Customer Reviews

Excellent product and fantastic customer service! ****UPDATE****After I posted the initial review, the manufacturer contacted me and informed me that the UV stage of the product has been redesigned. The new UV ballast now includes a water flow sensor, and the UV bulb will only turn on when the water is flowing. Therefore the water does is not heated. The only flaw in this device has been completely remedied. The seller/manufacturer sent me the new, upgraded parts FREE OF CHARGE, even though I had purchased the unit almost 2 years earlier.I can't say enough about this level of customer service. As stated in my initial review, everything has worked perfectly with this unit for the 2 years I've owned it.UPGRADED TO 5 STARS and Highly recommended.****ORIGINAL REVIEW****I've been using this daily for 2 years with no issues, except one small thing- The first couple of cups of water that comes out of it during each use is HOT due to the ultraviolet bacterial-killing stage. That is the only reason for the 4-star rating instead of 5. This is only a minor inconvenience in most cases, but...I installed a "T" fitting and a pair of on/off valves from the local home improvement store so I could feed the output both to the sink faucet and my refrigerator's icebox. Worked fine at first, but the very high water temperature at the output damaged the O-rings in the aftermarket cut-off valves after only a couple of months. However, I still recommend this unit overall. It would be nice if they had a thermal cut-off switch on the UV. Then it would be perfect for its capacity and price. 5Had some issue, excellent phone based customer service and everything is good now Update 9/7/2014 - Everything is still working good, no more issues... TDS still along the lines listed on JulyUpdate 7/20/2014 - Everything works great now.. Alkaliner is in and no negative taste... water inlet measures 300~450 TDS, ..Running on a well and seems like every time there is a heavy rain the TDS picks up a bit... or when we went away for the weekend and came back it was a bit high and dropped off... outlet starts near 30 and drops down as it runs to around 15~17 TDS.So, Color me a happy customer now.. the initial instal/fit problems with the spout not really the companies issue since every sink is different. Also when fiddling I figured out my real problem with the hoses initially.. they were out of round a bit and wouldn't push all the way in.. now that I have the 'feel' for it, simple to tell what is right and wrong.RobertUpdate 7/12/2014 - Received the box of parts a couple of days ago but just got it in today.1. The new pump is absolutely silent - Have to touch it to know it is running, so if you hear yours it is defective. Took about an hour to get it in.. mostly with finding some heat-shrink tubing and my heat gun.. have to take apart the all the filters to get to the screws. --- if you get a replacement pump ask for heat-shrink as well, I had some laying around, but most people don't....2. New blue clips are all in seems I was missing a couple of others as well I hadn't seen and he sent extras so all is well3. Taste is still pending - New alkalizer cartridge is in for now and after I flush it a few times I ought to know if I just had a defective one or not.Verdict - Gonna keep it and marking it up to 5 stars... it isn't perfect, but very pleased with the company and the filter even if I end up dropping the alkalizer again.RobertUpdate 7/7/2014 - Received a call back, figured it would be after the holiday weekend.Very helpful:The alkaline filter was my taste issue... He is sending a new one to try out, and some tubing to leave it bypassed if it doesn't make it better.Let him listen to the booster pump and it is defective/going bad and he is sending along a new one of those.Sending out spare blue clipsBought "iSpring 100GPD 7-Stage Reverse Osmosis RO UV Alkaline Water Filter System with Booster Pump" from Amazon and installed it 6/28/2014My skill level: Very handy - I do my own plumbing and sweat copper pipes or replace valves as needed.Installation: 2 hours - mostly spent figuring out how it was supposed to go, fixing leaks, and figuring out how to mount the tap on the sink.Good: Simple install with easy connectionsBadMissing two of the blue clips (have contacted them, but haven't heard back yet) - used an E-clip from the toolbox until they send me the proper bit. Waiting on them to call me back so they can ship me the two clips. All the tubes had to be trimmed 1/4", they seem to have been cut with a heated blade at the factory and are just enough out of round to cause leaks.. trim them and they work fine.Instructions - Online Video is a must see and good - printed instructions need some serious work - The pictures don't match the filter, tube colors not printed on the pictures, etc... just needs a complete re-do by someone installing each type unit verse trying to be genericRO tap for the top of the sink - I used the sprayer