Customer Reviews

Do not buy for KL26M1XOB stand mixer. I liked the coating. However it does not come close to mixing the dough. I was trying to make a batch of English muffin bread, and this dough hook left about a 1/2 inch on the sides of the bowl which I had to scrape, and scrape. I am sorry to have to pan this dough hook I have had great results in the past with kitchenaid mixers. I even went to Kitchenaid's web site to make sure that I had selected the right hook. I am sorry to say that the part # was correct. It is worthless. 1A "Huge" Upgrade over the C-hook! (Might require a transmission upgrade.) Much more effective than the old C-shaped dough hook. We make a lot of pizza dough, and it always climbs the C-hook and just spins; this one forces it down and kneads it thoroughly.Kitchenaid says not to use this on older Pro 6 (KP2671) mixers like mine, due to the upward thrust created, but a careful review of the parts diagrams reveals that the newer Pro 600 (KP26M1X) has a similar transmission, and by swapping the planetary, the transmission housing, worm gear, washers and gaskets, the Pro 6 transmission could be upgraded to Pro 600 specs.I'm going to gamble, and if it gets noisy or it breaks, I'll spend the $$ and upgrade parts 5Great hook but shame on KitchenAid Twenty years ago, my first KitchenAid mixer shipped with a coated beater and a stainless steel dough hook and Whip. Obviously KitchenAid cut costs by replacing the Stainless steel with cheap aluminum that not only turns black in the dishwasher, but harbors bacteria on the aluminum pores. The coated hook is definitely worth having if you're going to pay so much for a mixer . . .but rather than ship the mixer with inferior tools then sit back smugly and wait for customers to upgrade, they should be included to begin with. I don't mind paying extra in the beginning.Five stars for the product, one for KitchenAid 5Very good design improvement over the old C hook style. Recommended upgrade. A huge improvement over the previous C hook style. This hook spirals down into the dough, presses it against the bottom and sides of the bowl and folds it over giving a very good kneading motion. It's fine for softer doughs where I don't really want the gluten to develop much (soft pizza dough, pita bread, etc)- if I'm making a firmer dough where I want really elastic gluten I take it out and give it a dozen or so folds by hand on the table before the first rise. The older C hook style just caused the dough to wrap around the hook, so I always had to stop to pull it off. This design surely works better with more dough in the bowl, the smallest batch of dough I'll make with it is with 2 cups of flour. Less than that and it won't really mix efficiently.Even though this is listed as dishwasher safe, I hand wash and dry it. It is aluminum with a hard plastic dipped coating over the top that should protect it from strong alkaline chemicals used in the dishwasher, but all it takes is one small crack or nick to let that detergent in against the aluminum and it will corrode very quickly. Takes 5 seconds to give it a soapy rinse and dry, hopefully I'll get a lot of years out of it. 5Also fits KP26M9XCER Wasn't sure if this would fit my 6 QT mixer until I purchased it. There are a lot of different models that share the same attachments and this is one.Love the coated hook as the original is pot metal and corrodes easily. This is exactly the same as the original that came with the kit.Shame on KitchenAid for not including stainless steel attachments in their mixer combos. I should not have to purchase another set just because KitchenAid is too cheap to include them as part of the kit. 5If you bake a lot of bread this hook is the way to go. This dough hook does a much better job at kneading bread dough than the 'C' hook that came with my mixer. It seems to work much better on heavier doughs and more sticky dough like for rye breads like caraway and pumpernickel. I really like that the tool is so easy to clean and even if some dough has hardened on it in spots it comes off nearly effortlessly. I bake a lot of bread for my family (four or five loaves a week) and since arthritis has taken its toll I've had to buy an electric mixer capable of kneading. This makes an easier job that much easier. 5A better hooker brings in better bread! Oh man! Guys (that's not gender specific), I've been working with the original Dough Beater on my KA since 89. I love my KA and love doing bread doughs and just accepted fighting the dough from riding up the hook as a right of passage. I don't know what year that this dough design came out to work on my KA, but let's just say, after using this hook the first time and then confirming a 3rd and 4th time, let's just call those years that I didn't change this style dough hook the "LOST YEARS"! It's awesome! I can do even more dough than I did before because the mix is so thorough and keeps the dough down into bowl. I can mix longer without disturbing the mix to pull dough back down into the bowl. My bread results were, are something you can measure. I don't give many reviews, but when I do, it's because something was horrible and I want to save even my worse enemy from buying it or it was so outstanding, that I want good people to not waste time buying and hope it's not my worse enemy that reads it. 5It fits a K5SS model and works great. I bought this to use on a K5SS model, it fits and works fine. This kneads pizza dough significantly better than the "C" hook that was included with my mixer. In fact, I was contemplating tossing the mixer because it did such a poor job of kneading dough, about all it did before was mix the dough and then take the dough ball for a merry-go-round ride around the bowl with very little actual kneading going on.It was about impossible to get dough that was smooth and would pass a window pane test. Consequently, I had been hand kneading and getting far better results than I ever did with the "C" hook. It kneads quite well now with this hook which is a much better design, so the old mixer is worth keeping now. Why it didn't come with this style of dough hook to begin with is beyond me. 5Where has this thing been all my life? For years I've made bread every week as well as other baked goods requiring dough. The standard "C" hook that has always come with the Kitchenaid stand mixers have lacked so much. They don't really knead the dough they sort of mix it. And they tend to pull the dough up (and if your not watching closely) over the top of the hook and twist it around the attachment shaft and spring. What a pain to clean!I have a vintage (1984) Kitchenaid Hobart K5SS lift mixer that's a real workhorse. (I love that old reliable stuff don't you?) I've always hated that "C" dough hook. I also have a vintage K45SS that has the same problem with the standard and disliked "C" dough hook.I bought this coated spiral dough hook and it works beautifully in my K5SS! It pulls the dough up part way then pushes it back down in the bowl and actually kneads the dough! No more having the dough climbing over the top of the attachment and no more having to hand knead dough that didn't get mixed well enough.I LOVE this spiral dough hook. And it's coated so it's easy to clean and doesn't rust of turn black like the uncoated ones. Now to find one for my 1980 Kitchenaid Hobart K45SS lift mixer! 5Fits my 23 year-old KSM5 perfectly and works so much better than the J hook I was about to replace my leaky old bread machine which used to do all the kneading for me before I hand-finished, when I read about people using their kitchenaids instead. I never thought about that because the J hook that came with the machine doesn't keep the dough from climbing. This hook fits my 23 year-old KSM5 perfectly and works so much better than the J hook. Now I can make more loaves of bread at a time effortlessly with half the kneading time and I only have to store the one appliance instead of 2 - double YAY!! 5
