way better than my other Fiskars. I understand there may be professional pruners at higher price. These are a good value and I like the contoured handle. The spring is not a wire spring but rather a banded steel that I'm hoping will stay in its track. Regular wire springs have a tendency to buckle and sometime pop out, get lost so this was one reason for my choice of these Fiskars. Blade cutting action is adequate and I'm hoping they will hold that edge longer than my old pair we'll see. Nice pruners overall. 5Must-Own Pruning Shears For Home Gardeners If you have lots of plants at home, then you need a pair of these pruners. These are one of Fiskars' top three pruners (the others are for very thick and specialty pruning), and comes with a lifetime warranty; you can't beat that.I've used these for multiple things: obviously for cutting hard branches around 1/4" thick, softer stems up to 1/2" thick, and even cutting popsicle sticks for a very challenging student project; these shears cut through them with ease. They are good for cutting branches and stems up to 1" in diameter.I took a star off because of the quality of the metal. I must've accidentally left some water on the blades and closed them because they are now slightly rusted, and I can't scrape it off. I have to remember to let the blades dry before closing them. These are sturdy and strong pruners for your plant pruning needs. Recommended. 4don't open them too far? These are supposed to have one of those wonky space-age designs that adjusts the tension. I didn't watch to video or attempt to figure that out. I have no problems with these, except that one time they sorta opened too far and almost got stuck open with the blade against the thumb. I was working as a landscaper and didn't have time to inspect how it happened, but thankfully I was able to quickly get it working again and it only happened the one time. I wouldn't undo my purchase, I still like the blade and the comfortable handle, but it might be just a tad over-designed. Why can't we get professional grade materials and design with simple consumer grab and go simplicity? 4Inexpensive with Lifetime Warranty - UPDATE 4/10/15: frustrating to use I purchased these Fiskars Bypass Pruning Shears to cut back some blackberry vines, trim some rose bushes and do some basic cleanup in my yard. I had just thrown a pair of broken shears in the garbage and was looking for a pair under twenty, that could cut under 1/2" stalks with relative ease. While these shears cut OK, they tended to get stuck in the closed position. I noted the spring in between the two grips was covered in a way I'd not seen before, and I think that's the culprit. While I like the look, and in theory I think it would protect the spring, in practice I think it may bind it a bit too.I took some photos of the barely used shears (I noted this issue after only half a dozen cuts) to show the area I mean. It's not a deal breaker and I'll use these until they too break. There is a Lifetime Warranty (repair, replace or substitute) on this product from Fiskars for the original purchaser, so I'll keep this in mind. NOTE: These shears are Made in China. For the price I paid I'm pleased with the shears. They are not the sharpest nor the most durable looking ones I've owned, but for light to medium duty, they should be fine. I will update this review as I use these more throughout the Northwest spring.---------------------UPDATE 4/10/15I lowered my star rating (they may be OK for some who get a pair that works) for this item as when I use them they 'catch'. The action isn't smooth and I have to consistently open them manually after a cut. I wouldn't recommend them now as after a few uses I'm ready to stop using them and try something else. 3Ergonomic handle and improved spring recoil makes all day pruning a pleasure Fiskars; for the win! I remember using Fiskars brand scissors when I was in grade school and I always tried to get those versus the other brands laying around. The reason I liked them back then was that they were sturdy and very sharp. Not much has changed over time.I bought these pruning shears because I purchased just shy of 100 mixed hardwood trees to plant on my 20 acres of land. The trees ranged in size from 2-6 feet tall and were mixes of oak, maple and some softwood pine and spruce species. Although the trees were in good shape, some already had sucker growth forming and few of the tips had gotten damaged during shipping. Needless to say, I had plenty of pruning to do.The feel of these pruners are awesome. The ergonomic handle is very comfortable and the textured rubberized grip makes holding onto them a breeze. The unique spring system has a closed coil design which helps to keep debris from binding up the recoil. The cutting shears are very durable and I have never had the two shears separate from each other, which can be a problem with lesser quality pruners and shears. I already ordered a second pair to have on hand because I like these so much; plus now my wife and I don't have to argue over who gets to use them! 5If you want to feel stronger than you are, but these for a confidence boost. Omg so my Christmas tree got super moldy last year and our living room smelled like an old library book from an elementary school in the 90s. I can t explain why, but the mold smelled like that (not in a good way). I didn t want to mess with bringing a bulky, moldy tree through my apartment building to the compost, so I removed all lights and ornaments (on December 20th don t tell Santa, pretty sure he didn t notice), and used these shears to cut off each branch individually. I was left with one moldy stump (that s what she said) and a bag of branches much easier and cleaner to maneuver through the hallways. Sorry, that s a tangent. As I was saying, these shears literally cut even the thick base branches with ease. I d like to think I m stronger than I think I am, but let s be real that s simply not true. 5
