Customer Reviews

This Sharpener is a MUST have for any Coloring/Drawing enthusiastsI have just about every type of colored pencil one could think of and from just about every maker of colored pencils. I have spent a lot of money of colored pencils I use for coloring and drawing and I hate wasting them on just plain sharpening. I have also bought just about every type of sharpner, including electric, USB, portable and not portable. One would not think they would have many differences but alas a lot of them do. First using electric sharpeners on colored pencils as a rule is a bad idea because of the softness of the cores. Some would be OK like cheaper ones or Verithin Colored pencils but as a rule AVOID THEM as they just waste more than you will ever use.Now back to this sharpner... I am really excited that I found this--(I know how sad-- ;) ) but this really is that good and if you are like me and are sick of wasting by sharpening then get this. Get 2 just incase, I am ordering a second one. I was looking for a sharpener that did not sharpen the pencils in the same old way, I needed something that did not expose so much of the core (I had some broken inner cores so every time they would fall out when you sharpen them) hoping it would solve the problem. (It did for the most part, its an almost impossible thing to fix) so that is well worth it right there. I was not to sure how well the adjustable thing would be, It is fat better than I suspected and far better than another brand I had gotten to try. The dif. points are great for other reasons as well and I have wondered how I have gotten along without one for this long. Really I have. They really are the perfect tips for drawing coloring or sketching. This Sharpener is a MUST have for any coloring enthusiasts. Now for the lowdown on how well it works on the dif. types of pencilsOil Colored pencils (Faber Castell, Carans, ColourBlend by Spectrum etc. **They fit but barely) THE BEST SHARPENER, I do not think it is possible to find a better one for Oils- If you have one please let me know. The adjustable settings really come in handy hereHigh Wax based (Harder cores)- Crayola, Verithins, Marco Very good but may be best not using the "normal" tip settingLow Wax Based Colored Pencils Prismacolors, Dewerts- EXCELLENT Just as good as the oil ones. Any and all settings are perfect for this or any setting you heart desires. Just hurry and get this, you ARE missing out!Three things I would improve if I could are these 4 things but all in all its perfect1. Could be bigger2. it does not close all the way and3.you cannot fir thicker pencils in4. easily change the blade -I dont think you can replace the blade at all, I will have to lookNow that I have reviewed the product let me just say this. BUY from another seller if you can. This person is kind of a pain in the rear and I think just expecting customers to be OK with a 2 month shipping process is outrageous. If its going to take you that long then maybe you should stick with just EBAY, this is the bigger league.I noticed the shipping date right after I bought it and said, NOPE and submitted a cancel order form, I was told I couldn't because it was already shipping. I thought no problem if they are shipping this fast. Well that was 2 months ago and I just got this 2 days ago. YUP, I guess my order could have been cancelled. So when I buy my second one it will NOT be from this seller. That is just wrong, 2 months for a product. 5Small but MIGHTYThis pencil sharpener is on the small side and was a lil woreied. But no need to be. This is a great sharpener. It has 5 settings for lead length. It also closes the hole up so none of the shavings can fall out. This is great to take with you on the go. I have pics of the dimensions, lead lengths from 1 to 5 (left to right), and a pic of the hole open and closed. This is a fantastic sharpener for all pencils. You can get the lead super fine and pointy to more of a smaller thicker point. Recommend!! 5Works great for a couple of weeks.Edit: After using this sharpener a few weeks, it no longer works. It is stuck on one gear, and I can no longer get a nice, sharp point.Love this little sharpener! It sharpens my Faber Castell colored pencils to a perfect point without waste. Customer service is great, and although shipped from Japan, arrived quickly. 2Best pencil sharpener. This is an incredible little pencil sharpener. Perhaps the only thing that they could improve would be to use visual iconic labels which indicate whether your tip will be shorter or longer, rather than using numbers, as it's difficult to know what these numbers mean without experimentation. But that's a very minor thing. The sharpener itself works very well. It's very sharp and so you only need to apply the slightest pressure on your pencil for the sharpener to work effectively. Being able to dial in the angle of the cut is quite convenient as it makes this a one-size-fits-all device. But the very best thing about this sharpener, for our family, is that it's able to reliably sharpen problematic prismacolor colored pencils with soft leads (which are often easily broken, repeatedly, during sharpening with other sharpeners). 5Great sharpenerI bought this after hearing how much people in an adult coloring group loved it. It has lived up to the hype for me. The tip it gives is the best. I will not go back to other sharpeners. The tip I like best is the level 1 (picture included) 5the shorter tip keeps the wax color cores from breaking off so easily. It *is* smaller than it seems in the ...This, in a nut shell, is a variable geometry pencil sharper.Yep, I'm going there.I'm one of those people who's gotta have things "just so".Basically, you know how golf pencils (and pencils that come from the factory) have a different point than what most sharpers put on them? With this, you can get that blunter, shorter point.Additionally, this really handles colored pencils well, the shorter tip keeps the wax color cores from breaking off so easily. It *is* smaller than it seems in the picture, which is great because I keep this in my art supply box at all times. 