Customer Reviews

Almost sent it back. Glad I reviewed the reviews! Placement of the repeater kit was the key to getting mine to function properly. Initially I plugged it into a socket in the garage wall (about 15 ft from opener). The unit worked fine as long as I was inside the garage, or outside the garage with the door open. I moved it to another wall location closer to the opener, this time about 10ft away and got the same results. CRAP! I walked out to the recycle bin to retrieve the tiny box it came in in order to send it back. On my way in, I remembered seeing a review about metal doors thinking that was my problem, so I wanted to see if there was a work-around. As I was browsing, I came across a few reviews about placing it in the ceiling next to the opener. DUH! I completely had a brain fart about an outlet even being there next to the opener in the ceiling. Now the two antenna wires are within 18 inches of each other (I read a post stating his need to use an extension cord to place it in front of the opener between the opener and door but my setup was already configured with the outlet in that position). I can now open the door from over 100 ft away (through the closed metal door even)! I do have to press the Homelink button for a second or two to activate the door but no big deal. Very happy with this product! 5Works, but greatly reduced range compared to non-bridged remote You only need this bridge if your new Chamberlain or LiftMaster garage door opener doesn't work with the old-style HomeLink remote opener buttons built into your car (usually located on the sun visor or mirror). The bridge is easy enough to link to the main opener. I think it's stupid and customer-hostile, however, that Chamberlain doesn't build this bridge circuit directly into its drive units as a standard feature (instead of forcing you to buy a separate brick) but that's a gripe for a different review! The biggest drawback to this bridge is that its operating range is waaaaay less than a non-bridged remote. I could activate my old door opener drive unit from a house or two away. This bridge, even though it's mounted on a wall outlet in the garage 5 feet above the floor with no obstructions, needs to be within line-of-sight of your car. For me, that's in the driveway, so the operating range of this bridge is maybe 30% of a non-bridged opener. YMMV.By the way, the range of the standard MyQ remote is not affected by this bridge ... the clip-on remote can activate the door from a couple hundred feet away. The MyQ phone app can activate the door from just about anywhere. So, if using the built-in visor or mirror garage door opener buttons in your car are real important to you, despite the vastly reduced operating range, this bridge will let you do that. But if you want to be able to open your door before you even turn into your driveway, save your money and use the regular clip-on remotes that came with the drive unit. 4Inexpensive solution to an irritating problem Worked perfectly. We are in the process of moving into a new home, and the remotes for the dual garage door openers would not program to the Homelink buttons in my car. I was worried that I was going to have to spend a several hundred dollars to upgrade the Homelink system in my car, but then I found out about this little beauty on Chamberlain's site. I was about to order it when I thought, I should check Amazon first, and I saved ten bucks getting it here.Super easy to program. I just used the included remote to program my Homelink #1 and #2 buttons (one at a time). Next I plugged the Compatibility Bridge into an outlet near the garage door openers. Then to program the first door I pressed the learn button on the opener itself (it was a yellow button on the back of the motor body), and within 30 seconds I pressed the #1 Homelink button in my car and held it until I saw the garage door opener light flash (and heard 2 clicks). Repeated those steps with the second garage door opener and button in my car, and then tested both buttons to ensure the doors opened (they did).EDIT:I have since programmed the third button in my car to open both garage doors at once. Now I can open the left door with button 1, the right door with button 2, and both doors simultaneously with button 3. Still working great after 1 year. 5Works fine as long as you program per the instructions This works as it should, including through my 8' metal hurricane proof garage door. It's plugged into an outlet in the ceiling above the 2016 Craftsman garage door opener. The only thing to note is you need to follow the instructions *exactly* as written. I thought I was being clever and tried using the supplied 1-button remote they give you to clone to your car's Homelink to program the door opener, but it failed to work for whatever reason. But the car's Homelink button cloned from the supplied 1-button remote worked perfectly fine. No idea why, but the end result is I can use my friggin' 2006 Honda's Homelink again. I tried to get a human on the phone at Homelink about my issue but that was fruitless.Whole thing is really, really annoying. I understand it's for security purposes, but to make us all buy extra parts is poor engineering. Just build the backwards compatibility into the damn openers, and make an optional feature. Instead, I get useless wifi functionality which has to cost way more to implement than an extra button to program older Homelink. 