Keep clean, use small quantity of oil cooking spray. I love it! I used this product to make my Venezuelan Arepas, Eggs, Small pancakes for my Kids and everyone at home, work fantastic, I had my first one for 5 years, was damaged because I used a lot trough through all this years, it was time for new one, even travel with it because my Kids loves Arepas!! 5Good not GREAT I am Venezuelan and have used other Arepa Makers before. In my opinion Oyster is the best brand: sturdy and the teflon doesn't scratch. The IMUSA Arepa maker is quick and makes arepas of medium width.The timer is not optimal, it has no sound to indicate the arepas are done and the light is not reliable. So you need to open it up and check from time to time. The teflon is already scratched, not badly but it is scratched after a few uses.If you desperately need one (my case) this is a good option, if you can wait and get the Oyster that is the best option. 3Love it so far! Bought this after my Oster TostiArepa from Venezuela burned out after almost 10 years of daily use! I was hesitant to try another brand, but there are not any areperas for sale where I live so my choices were limited to what Amazon had to offer. I am so happy with this purchase. The shape of the arepas is different from the Oster TostiArepa, but they are more similar to what my Venezuelan grandmother used to make for me growing up!!! I don't know if it will last as long as my Oster, but so far I'm in love!!! 5We was very happy to finally get a Tostiarepa We were very happy to finally get a Tostiarepa, however, after 4 months of using it on and off, it stopped working. Be advised, this product in Amazon is not eligible for returning. Very disappointed. 1Not just for arepas..... I am really happy with this item, it serves as a multi purpose appliance. When Cooking arepas, It is difficult to calculate the amount of masa to use.They recommend to cook for about 7 minutes. I have found that to have good results is by making my arepa round and cooking it for 5 minutes then flipping the arepa and then cook for another 4 minutes and it is perfect. This appliance is also great for cooking eggs for bagels sandwiches, small pancakes (just make sure to lightly oil the surface, otherwise they will stick). I recommend using a silicone utensil to flip or remove your food items from this device as the non-stick coating is easy to chip, I used a plastic fork to remove an egg once and I managed to chip a tiny bit of the coating off in one of the wells.There are two lights on this device (red and green), on mine when I plug it in both lights light up immediately, still works. The item does get very hot so be careful, the open/close handle is cool to the touch. It does not make a sound to notify you that the item is ready to use. 5Mi aliado en la cocina !! This makes arepa-making extremely simple. This machine is easy to use. Cooks fast. Cleans up even faster. There's no on/off switch. Just plug it in, put in your arepas, and close. The arepas come out cooked, but not browned. And, yes, pan frying does make for a crispier arepa, but the machine wins big over pan-frying on preparation and clean-up.I've yet to try to use the wells for anything other than arepas, so I can't opine about how this would work for that. 5Mine died in 20 months. First thing's first, I've had several arepas explode due to pressure the moment I open this thing. Obviously this is just a toaster so I'm not saying it's injecting them with nitroglycerin or anything but it never happened with my other tostiarepas over the years so I'm a bit skeptical... For the record, my arepa dough is just water, salt and Harina PAN (the yellow packet; white flour).With that out of the way, let's talk about quality. I owned this thing for 20 months as the title of my review says and it died on me a week or two ago - no power. Interestingly, a few weeks before, I went to a friend's arepada (arepa party) and she had the same model of tostiarepa. Well after the first round of arepas, she put a second round in to cook and it died on her at that moment. Kinda sucked to have an arepada with 4 arepas.I'm Venezuelan and I eat arepas almost every day and I hate that Oster stopped making tostiarepas; those were the decent quality ones in my experience.And one last detail: sometimes this thing would open up on its own due to pressure (from just 1 arepa!). The plastic clip that holds it closed is badly designed in my opinion. 2Not hot enough, cups too big The temperature is not high enough to produce a brown toasted outer look.The quantity of dough required to fill each cup is too much to cook it in the measured time, nor in any reasonable amount of time. The final product is either not cooked uniformly or, it is overcooked.Timer and temperature lights are not intuitive (I don't read manuals for devices that are this simple.)I will say though, I rather enjoyed them even though I'm an amateur. I guess I should have asked if it came with a booklet. like the blind leading the blind, I will write a better review if I can find a recipe booklet. 3