5I was assaulted pretty brutally in my own home in 2011I got into the adult coloring page on the advice of my therapist. I have PTSD. I was assaulted pretty brutally in my own home in 2011. A complete stranger. It was devastating and it's hard for me sometimes to not dwell on that. I started out with cheap pencils and coloring books and my taste has evolved into the artist quality supplies since. I've tried so many pencil sharpeners that I could probably round them all up here and donate them to a school and that school would be set on sharpeners for a year. THIS is the only sharpener I refuse to part with. I have several of them. I use these on Prismacolor, Faber Castell Polychromas, Derwent Inktense, and even my makeup pencils. With these settings, you can sharpen for what you need and it doesn't chew up the pencil or cause breakage and waste. It's really unbeatable for the price. And if you have read this far and you are considering adult coloring for whatever reason . . . DO IT. It's like taking a valium without worrying about the chemicals. :) 5Poor and inconsistent performance from the T GaalI ve attempted to use this T Gaal sharpener for about three weeks now and am sadly disappointed in its lack of performance. I was very excited to try this, as I really liked its portability features, e.g. self-contained shavings and relatively flat profile (to carry in pocket or purse compartment).I bought it to use with various brands of colored pencils, expecting that it may sharpen more effectively on some over the others. This is because some brands are larger in circumference than others, and some are hexagonal in shape versus being smoothly round.Well, despite trying each and every setting (1-5) on the little wheel for my various brands and shapes of colored pencils, the T Gaal failed to produce a sharp point for me. It cut the wood well, but stopped short of a sharp point. Sometimes it got close, but most times failed. This didn t seem to be brand specific either. The inconsistent results occurred on pencils of the same brand. I also tried holding the pencil and rotating the sharpener around the pencil, as well as holding the sharpener and rotating the pencil. There wasn t a noticeable difference either way.Though I really wanted to like this sharpener, I wouldn t recommend it due to its inconsistent and poor performance on the following brands of colored pencils:* Derwent Inktense* Faber-Castell Watercolor* PrismaColor Premier* Faber-Castell Polychromos* Ohuhu Colored Pencils 2It can be the right tool at the right price...This pencil sharpener became the talk of social media for a while, and just about everyone tried it...myself included. And let me just say that if you invested a lot of money in Prismacolor pencils during their persnickety run and someone says THIS sharpener will sooth away your woos and you will be able to sharpen them, you'd try it too! And I think it did help with the Prismas (for a while...). Using a low setting/around a two helps you get a point on your Prismas without cracking the barrels or the leads (I will give it that...and that is a lot). That said, if you want a traditional point on any other pencil you can skip this sharpener.I paid $3.50 for my first one as an Amazon add on, so really there was no reason to complain. But I have seen the price almost double and thought I should share the other side of this sharpener. It is pretty and fun and it has the dial... which does give you different shaped points and can save how much wood you shave and thus how much of the core is wasted to create a point. And when I first used it I liked it (on my Prismacolors). I had no complaints worth mentioning.Technically, the short points take away some of the traditional use of the side of the pencil for shading because at the lowest settings you only get the point and not the long sides that you may rely on for your preferred coloring techniques (coloring pencils). And sorry to say, at the higher settings it is just a sharpener (and not the best one out there). Most annoyingly, the blade dies very quickly in this sharpener. I don't use it daily and within a month I needed a new one! I have had some sharpeners last me years, so a few weeks of use seems wrong to me. Don't make the mistake of putting a pencil in at one level and then changing the dial, that creates a messy crooked monster point and means you need to sharpen even more. And if your pencil is a little bit on the wide side, this sharpener will scratch the barrels. Do not put a Derwent pencil in there! Ugh! Part of the pleasure of colored pencils is their finish (at least for me), so boo to that side effect! Oh, and the first time you open the back to empty the shavings is the last time the back closes well...it always feels shaky after that (this happened on both my versions of this sharpen).I just thought someone should log the concerns because I know if I reviewed this sharpener the first time I used it, I too would have given it five stars. And most people just do not come back and update their reviews. But being on my second unit for 2018, I can now attest to the short lifespan and the other technical blips. I am in no way bashing the sharpener. It can be the right tool at the right price and I would buy another just for my Prismas. For my other pencils other sharpeners in my arsenal work better (specifically, at the same general price-point, the simple Kum steel blade and M&R round). 3It's perfect and gets the job done so easily!I cannot say enough good things about this sharpener. I bought it based on friends reviews who color adult coloring books. You can dial in the size you need to sharpen with. I color with Marco Raffine pencils so I use #3 on the dial. Then you turn the dial to Close so the shavings stay inside. It's very small, light weight and very easy to use. I've used about 5 sharpeners and this one by far is my favorite one! 5