hose hole verse drilling something new - the tap is WAY to small for this and with my sink being cast iron they hole is a bit over 1/4" thick... so the mounting hardware completely useless. Ended up cutting a piece of metal out in the garage and drilling a hole in it to feed the thing through and span the gap. A strap for this or a plastic spacer included in the kit would have been nice and saved me 20 minutes of fiddling in the garage to make something work.Usage - I've drained and refilled it about 10 times since install - it has a funky taste to it I was assuming from the tank, but to test I've removed the alkaline filter to verify that it isn't the cause. This is the second topic I am waiting on a call-back from Ispring on.How it works - The numbers - I also bought the dual TDS (total dissolved solids) in-line meter so I could have numbers to watch and see when to change the filters verse just guessing.TDS at the inlet is approx 300PPM... I confirmed this with an aquarium water test kit... my GH and KH are both pretty high....Outlet TDS in the tube feeding the tap:with alkaline filter in - first cup or two of water - 180 TDS - after that it drops quickly to 27~30 TDS.With the alkaline filter out - around 15~18 TDSMy conclusion is that the alkaline filter DOES something, but unless you are only taking a cup at a time and letting it build up again it doesn't add a lot.The Booster pump - Wow, for what it is and does it is LOUD - not as loud as an old school dishwasher, but an annoying clank/clatter to be sure. It is mounted on a cradle that has rubber washers to the bracket so they tried something, but the clatter comes from the pump itself. Going to ask them about this when I talk to them as well. Conclusion - It seems to do the job of filtering, but unless we can get to the bottom of the taste issue I'll return it. If I do keep it I'll probably wrap the pump in some dynamat to kill the noise. If they call me back and we solve the missing parts and taste issue I'll probably raise the rating from 3 stars to 5. If they don't call me back and make it right I'll return it.Robert 5At 8 hours post install, this seems to be a great system. At 8 hours post install, this seems to be a great system. The situation: I recently moved to my dream house on acreage in the Texas Hill Country. We are on well water here with a softener system. My under counter ice machine, from which I usually take a 5-gallon bucket of ice every day, was producing little more than a gallon or two of ice with the poor quality water at the new home. Research led me to understand that these ice machines need a larger volume of water than most RO systems produce and a higher pressure than most RO systems provide. After researching different systems, I decided this one would fit my needs for a fair price. The downside: I am a very skilled Craftsman with a high level of dexterity and mechanical inclination. I didn't time the installation, but I'm assuming it took an hour or two. The system isn't impossibly complex, but the system that arrived was different than both the directions that came with it and the YouTube video. The YouTube video was very informative for sure, but also left a lot to be desired. If you're unable to reverse engineering what the guy is doing in the video and apply it to your specific setup that may look different than his, then I think this will be very difficult to install. The words he used when referring to different filters didn't match the wording that was printed on the filters. More problematic than that was that the connection at the storage tank kept leaking. Dealing with this probably accounted for a quarter to a third of my total install time. After at least five attempts at threading the valve onto the tank just to have it slowly leak when I charged the system, I finally quit using the Teflon tape they sent with the unit and used some professional grade Blue Monster Teflon tape that I own and the problem was solved on the first attempt with that. The upside: The system seems to do a great job at producing larger volumes of water and higher pressures. The quick connect fittings are relatively easy to use. The system came with extra parts so the couple of little fitting pieces that either were missing from the unit or I lost during installation weren't a big deal because there were some extras. While the unit is a little disorderly, it's also a lot of stuff crammed very efficiently into a compact assembly. It might be a lot for under a sink, but fortunately mine is in the utility room behind the ice machine. The future: I don't trust the number of plastic tubes and small fittings. This is unavoidable as far as I can tell, so it's not detracting from the five star rating that I really feel like this product deserves. On the incoming water line, I'm going to install a solenoid controlled, normally closed valve. I'll have a switch tied into my home automation systems so it can be turned off remotely. Additionally, I'm going to add an array of moisture sensors under the unit and set up a basic ITTT (if this then that) sequence that will automatically shut the water off to this system within 5 seconds of moisture detection. Also, with using a normally closed valve which requires electrical current to remain open, the valve will close automatically in the event of any power interruption so my home will still be protected. With this kind of protection, the most water that could flood my home would be what is held in the system's reservoir tank.Final thoughts: I bought this unit to serve my struggling ice machine. 