Customer Reviews

Holds up a TV, and for cheap First one came damaged in shipping, so Amazon sent a new one really fast, and it was out of the manufacturer's box (which didn't have any padding the first time around, that's why the "wood" got damaged) and in a box with packing peanuts and such. Great job on the second delivery, no busted pieces. While it's really simple to put together, it seems fairly sturdy for being so lightweight. I'm using it as a riser for a 40-inch LCD TV and it doesn't seem like a strain. This was much taller than a lot of the other risers, but definitely not tall enough to just have this on the floor. (IMHO)Just be aware: The materials are fairly cheap-feeling, so I don't know how this would stand up if you "used" it like you would a regular piece of furniture. But to just sit there and not be touched, it'll do for the price. 5Some tips and tricks worth considering I ve bought a lot of RTA (ready to assemble) furniture over time and there are at least two things that are universally true. One is that some of it is pure junk while other brands are acceptable considering the fact that it is economical to buy. The other thing is that the finished product rarely looks like the manufacturer s advertising photos. So this review will be aimed at whether or not this TV stand is even worth considering, and whether or not it looks halfway decent for the price.First off, consider that this is at the very bottom of the price scale of anything remotely similar being sold by Amazon. It is simply unreasonable to set your expectations too high. Don t expect real wood of any kind. That being said, the majority of similar manufactured materials products being sold today are either solid compressed wood products (sawdust) or laminate over a hollow core which may be 100% hollow or be filled with corrugated board (cardboard like a shipping box only thicker). The compressed wood product furniture generally can support an equal amount of weight over the entire surface up to the total weight the manufacture specifies, while the hollow core product is strongest around the perimeter, a heavy object placed toward the center can break right through the thin laminate. This Furinno TV stand uses solid compressed wood products. To break it down further, there are generally two types of compressed wood products, one of which is very densely compressed and the other (logically) is very loosely compressed. Both can be made to support close to the same amount of weight but the loosely compressed product will not hold a screw hole, while the densely compressed product works with screws similar to real wood. This stand is a more densely compressed wood product than some I've seen but definitely not dense enough to hold a screw. How the product assembles is important to know. Since it is compressed wood product you can t screw it together without it falling apart. That s why Furinno uses plastic tubular legs that tap on to a pre-cut holes. That arrangement works out ok as long as all of the weight on the stand is downward (which would be normal for a TV stand) and you don t move the stand with anything on it because the legs are not designed to withstand a lot of side-to-side pressure.Assembly requires no tools and almost no effort, the instructions show using a book to tap the legs in although I ve learned that one of the handiest tools I own is a basic rubber mallet. Do NOT tap on the shelves, but rather lay the shelf on a towel spread over hard flat surface and gently tap down on the fasteners to fasten them in place. I highly recommend using glue on any RTA furniture, my preference is Gorilla brand glue which seems very well suited for the types of materials used here but any good wood glue will work.I bought this stand not for a TV but for a wide-format color inkjet printer which is 24 wide. The fit is acceptable. I wanted/needed the stand to be low to fit under a desk and it is very hard to find a printer stand that is only 16 high. My printer is very heavy at 43 lbs. which is right about at the limit this stand is rated for, but because all of the weight is equally at the edges the stand holds my printer just fine.Another suggestion (besides using glue) is to use stick-on feet on any RTA furniture. Use plastic/nylon guides if you have carpeted floors and felt pads if you have hard-surface floors. That way if you do need to move the stand with some weight on it there is less of a chance of the legs snapping off.As far as looks, this is a very plain functional design so it looks pretty good. The black unit I bought has a smooth simulated woodgrain finish that doesn t try to pretend it is anything other than laminate over pressed wood. This isn t a fancy or heavy-duty stand but it is a good value for the price. 4Smaller than expected This is a great product for a child's bedroom for a T.V. I thought it was bigger than it is. I like it but plan on getting a bigger stand in the future. Very easy to put together. 3Very low, but serves its purpose I want to start off by saying I am not using this as a TV stand.Last month, I adopted a rehomed bearded dragon with MBD. I had nothing to place her enclosure on, so her tank sat on the floor while I looked for reasonable options. I wanted something low so as to not block wall art.I received this today and put it together in mere minutes. Many have recommended a rubber mallet to put a specific part of this together, but I used a regular hammer and cushioned the blow with a folded towel over the striking point - no damage. While this is still lower than what I imagined, it's pretty perfect otherwise. No scratches or damages when it arrived, easy assembly, and does what I needed it to do.My only concern is how well it'll hold the weight of the enclosure as the legs are plastic, but the weight is evenly distributed among the four legs. The enclosure weighs maybe 50lbs or so, and someone had made the comment about it holding a 30g fish tank, and that's way more weight due to the water.Time will tell, and for under $20, this solved a month old issue. 