Customer Reviews

At this point I have to assume they either didn't have the tool lined up properly or are otherwise just not that handy or any go So far I am really digging this kit. I used it to put a new snap on a leather knife sheath and it worked flawlessly. I read several reviews stating that the tool split or just smashed the shaft ends instead of rolling them as they are meant to. I did not experienced that at all. At this point I have to assume they either didn't have the tool lined up properly or are otherwise just not that handy or any good with tools. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because I wish they had kept the 4 parts separated because you have to dig through them and 2 of the pieces look very similar and could mistakenly be put in on the wrong way. 4Great kit for the home user for a small project! I just used this kit to add 4 snaps to the gussets of my $1500+ Langlitz motorcycle jacket. I never liked the way that the gussets just hung out so I added snaps. This kit had almost everything I needed besides a hole punch for the leather. I used the #4 setting on the leather punch and took a deep breath and punched a hole in a jacket I had waited nearly 6 months to get. The snaps were the easy part. Putting them together ahead of time made things go faster and prevented mistakes as the parts are slightly confusing. I put 4 snaps on my jacket in under a 1/2 hour and I have near zero leather working experience at all. Some tips. Hammer a little at a time. I was concerned that the snaps would come off the thick cowhide of my jacket so the first snap I put on I hammered the heck out of it and punched the tabs right through the snap. Hold everything in place and hammer a little and then check. You will need something solid under the anvil. I used a dumbell that was easy to get inside my jacket for the hammering process. The snaps themselves are very strong and don't come unsnapped without a good bit of effort. This is what I wanted. On a side note the snaps match nearly perfectly the existing snaps on my jacket. I opted for the silver snaps rather than the standard brass ones to match the chrome on my Harley. These snaps work well for thick leather. I ordered the thick cowhide option for my jacket and the advisor on the phone said "you will never break this jacket in". He was right for the most part but these snaps had absolutely no problem getting through the really thick leather. 5Great I just started making fabric wallets and bought and returned 3 Snap Fasteners before I found this one by General Tools. It works great, but my reason for giving it a 4 star is because the company does not offer Refills. You have to buy the entire kit and now that I have ran out of all my six snap fasteners I am on the hunt once again for snaps that fit this kit. Thank you General Tools for the Snap Kit but make it possible to buy refills. 4Good product, great quality at a reasonable price price Greetings to all,I needed to add a couple of snaps to be able to keep an inside door screen open when the screen was not in use. I've used similar kits before so my prior experience with installing snaps helped make the installation of these snaps even easier. I recommend this kit as it does what it's intended to do at a modest price with no sacrifice in quality.I would, however, like to make a few suggestions to you, dear reader, with regard to the installation - especially if you're a first-time user/novice:1. Make sure you have a good, full-size hammer (not a small or miniature one as it will not do the job).2. Make sure you're reasonably adept at using said hammer (i.e. reasonably good hand strength, hand-to-eye coordination, etc.). Your fingers and your nerves will be the better for it.3. I recommend pre-measuring carefully before installing the snaps. As the old adage goes...measure twice, cut once (I tend to measure way more than twice to accommodate my innate go-too-fast tendencies).4. I recommend marking the material with a marker once you're sure of where you want to install the snaps and then piercing the matierial carefully (a sharp, narrow awl helps with this) to create a small hole through which to place the shank (stud) of the snap - this helps keep it in position whilst you're using the hammer to secure the snap to the material.5. Lastly, but by no means least, make sure you have a solid substrate upon which to work - like a cement cinder block or stone of some sort that's firmly in place as you'll need to give these (and any snap like these) a few good firm taps/whacks with your hammer and having a solid foundation to work on is key to success - again, your fingers, your nerves (and your significant other if you have one) will be thankful. One last thing - as the old joke goes... when all else fails, follow the directions ( ). But joking aside, as with all things - it's wise to