8 hours after installation of this RO unit, the same ice machine has almost filled its reservoir with crystal clear ice. The RO unit is serving its purpose beautifully! The ice machine is actually producing better looking ice, and faster, than it did on our previous city water supply. I'm glad this unit was available for me to purchase and I have no reason to believe that it'll be anything but great. I will update this review if my opinion changes. 5GREAT SYSTEM. HIGH QUALITY. EASY TO INSTALL I m very happy with this system. I bought the 7 stage unit and installed it in my basement just under my kitchen sink. The pump is quiet and the UV filter comes on only when there is a flow of water. It was easy to install and it provides a great peace of mind knowing my water is safer than most peoples in my neighborhood especially with all the contaminated water supplies happening in Michigan and everywhere. All the components look to be of high quality and I had no leaks. Here is a what the TDS reader I bought from iSpring reads (see photos) - Regular tap water VS the R.O. Water- 272 VS 18 5... want to start by saying kudos to iSpring for excellent documentation. This product could be considered somewhat difficult ... I want to start by saying kudos to iSpring for excellent documentation. This product could be considered somewhat difficult to install if it wasn t for the detailed step by step directions. I also recommend the youtube video. Why did we purchase this product?Fish were dying. LOL. Yes that correct our aquarium fish were dying and we wanted to know why. In the process of troubleshooting the aquarium issue, we found out the KH Hardness (Carbonate hardness) of our well water was off the chart. Over 214 ppm. My wife researched the effects of consuming water with high Carbonate hardness levels. You don t want to know. Or perhaps you do. OK so the fish were acting like the canary in the coal mine. So yes we purchased a $350 filter so we can get clean water for our fish. Just kidding. It was obvious after my wife s research that we needed to do something for our health. In fact we we're concerned that we consumed this water for years without this filter. Why we chose to purchase the pump optionIn my research, I learned that the model that included a pump (for use with low water pressure areas) would create less wastewater during the filter process. This was a concern because we have a septic system so we went for the extra $40. It turns out that with or without the pump the amount of wastewater produced is equal to about 1 2 toilette flushes but with the pump, it s less. How much less? Good question. Sorry, I don t know the answer. The InstallBecause we purchased the model with the pump and UV light I needed to run electric into the cabinet (next to the sink). This was 50% of my install time. It was n t too bad. I have an understanding of electric but if you don t you will need to hire an electrician. Read the install manual and watch the youtube video. When you open the box it is somewhat intimidating. Lots of hoses. Thanks to iSpring they are all a different color. The install is indeed quite easy as long as you follow the steps. Because we still use the cabinet for pots and pans, I did decide to build a removable wood box around the filter to protect. My fear was a hose would get pulled out while grabbing a pan. To be honest I m worrying for no good reason. The quick connect feature of the hoses are rock solid. The waterWOW. OK now we can reap the reward. The water does indeed taste better. What should water taste like? Well not like it has been for all the years without a filter. We also noticed a difference with the coffee. We purchased a connect kit for the refrigerator ($20 from iSpring) so the same filtered water is used for ice. (We didn t know that ice could be so clear) Not to mention we will now save $$$ because we no longer need the GE refrigerator water filter.ProsI think I mentioned most of the pros above. After the cost of the filter, I can expect to pay less than $100 per a year for maintenance. I list this as a pro because it seems reasonable. Several filters are included in a 12-month kit. Install was on the easy side. Quality materials used for the product. Can fill the 3.2-gallon tank in just about 40 minutes.ConsA lot of hoses. OK OK they are all needed but still a lot of hoses. One