5All I could hope for I purchased this as a table top tv stand to give some extra height to my 42 tv. It s dimensions were a perfect fit for my tv s base, and there is enough clearance underneath to fit video game, dvd, or Blu-ray cases.I read a lot of negative reviews, but since it was such a great match for what I needed, I bought it anyway. I have to say my experience was pretty good. I had it assembled in less than 5 minutes with no issues, and it seems to be more than sturdy enough to hold the tv.I can t in good conscience give it 5 stars, because it is pretty darn cheap. Mine had no damage, but had a couple edges where you could see the pressboard just peeking through between the fake wood grain and the plastic edge strip. I got the black one, so I was able to color in the offending edges with a black sharpie. Just color away, and then quickly wipe with a paper tower. The paper towel will wipe off the sharpie ink from the glossy surfaces and just leave the rough edges blacked. After 5 minutes assembly and another 5 with the sharpie, it pretty much looks like the photo. So don t expect this to be your most prized piece of furniture, and keep in mind it costs $15, and I think you won t me disappointed. 4If you need a tv stand for your Dolls.. I knew this would be cheap, I did not need anything fancy. I was however surprised at how flimsy it was and already chipped. I blame myself for not noticing dimensions when I ordered. I was in a hurry. It is 11 inches tall. I am still shocked by the size. So unless you wanna lay on floor to view tv or video games with your barbies keep looking. 1Excellent value stand with great looks Fantastic stand that can support smaller TVs, computer monitors, and anything else you d like to stack on it. I was in need of a cheap TV stand for the bedroom and this product delivered exactly what I was looking for. I d prefer it to be a bit larger since I m using a 43 TV but that s not a big problem for me. If you are in the market for a TV stand like I was, consider whether your TV has a central stand or if it used feet on the ends of a TV. If so, you probably won t fit a TV that s over 37 on this. If your TV has a centralized stand then you ll be fine with just about anything up to 55 or so. The stand feels sturdy enough to handle moderate weight requirements. I wouldn t personally want to stand on it but it s sturdy enough for its intended purposes. I love the design as well. There were three to choose from and I picked the stone color with black supports and it looks sharp. 5Great for a small living room This TV stand doesn't take up much space so it's perfect for a dorm or small apartment. I like that it has two surfaces so I can store my blu-ray player and router/modem on the bottom shelf. My only gripe is that the legs look really cheap up close but from a distance it's not too bad. The stand is also pretty short. It isn't even a foot high which doesn't bother me but if you plan on using this in your bedroom, you might not see your TV from your bed. Overall, it's great for the price and it was fast and easy to put together. You don't even need to screw anything in. 5It's better than a cardboard box!!!!!!!!! I recently decided to update some of my furniture to make it less "ghetto". After five years of marriage, I'm finally deciding to take my wife's advice and have nicer things than a teen living in the slums.Up till now my 42 inch plasma TV has been resting on a Playstation 3 Console box made of cardboard to raise it above the coffee table it's sitting on in the bedroom. I started looking for TV stands and risers, but all of them were either too low, too expensive, or too ugly. This piece fits the bill nicely. Not only does it raise the TV as high as the box it was previously sitting on, it lifts it around TWICE as high, leaving room underneath for home theater components (roku, switchbox, Playstation 4) which were previously spread around. So now there's room for a space heater, video game controllers, and a plant on the coffee table without blocking airflow and making everything really crowded.Build QualityThis piece of furniture is made out of the kind of plastic used to extend your vacuum cleaner and particle board. Don't kick it around, body-slam it, beat it with heavy tools, or move it a ton. If you are expecting something made out of solid wood for less than 20.00 than I'd like to know what rock you've been hiding under. At any rate, if a cardboard box can hold up a 42 inch plasma, certainly particle board (which is basically as strong as wood) held together with plastic pillars can handle it no problem. If you item arrived scratched or broken that's not the fault of build quality. Solid wood would arrive heavily scratched or shattered if it got smashed too. Just send it back and get another one.AppearanceThe one I got is a lovely solid black and unless you are inches away staring at it in a brightly lit room you're not going to notice the pillars are plastic. Likewise, just about all home theater furniture is made of painted particle board unless you're rich and buying something really high grade. I think it looks great. The black virtually disappears when the lights are out and complements my black TV and black PS4, switchbox, and Roku nicely.Build TimeIt took me 6 minutes to assemble this item and maybe 10-15 minutes to install everything (lift the TV on top, rewire components so they sit inside the stand). There's basically three steps to the instructions and they couldn't be more simple. You COULD use a rubber mallet to make it easier to tap in the plastic screw holes, but any flat heavy soft object would do (I used an allen wrench rubberized tool I got for free years ago to tap them in). There's not a lot of resistance and they tap right in. The rest of the stpes are basically just hand-tightening (don't overdo it or you'll probably strip the plastic threading). I think a five year old could assemble this with a little help in like 20 minutes.All-in-all I am extremely happy with this item. It's much more useful and attractive than a cardboard box. I wish I had bought one years ago. Now to replace my Rubbermaid nightstand... 5Great shelf for a Leprachaun This stand is horrible, it is so small only a leprechaun would enjoy this, my daughter had her TV on the floor so we bought this and when she put her TV on the stand it was lower than having it on the floor. When we realized we couldn't use it, we put it in her younger sisters doll house. 1
