Customer Reviews

Terrible Product - Leaked despite several atempts to resolve I purchased two of these to upgrade my the water filtration system in my new RV. When they arrived, I really liked the housings. They looked hefty and seemed pretty good quality for the price. I settled on these because of the price and pretty positive reviews. I installed them following the other suggestions for using a generous amount of PTFE tape on the fitting threads.Well today I tested the system... and I couldn't be more disappointed or angered with this product. I had both canisters on tight (no filters installed yet). I pressurized the system to about 35 psi and these things leaked... boy, did they leak... like seriously leaked... not a drip now and then.. a nearly constant drip. By the time a grabbed a towel and shut off the water, the whole front storage compartment of the RV was wet. I studied the housings to locate the leaks. One of the threaded fittings was leaking a little. I guess I wasn't generous enough with the tape on that one. However, the majority of the water was leaking from where the canister threads into the head. BOTH were leaking from the same spot where the top of the canister meets the head. Based on that, I figured that I didn't tighten them enough. I cranked down on them as hard as I could and they leaked just as much. I even carefully cleaned the top of the canister, threads, and head in the event that some dirt was preventing a good seal. No luck, still leaked. See the attached photos. This product really needs a rubber o-ring where the two parts thread together and meet. I think these things were rated for something like 75 psi, if they can't handle half that pressure, then these things are seriously defective. If one was leaking... okay, maybe got a bad one, it happens.. but BOTH!? I really want to make these work as I'm not happy about crawling back under there and dismantling them. I thought about trying to get a gasket of some sort or putting PTFE tape on the canister threads. However, I don't want to take the chance that they may start leaking again and risk serious water damage to a brand new RV. Since I made this modification, the warrantee won't cover something like this . I also don't see the purpose of trying to make something function that should initially function correctly. What a waste of money and time! I'm only glad these were terrible right from the start rather than discovering they leaked at a later time with a soggy floor and water damage.SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR TIME. Don't buy this poorly made product and risk getting water damage wherever you install it, otherwise, put a bucket under it just in case. 1Threads are not pipe thread and fittings are too loose Threaded holes are not pipe thread and fittings fit too loosely. Even with 10 wraps of heavy grade Teflon tape they are loose and leak. I don't recommend it. 1but not great. Doesn't help it wasn't packaged very well and ... Cheap, but not great. Doesn't help it wasn't packaged very well and was unprotected on one side so came with two chinks out of the sides when the box was dropped. Even still, no structural damage, but holy crap the threads are loose. Prepare to use a LOT of thread tape to keep it sealed, and look closely at the specs because it's only rated for 75psi. Living in an apartment with poor municipal water, so was using this under the sink, but I think it'll be safer hooked to the shower where it has a place to drain when this thing starts leaking again. 2I don't know what the fuss is all about I am an engineer and needed a cheap 1/2 water canister for sediment filtration for a project. I set three of these for one to be hooked to the cold water supply and having all hooked up one after another with an apec 10" filter set. This works great!!! I spet 89 dollars for a 400 dollar system essentially. I get an incredible amount of flow out of it, i would guess close to 175 gph but I have it hooked up to a sharkbite T peice which is then followed by a pressure reducer on the straight and a 50 foot hose on the tip. This works wonderfully and would recommend for anyone. If you get a bad one just return and get another. Great product. 4Leaks.... Have worked with filters for years, this one though has a leaking issue. No mater what I do, the o-ring will not seal, appears to be too small and the unit bottoms out when tightning before enough preassure is applied to the o-ring to generate a seal. 1All Plastic, good for price, need to fiddle with seals, not for mass production or contractors All Plastic use a lot of Teflon tape to seal. As others have said it is hard to get a leak proof seal. I used brass on the outlet and the threads fit tighter. I also tried nylon and plastic 1/2" MPT and those bottom out on the head seat. The inlet set actually cracked inward but housing head still usable . I bout 4 of them and one was missing an o-ring, you cannot find at hardware and Amazon does not sell them. It was 90 days until I got around to installing, to late to return. So check your order right away! Finally found 0-ring online. Don't bother calling Hydronix if you need much detail they refer to a dealer and dealer knows even less. I had to buy the bracket separately white off of >-bay shipped from China, even then not low cost. I definitely would not use these in a commercial installation, to much trouble to bring online. Even though price is good I will try another brand with more parts available. PS, o-ring part# is HF2/3-oring and it fits the HF2 and HF3 . 4Solid product, high quality No wrenches provided to remove the filter. No mounting bracket provided. Probably not needed. If you are using plastic fittings you need to be certain the threads are perfect, or you will have a leak. Also, some cheap fittings will bottom out before they are tight in the correct position. You might be able to use o-rings instead of plumbers tape if needed.Plan ahead so the fittings can be removed later if needed. 5Great filter housing I use this to filter water for brewing beer. They work great. They are made of plastic material, so be careful if you are planning on threaded metal nipples into them. I bought some polyethylene nipples to hopefully keep that from happening - so far so good. With a bit of teflon tape on the threads i was able to get everything to seal up nicely without much fuss. Pair it will some RV hose and and a nice cartridge filter you have a cheap and easy portable water filter. I'm not sure why it took me so long to buy something like this with the amount of money spent on store-bought water for my lighter beers. I guess i always imagined them being a lot more expensive than a couple dozen gallons of store bought water. 5Very pleased with the quality of this cartridge housing Very pleased with the quality of this cartridge housing. It says "clear" but is actually as shown bluish purple see through. Heavy duty and well-built. Snug perfect fit for the carbon filter cartridge. I am configuring a shower head with a carbon filter to reduce chlorine/ monochloramine from our TERRIBLE city water.in SW Florida. Will order more to daisy chain as add-on to my reverse osmosis system. 5Company Installed Orings, now no leaks Conducted a function test with no leaks detected. There is actually an o ring under the lid to stop water from leaking out. 5
