Customer Reviews

Amazing little shovel!!Amazing little shovel!!! I just used this to dig out my car after snowstorm Jonas. While it's a bit smaller than a standard shovel-both the scoop and the arm, it's aluminum and extremely sturdy! I was able to lift lots of wet, heavy snow with no problem at all. The fact that it comes apart and can be easily stored makes it convenient to keep in the trunk or in a closet in your home (I live in an apartment and lack storage space so this is huge!). I'd hughly recommend this to anyone without any reservation at all!!! See before and after pics of the what I used this for.. 5Nice tool for car / camp / truck / hikeWorks as expected. Nice to have it able to store in 3 small pieces, it fits almost anywhere easily. I use it for winter snows only, and keep in car for the season. Never used on anything other than snow. Have used since November 2011 including a couple REALLY bad (or good if u love snow) New England winters, so I can tell you it stands up well.Very light-weight. Understand, though, it is SHORT, so your shoveling ergonomic mechanics will be off. You don't want to clear your entire driveway with this thing. I don't suppose it is designed to take on a trip up Mount Everest, but it works very well for my use. Which, has been to clear out around car so i can get onto the streets. I am one of those dudes who LOVE snow and eagerly get out and drive in it. Have not had the chance to use it to get out of a 'stuck in snowbank', or ' skidded-off-road-into-windroll', but I expect it will work well as long as I am not chipping away at a ton of mixed and frozen sludge. The edge will 'sharpen' a bit as you use it against pavement or cement, but that is actually a good thing, as it will cut closer and cleaner as you shovel - just need to beware when you store it, the edge may be sharp enough to scratch / score / damage your trunk or wherever you store it. 4Excellent for little shovel!Great for the car, great for slicing snow, excels where plastic shovels don't.It looks like crappy shovel, but it held up to slicing out sections of the 20 inch snow drifts from this record breaking snow dump, the same one that collapsed the Metrodome and effectively shut down the city. It's not good for actually carrying snow, but great for digging underneath a car and moving snow away from wheels, or building a snow cave sort of thing. It has zero flexibility and is very good at carving or spiking through snow. Well worth it. 5Decent Light-weight, portable, pretty utility shovel.I bought this to keep in my car and use it in winter time. Now that I have gone through two winter season with it, I think I have pretty good insight of what this thing can do. First of all, buyers must understand that what this thing is all about. It's all about being lightweight and portable. This should only be used as emergency tool when you don't have proper tools. This winter, NY was hit by wet snow and it quickly turned into ice. Unfortunately, I only had this shovel in my car.. so I used it to break through those thick ices and it snapped in half. BUT I am still giving this item 4-star rating because that is more of my fault. This shovel is made out of aluminum and it clearly says in the item name. While they are light, they aren't made to pick through ices. This shovel will have no problem digging through snows. Just understand that it will not move huge amount of snow at a time. For serious ice digging, this is not going to cut it. keep this in your car as emergency tool and use proper tool when the situation calls for it.Now the real reason, why I have deducted 1 star is more due to the fact that there are some areas where it could use some improvement.First of all, the entire body of the shovel is made out of aluminum and there is no grab provided for the fore-hand. It means, if you don't have a pair of gloves, Good luck not getting a frostbite. because it's like holding onto a block of ice.Secondly, while it does retract and expend.. the range is too small.Lastly, the handle is really uncomfortable but this is somewhat understandable as they wanted to make it as portable as possible. But D-Shape handle would have been really nice. but I might be asking for luxury at this point. 4Not suitable for backcountry snow safetyFor the price and primary purpose, this is a fine shovel. If you keep it in your car for emergencies, this is probably a 5 star product. I have used it as a backcountry ski shovel as one of the standard pieces of safety equipment for avalanches. When used to dig vigorously in compact snow, the fulcrum point connecting the shovel to the handle bends and warps. If someone's life may depend on your shovel, look elsewhere 3shovel snaps! This was a great little shovel that I kept in my car for emergencies. I can't deny that it was a nice size and a good price. Thank God I didn't have an emergency, though! I decided to try it out for some casual digging in the snow and it snapped in about 30 min - where the blade meets the handle. It appears to be great for any vertical slicing, but forget about scooping or prying anything but light, fluffy powder! 1Needs a comfortable handle.Three stars in the Amazon review blog means "It's OK." The good: light weight, sturdy, collapsible, colorful. The bad (and this is real bad): the handle is very uncomfortable, and impedes its usefulness as a tool.Tools need to have comfortable handles that allow you to control them and, in this case, provide themuscle and leverage needed to get the job done. A shovel of this size and design usually has a "loop"handle, so that you can wrap your fingers and thumb around it without splaying out your fingers. And since you very likely would want to wear thick gloves when you are shoveling snow, the comfortand stability of the grip would only become worse. 3The Joint Breaks Off easily.I can't tell you how disappointed I am with this Shovel. I brought 4 of them for our Boy Scout troop and we took them for snow camping near Carson Pass(~ 8500 ft) up in the Sierra's and the plan was to build snow shelter. The temperature at the site was roughly 25-30 F and we had about 8 feet of snow, mostly loose powder. We started out to work and within the first hour of shoveling the joint where the wide aluminium pan meets the pole broke and by evening 3 of the 4 shovels broke in the same identical spot. The shovel is light and telescopic but its pointless when it breaks so easily at the joint, the make is of extremely poor quality. Luckily for us we also had snow saws, and that helped us a little. At the end what was supposed to be a 3-4 hour task of building a Quinzee for the night turned out to be a 7 hour effort.I will highly discourage you from considering this as an option, if you are planning to take it outdoors. The only use I can see is to shover thin air. Its a worthless piece of junk. 1Shovel breaks down very nicely and smoothly and stores under the seat of my ...Half a dozen snow storms later...Still going strong! If you beat this thing up hard, that is into ice and other obstructions/pavement it will begin to show signs of wear and tear. However, if you use it as intended for SNOW and don't try to leverage anything heavy with it or bust up ice dams it will perform season after season. This shovel breaks down very nicely and smoothly and stores under the seat of my car neatly. The blue color look sharp and attractive and all of my friends want one now! I bought 2 of these: 1 for my vehicle and 1 for my fiance's.Positive Update: We are getting slammed in Upstate NY (2/16/16) and I travel house to house for work in homecare Physical Therapy...Without this shovel I would not have made it out of several of the driveways of my patients this morning. (We're talking 18-20" with drifts and snow plows adding to that amount). I was very thankful I had a quick way to address the insanity! If you are ever stranded roadside thigh-deep in snow and would like to stay in your car to stay warm while waiting for help you'd better consider that if your muffler(s) get covered and plugged with snow it's NO BUENO...Wouldn't it be nice to have a sound way to dig out those muffler pipes? Rather than becoming a statistic, invest in this safety measure...This shovel makes that process a lot easier and offers peace of mind at the very least that you have an exit strategy in some capacity. I still Highly recommend as it has been a life-saver this season!!! Safe travels out there! 5Broke shoveling snowCAUTION: DO NOT PURCHASE THIS AS AN AVALANCHE SHOVEL!I bought this shovel to be carried in my backpack and used for backcountry snowboarding. I ended up using it for a day of work building a jump out of snow in spring conditions before actually relying on this item in an emergency situation and I am really glad I did because someone's life could have been lost if I hadn't tested it. The shovel broke where the actual shovel bit meets the handle.I was using this product to lift pretty heavy amounts of snow. If you just need a light duty shovel this may work for you, but for me personally I would rather spend more money on a better shovel that will not break when you really need it. 2