con is with RO filters in general. You can run out of the filtered water. As mentioned above, the 3.2-gallon tank can be filled in about 40 minutes but the fact that you can run out is a con. Perhaps a 5-gallon tank would be better. I guess I could upgrade the tank if this is a big issue.Bottom line is I would recommend this product. It s well worth the money and now my fish are happy. Oh I should mention that the Carbonate hardness level of the filtered water is zero. I thought the test kit was broken. I expected the level to be lower but not zero. 5Great Product and Smooth Install The installation went smoothly and took a little longer than expected, but then again, I have never done this before. There was at least one minor hiccup and that was due to a missing Feed Water Valve that tech support readily and quickly replaced. I am now waiting to contact tech support again for what appears to be a non-operational UVC-Ballast. There appears to be two indicator lights on there to inform you whether or not the UVC-Ballast is functional when water is detected flowing through it. However, I have never seen any of the indicator lights turn on while water was flowing.A few suggestions prior to tackling the installation of this product on your own.1. Make note of the dimensions to ensure proper fit: System Dimensions: 14.5w x 7d x 19h2. Read the directions, read directions, read directions (I actually searched and downloaded a PDF version prior to arrival)3. Watch the recommended YouTube videos and if possible, have it on the ready to watch while installing. Any confusion that some may have experienced with the written instructions should be eliminated after watching the videos at least a couple of times.4. Lay out all of the parts to make sure they are all there. The system comes nearly fully assembled and the pictures of the parts come in handy, however, I would prefer an actual listing along with the pictures. Nevertheless, the pictures tell you almost exactly what is there (spares state that they vary).5. Decide where your RO system will go and that includes the tank. Fortunately, I had enough space and I was able to construct something to hold the system in place that will also allow me to remove the filters in place or remove the entire system out at once (leaving the tank).6. There is no need to hook up the RO faucet if you plan on directly connecting to a water cooler or refrigerator. That is what I did. However, keep in mind that you need to flush the system prior to first use and therefore you should keep the line that will dispense the clean water (RO water) handy and with at least one valve on the end of it to control the flow of water.7. When you do bleed the line for the first time, you may have to turn on the pump for that to work. I did. The instructions state not to turn it on. However, nothing was coming out and when I did turn on the pump, water began to very slowly trickle out. I let mine sit for at least 30 minutes before following the next steps in System Startup. I had some apprehension at first, but when the tank was connected, the flow was more acceptable. (Sorry no flow rate meters were attached). My TDS Monitor readings were as follows:Input: 315 to 317Output of RO: 15 to 17.This is the TDS Monitor I am using: HM Digital DM-1 In-Line Dual TDS Monitorhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EHAZGW/ref=od_aui_detailpages02?ie=UTF8&psc=1If I had to do it again, I would go with the iSpring RCS5T 500 GPD Commercial Grade (https://www.amazon.com/iSpring-RCS5T-Commercial-Tankless-Reverse/dp/B00PCRSD7I/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8). This unit comes without a tank, but it does have the frame. That would have been a real time saver and I do value my time! 5550 ppm down to 25-40 ppm. I'll take it. Current set up: Well water run through a water softener and sediment house filter, registered readings at 550-600 ppm. After this unit installed registered between 25-40 ppm. Tested bottle water at 22 ppm, so I'll take it coming off a well. Very clean taste. Not only does this save us having to buy water, it was more the hassle of time spent filling 12+ gallons at a time. Should pay for itself over two-three years.Next, elevated purchase to this advanced unit specifically for the booster pump. The prior ispring well system recommended a minimum 45 psi system, which we were borderline at that mark - unknown to work. These need pressure to work. This unit boosted the pressure to allow for as low as 30 psi. I can see why, and am glad I order this unit.Setbacks:1. Currently unsure if the UV filter is working. No indicator lights showing on the unit as working, or otherwise. Appears as a dead unit. Will follow up with the company for a potential replacement piece, but currently very happy with what I've received so far. No leaks, easy to set up.2. Double check your connections against the manual. I noticed mine while it arrived pre-assembled, was assembled incorrectly