4My personal experience is a good one. I feel it necessary to submit my experience with this item, since the reviews are mixed. I replaced my old Chamberlain garage door opener with a more modern LiftMaster WD832KEV. Needless to say... my 2006 Acura TL with HomeLink wouldn't tune into this new garage door's frequency. This product had clear instructions, took less than 3 minutes to install and worked like a charm. I didn't have to move it around the garage or do anything fancy, just plugged it into the first open outlet I saw. The range is perfectly acceptable. I have no complaints whatsoever. I can't speak for everyone who has different combinations of garage door opener models and different makes/models of cars, but for my combination this product worked just fine. 5that's when you feel like writing a review You know when you're mad, that's when you feel like writing a review? That is how I'm feeling right now. The first question is why in the world should anyone need this thing? There is no reason other than a ca$h grab for opener makers to not include this capability. That being said, it's pretty straight forward and works reasonably well. I had 2 cars, the first one went through just fine. It took a couple of tries to get the 2nd car programmed but so far it works.Others have complained about the range on this thing, Since I only installed it a little while ago I haven't really had an opportunity to test that yet but will be sure to do so and if it's poor I'll make sure to report back out. I'm still seething about needing an addon unit in the first place! 3If you're reading this, it's probably what you need. It's annoying that you need it, but there you go. If you bought a new door opener (mine was a craftsman, fyi) and your old (ehem, 2011 is not that old!) car's homelink buttons won't program, this is probably what you need. They changed the protocol for the homelink buttons so old ones don't work with new openers now. As a software developer, this makes me angry. There's no valid reason to fail to make backward compatible products. In any case, using this is easy. You plug in the device somewhere in the general area of your door opener. You then program any of those old homelink buttons using the supplied remote control. Program them just like you would normally do, using the supplied remote next to the homelink button and do the press and hold thing, blah blah blah. Once it works, you go press the "Learn" button on the door opener itself, and within 30 seconds go back and press the homelink button you just programmed. Press for 2 seconds, let go, do it again. The garage door opener will blink it's light and you're all set. 4Underpowered, useless trash. This is *not* the solution for your problem, I assure you... This is one of those times I'm kicking myself over my choices. I read the reviews. But figured, "ah, I'll get it to work. It can't be that bad.". Trust me, it is.This is a useless piece of hardware that tries to solve a problem - but fails miserably.Let me start out by saying, yes, I got it to work. I was determined to figure out the problem with it, and I think I can cut to the chase and tell you it is just underpowered. The system requires the control unit to be placed "as close to the opener as possible". I thought, ok, 2 feet is pretty close, and I set it up.After programming, per the instructions, the car, I ran tests. Nothing. The only way for me to trigger the door opener with the home-link remote was to be within 3 ft of the antenna. Now, as you might imagine, our garage is larger than 3 feet, and therefore the system is not able to open the door from the outside. Kind of the point, right?Well, I continued to play with the system, and by using an extension cord to suspend the control unit immediately above the hood of the car, I was able to open the garage door from within the car itself. Partial Success. But, alas, the garage door, once closed, it too far from the unit to make things work.Piece of junk, just as every other negative review states. Don't bother. 1beware of metal doors After much effort the unit was installed on the ceiling inches from the garage door opener, as noted in the instructions; but the unit did not work. I finally moved the unit down the wall and near a window and concluded the unit was not strong enough to work through the metal garage doors. And so placement is important. The antenna needs to be longer. The signal strength needs to be stronger.Update. Moved the unit to a location above the garage door connected to an extension cord and the unit works much better now. Installed on the ceiling near the garage door opener the unit does not work. Installed on the wall mid way into the garage the unit works with the car in the driveway. Installed above the garage door on the interior of the garage the unit works three houses down the block. 4but not great. there is a delay between when I press ... I have older cars that do not work with my new Chamberlain garage door openers. This device allows my older cars with Homelink to communicate my new garage door openers. It does work, but not great. there is a delay between when I press the button and the signal is received and the opener starts to open the door.it doesn't matter if I am 2 houses away or sitting in the garage. I need to hold the opener button for 3-5 seconds before the opener starts to work. It is a bit annoying. Sometimes it does require a second press if I didn't hold it long enough the first time.So it does work, but not as well as I would like. Unfortunately the only other option is to carry the remote that came with the opener. That defeats the purpose of the built in remote, but I may go back to the factory remote anyway. 3
