Everything was great for qbout a week. The lids quiet close broke as well as the magnets holding the crusher to the lid. Very disappointed. 2I had a problem as soon as I started using ... I had a problem as soon as I started using it. The lid (krusher handle) would fall off everytime I opened and closed. not worth the money for this product. 1Easier to hop into the can We moved from a house that had a trash compactor. Since most of our stuff is recycled these days we used the compactor for all of the recyclable. The house we just moved into doesn't have a compactor and it didn't take long to realize how much of a convenience it was. We don't have room for a built in compactor so when I saw this I thought a solution might be at hand. It is okay, not great. You have to practice getting the magnetic crusher portion to sit securely in the lid. Not big deal. The problem is that it is awkward to push the presser down into the garbage can and then re seat it into the lid. If you are putting a lot of cans or big plastic bottles in the trash then it will be a problem. It is easier to put the pusher into the can and then open the lid and hop onto the top of the crusher. We are two guys in the house and it is not easy for either of us to smash the jugs and cans down using one arm. The goal was to minimize the need to take the trash out to the bin. With the compactor it lasted the entire week unless we had a party. Without the compactor and before this one we had to take trash out every other day. With this we are between every other day and every third day - not that big of a difference given all of the effort. I am not looking at stand alone compactors. 2More trash, Less Bags Used I realized one day, with the price of trash bags, I felt I really wanted to get my monies worth out of the bags. I got the trash krusher (manuel). I get more into one trash bag and the trip to the trash can has decreased. You have to use your own body weight and strength to push down on the handle but it is worth it. 5Bad design, good quality and appearance is nice Nice quality, its a little to nasty having to put your hand in the trash can to press down and compact the contain of it. Bad design. 3Great Idea, but Impractical in Actual Use It's a very nice-looking, solidly-built stainless steel trash can for a kitchen. The compactor idea is a "waste," though. A) the magnets aren't that strong. You have to really snap the plunger handle back up into the lid. B) Also found it's not fun to stick your arm repeatedly into a trash can just to smoosh it down, and then clean the smasher handle, get ketchup off your arm, etc. C) using it tears and stretches the garbage bag if you push more than halfway down (it gets stopped halfway down by air pressure, anyway). It's a pretty good idea, but in application, turns out to be somewhat klugy. A $50 stainless can is better than a $130 compactor you're really not going to use after a couple tries at it. Looks nice, though. I'm keeping it, not returning it, because it's too much hassle for me to return it. If you're not putting food waste in the can, it'd probably be good for compacting plastic, paper, and aluminum. At $70, this would be a 4-5 star item (without the Krusher). 3There are better trash-compacting mechanisms out there. I probably should have read the reviews a bit more thoroughly before getting this product because I didn't realize that the trash compactor mechanism is simply that the center piece in the lid detaches downwards so you can push the trash down without getting your hands dirty. I've used other trash cans that had this mechanism spring-loaded and I found those to be much easier to use and far more practical.Most annoyingly with this product, if you flip the lid up too quickly and it hits a wall or something behind the trash can, the compactor will pop out and just fall into your trash can. I hope it's not landing in anything too disgusting because this happens quite often. You need to space the trash can a few inches away from the wall so that the lid doesn't hit and usually the compactor will stay attached. I'm most worried that after enough use, the compactor simply won't clip back in well anymore. We'll see...One of the nice things though about this trash can is that it seems to be a perfect fit for the tall kitchen bags. If you fill the trash can completely it's still able to cinch up the bag and it doesn't seem too full. 3Cheap plastic doesn't hold up I have had this can for 9 months and the screws that attach the lid frame to the base have all come out because they were set in cheap plastic. As you use the lid opening the plastic weakens and breaks apart - VERY disappointing as it is not repairable. 2Handsome Garbage Can! This looks good. The shininess doesn't get all smeared up and best of all you can easily compress your trash to avoid excessive emptying. My daughter loved it and she is ordering one. Worth the price to me who was used to an automatic trash compacter in my previous home. 5Weak magnets and low grade stainless. Magnets holding the Krusher part up are too weak. The Krusher routinely falls into the garbage. We live on a boat and rust is a constant problem in the salt air. This can says it is stainless steel, but magnets easily stick to it and it started rusting in just 6 months. Neither of those things should happen, especially for the price of $160. Good concept, but poor execution. Won't buy again without serious improvements. 2