thoroughly read AND COMPREHEND the directions FIRST, BEFORE YOU BEGIN. This last point I cannot sress enough.Well, that's it for me. Off the soap box I will get and away I shall put it.I highly recommend this product.I hope this review was found to be helpful.Good luck! 5I ordered 1ea 1265 snaps/tools kit and it arrived with ... I ordered 1ea 1265 snaps/tools kit and it arrived with the correct number and types of parts & the two tools. I ordered 2ea 1266 snap refill kits and they both arrived with only 3 of 4 parts needed, I am returning them for replacements. I just used the 1265 on 3/32"/.0885"/2.26MM thick leather and they worked OK. On the first one I set I hit the tool too hard and split the "hollow stud" that folds over to hold the snap. But after that the rest of them installed without problems. Other than the two 1266 kits not having all of the 4 parts A-B-C-D needed to make a complete fastener these are OK. These are definitely light duty, not medium or heavy duty. Update - The replacements sent by Amazon are missing parts, once again. Now the only option is a refund. What am I supposed to do with the punch tools if I can't get the parts to use them with? Definitely a fail. 1The best problem with doing it this way was not the ... I have never installed a button before. I would always just take it to a guy that would charge me 5 bucks a button to do it. This is not something that would happen very often. Maybe 6 or 7 years one would come apart and need to be fixed. The best problem with doing it this way was not the money but getting the seat to him and then getting it back. I finally decided to try this my self. I bought the kit with the tool and another kit with just some extra buttons. Turns out it was very easy to fix this button as a matter of fact I removed all 9 of the other buttons and replaced them as well. Our boat is all ways in salt water and the original buttons are chrome plated brass, I think, and that is what I went back with. I seen that you can pay more and do this in stainless steel for more money in tools and parts. I figured if my old ones lasted 14 years in this environment the new ones would as well. 5Good enough for the price. I purchased this kit and the 6 snap refill kit for a small project (I needed 10).After getting about five snaps on, I noticed the tool was deforming. Instead of neatly flaring the insert, it was smashing it. The more I did, the worse the tool got.I was able to finish the 10 snaps, but I wouldnt use this tool for many more.If you want something you can use over and over, spend more money and get something that can take repeated use. If, like me, you wanted something cheap that you can use for one project, this kit is for you. Just don't expect to get more than ~10 snaps out of the tool. 3Love it. Good quality metal, easy to do. Saved a $30 pair of pants! I bought this to replace a snap that failed on my nice slacks. It was much easier than I expected to replace the snap, and it looks very professional. Materials are high-quality from what I have seen so far. It only took me 20 minutes or so to do the whole process, and that's with my 2-year-old distracting me and while making a video of the process! 5Perfect for clothing and crafts. The buttons are one size and come with enough to make a few mistakes if youre looking for just a pair of buttons like i was (to keep the collar on my motorcycle jacket from flapping while riding). I smashed one of the pieces by putting it in the wrong order durong assembly. Please follow directions carefully. All in all it was easy to assemble and took merely a few minutes. Snaps are good and solid and i trust them for normal, daily use, even on other applications where the snaps would be used more than i use on my application. Good for crafts and clothing alike 5High Quality and Durability. I bought these snap fastener refills because I bought the original General Tools Snap Applier and the snaps it had in it and I loved it. I used the snaps to apply to outdoor drapes I had made and wanted to be able to secure them together without having them tear or having the velcro come off with a heavy wind gust. These snaps have been on the outdoor drapes for about 8 months now and they have stayed secure, have not ripped the fabric, and were very easy to apply to the drapes. I was a little worried they would rust being in a very wet Florida weather or they would deteriorate from the sun as they get direct sunlight, but they have held up excellent! They have not rusted at all, they are secure, and they look very nice. They really added to the elegance of the area, looking like they are brand new. I am not sure if they would work with another snap applier but they look like they would. They were easy to find, easy to order, and easy to apply. A quick and easy solution for fastening outdoor drapes in a windy, wet, and sunny area. 5
