Customer Reviews

Great price. Easy for contractor to install, only one problem. The vent worked well in our 12" overhang on our roof. The only thing we did not like was that there was no way to keep yellow jackets out. We bought some plastic screen and cut it around the inside of the vent, covering the open hole. We then taped it down with blue painter's tape (to remove if we had to replace the screen later on), prior to putting the two pieces together and the contractor screwing it to the roof. We live in the country and yellow jacket nests are everywhere. We knew it was only a matter of time before they got in the vent and into our attic if we did not put screening in. Other than that major problem of sealing the vent hole, so far, so good, but it was just installed in October! 4Best Fit for Purpose I had to replace a vent cover for a bath fan that was vented through a soffit. I have read many times how this is not an ideal situation but it is either that or punch a hole in the roof. I opted to keep things simple. The vent covers sold at the big box stores do not replicate the design of this product. Instead they have a high potential to vent the warm, moist air precisely where it should not go: back up the soffit vents and into the attic. It is necessary to blow the vented air well clear of the soffit vent. This design accomplishes that objective.Pros: Low cost, only design of its type that I could findCons: This thing is fragile. Order two if you need one. Odds are that one will be damaged in shipment or during installation. Be careful and do not overtighten the screws you use (I strongly recommend stainless screws.). Follow the advice of others here. There is potential for this design to freeze shut. I put a thin layer of silicone grease along the flap where it contacts the body. I have not yet wintered with it. If issues arise I will update this review.Update: After one of the coldest winters in years, I'm happy to report that this design did not freeze shut. 4Great vent for small soffits Since I needed a small soffit vent, the big stores only have one to choose from. Didn't like the look, besides it was too big. So off to Amazon to save the day.I came upon these guys, simple plastic louvered door for soffit mounting. They are low profile and do the trick of venting. Like other reviews stated, no screws so make sure you have on hand four for each cover. Predrill pilots in soffit especially if you fall on a groove. If the screw wants to pitch towards the inside, I had one that started making the door hang up. I removed and sent it away from the vent frame, and perfect. I drilled a 4 1/8" hole and install was about ten minutes. 5Only vent I could find that directed the air away from the soffit These are made cheaply, could be designed better and made much better in quality. I am putting in a new bathroom and concerned that the flow through this vent will be restrictive, which could increase noise level of fan and even cause moist warm air to leak at the connections in the attic. On the other hand it was the only design I found that will direct the air away from the underside of the soffit, and I have a vented soffit so I do not want warm moist air going up into the soffit as it would be a great environment to grow mold. it was very cold the day I went to install. I dropped the vent about 2' onto a wooden deck, the tab that holds the flapper in place broke. It was well below freezing that day but I did not think it should be that fragile. Anyway I installed it to block the hole but had to order another one. This is a second story installation so I had to get the ladder out a second time which set up and takedown was a few hours, 15 min to reinstall now that the hole was cut. Other review complain about the flapper freezing shut, II see how that could happen, again not impressed with design and quality, but then could not find anything better for my installation. 4I like this product but i will warn that it causes ... I like this product but i will warn that it causes a buildup of ice/frost on the vinyl soffit during EXTREME cold (long durations of below zero F temperatures). 4Good design, very flimsy construction. Fairly good design for dryer vent -- it directs the exhaust away from the house, and has a well designed flapper to prevent backdraft and pest entry. The problem, as others have noted, is the extremely flimsy construction. This one broke in two places during installation. One of the hinges snapped off, so the flapper is useless, and while inserting screws to hold the vent to the soffit, the flange cracked. It is in the soffit now, with no flapper, while I work on another solution. I would happily pay significantly more for a well made product. FYI, I also purchased the Builders Best metal vent from Amazon at the same time, not sure which would work better. That is plan B for me. It requires a larger hole in the soffit, so I started with the Lambro so I'd still have a 2nd option. 2Hopeful solution I hope this vent resolves my bathroom fan ventilation issue. It seems to be just what I need-a vent to force exhaust air away from the soffit. I purchased it this winter but the Contractor just installed it. He said it was not difficult to install. I had read all the reviews and tips by others and gave them to him. I tried the bathroom fan after installation and it worked well. A screen was places inside the vent to act as a bug shield. It will be easy to reach out the window in Winter if it does freeze up. I didn't feel comfortable placing a regular vent in the soffit nor going through the roof. I had a nice 15 ft run put in last Summer with a total reconstruction on the second floor and the vent pipe ran in the crawl space and vented on the side wall of the house. This didn't work out either because the fan did not generate enough force to open the side of house vent door-too long of a run, or moisture remained in insulated pipe and made the vent door freeze? This wasn't fun as I had to open the window in the cold sub zero weather to vent the room. This vent is 4 inches with one flap. It is smaller than I expected. The vent tubing went on with a snug fit and secured by both bracket and foil tape. I rate it 4 stars until I go threw this winter and see how it performs. If it does well I probably will purchase another just to have if ever needed. This is a hard to find product and nice to see Amazon offering. 4Wasp and Hornets Nest No More !!!!!!!! I like it ,only thing it doesn't come with SCREWS to attach it to under eve outside . Also don't purchase the metal clamps shown with this when purchasing both ( $ 1.76 ) . If you have a smaller size hose like I do ,these clamps are way to big and are useless . Take it to a hardware store and get size screws you need , Socket Head screws work the best . It only requires 4 screws so pick up at least 8 so if you drop or lose any you will be all set . To attach smaller hose to this vent ,I put it together as it was originally . I just drilled a small hole in the front of the top round part and attached vent to the hose and it all set . 4Flimsy, But Works... This exhaust vent solved the problem of properly venting the bathroom without poking a hole in the roof. It vents through the soffit and allows good air flow. However, it is unnecessarily flimsy and would be a 5 star product if its construction was more robust. (I'm using it in a warm climate, so I have no info on cold weather performance/durability.)Gripe - the thin plastic damper has a slight bow in it that prevents it from seating properly when closed. If the damper was metal, it would be a simple matter to make a small bend to adjust it square. However, the plastic it's made of simply rebounds to its original, slightly distorted shape. The bottom gap is roughly 1/8 inch, which is large enough for a roach to get through. :-(Notes:* Cut a 4 inch hole to mount this, even though it uses 4" ducting. The extra room is necessary to allow the duct clamp to pass through the hole.* Take care to not let the mounting screws (not included) distort the easily distorted housing or the damper will bind and not operate properly.* I intend to convert this to a roof exhaust when reshingling time comes; until then it's a good temporary solution to avoiding mold and mildew in the bathroom. If anyone knows of a high quality version of this design, I would appreciate a comment. :-) 3Best in warm climates The product works well if used in warmer climates. Although not my choice to vent out of the soffit, this is my only option. This vent works well to direct the exhaust past the edge of the roof, preventing the air from being sucked back into the attic (vented soffit) causing moisture. The issue with this product is the flapper, it freezes shut due to condensation. I put a paperclip on the edge which keeps it open a little, but still freezes. Better then it was being that it was never vented prior and going into my attic.. quick fix 2