just prior to the UV filter. An honest mistake I suspect. Not the end of the world, but just double check. I will say, it was welcome that this came mostly assembled. Thanks! The remaining installation appeared complex, but was rather easy. Watch the youtube video first, follow the manual, examine your unit, and then watch the youtube video for any potential follow up. It's a breeze. This is a first day review, and very happy with what I am seeing so far. 5Some issues, but in the end it works good We have had this unit since September, 2017. In the beginning we did have some issues with the unit. First, the UV would not turn off, so they sent us a new connector and unfortunately it was the wrong one. So, we explained to the company that it was the smaller connector, even took a picture of it and sent it to them. The first representative was very confident that he knew and for me not to worry he would send it to us, well second connector came and it too was wrong. They were very apologetic and sent us the correct connector the next time. We were still drinking our water even though the light was on all the time, I personally just did not like the water getting so warm so if were gone through the day and every night I would unplug the unit until we were about to take our first draw and then we just flushed it a little for taste. The second issue was the tank was leaking and again they were very helpful and sent us some more tape and a rubber casket for the top, but we felt the tape was just to low of quality so, we bought some thicker tape and ended up not having to use the casket they sent and it has not leaked since. So, our Suggestion is be very careful and make sure everything is lined up properly and it is well worth going out and purchasing a better quality tape. Third, we were very disappointed that for whatever reason it took them a full 2 months to get our unit to us. We really felt that was an excessive amount of time. However, despite my complaints my husband was able to get the unit together and working and as a whole it works well. Our water is a deep well and we have had our water tested before the unit was put in and it is extremely soft water, that does have an odor. Our TDS was in the 500 s and after flushing we were able to get our numbers down into the high teens and low 20 s. I have not tested lately, however, just this week we did order a set of more filters due to our odor coming back pretty strong and in our case instead of just changing I believe, filter 2 & 5 we have decided to replace 1, 2, 3 & 5. This is more of a personal preference to help keep our quality high. The minerals being put back in looks like it probably has a good 2 months left and they say that the membrane only has to be replaced every 2 to 3 years. The odor and taste filters for sure did not last 6 months and we know for a fact we have not gone through 1500 gallons of water, however, we are still pleased, because we figure in 4 months we purchased at the very least $40.00 worth of water at the store and the 4 filters only cost a little over $27 and that is supplying drinking water for three households. So in the end we feel like the unit deserves 5 stars, even though we had some issues in the beginning, it has worked well and we enjoy being able to have the convenience of drinking the water right from our faucet. 5Tastes great! Can be good water for steamers. I hooked this up with two taps. The standard tap after the UV and mineralization filters and the second tap before the mineralizer by installing a tee and second valve in the line. This provides just very pure RO deionized water great for steam irons, humidifiers, and mixing window cleaners. Here are my results from measuring my water PH and the dissolved solid contents in parts per million. PH PPMTap 7.55 - 7.64 190RO 7.27 - 7.35 3RO+M 10.34 - 10.50 25The unit adds back just a touch of minerals and adds alkaline for truly great tasting drinking and cooking water. Very pleased with unit. It will produce almost two gallons of water pretty quickly from the reserve tank, then it turns into a slow trickle when tank is exhausted. It turns my chlorinated crappy tasting city tap water into pure contaminate free water that tastes and refreshes as well as the best bottled waters. 5Fantastic Unit, good quality, instructions are easy to follow. Good buy! This is a fantastic system and easy to set up. If you know how to use a drill, read instructions you will have this unit set up and running in about 30 minutes. So happy to have this unit. My wife and I have been buying 2 gallon jugs from the grocery store because I did not want us drinking the tap water where we live. We would go through roughly 4 of these a week. The trash / waste that resulted from trowing these plastic jugs away was getting absurd. So happy to have this unit in our house. Clean RO water that has been re-mineralized so it doesn't leech your body of vital nutrients, on tap! What's not to love? 5
