Description

  • A flawless pairing of form and function that doesn't quit, the Lodge Dutch Oven is an enameled cast iron classic that's great for preparing and serving memorable meals.
  • WHAT IS PORCELAIN ENAMEL ON CAST IRON? It is actually glass that becomes bonded to the cast iron at high temperatures. A particulate of glass, called frit, is applied to the cast iron vessel and then baked at temperatures between 1200 and 1400 F. The glass frit melts and fuses to the cast iron, forming a bond. Porcelain enamel on cast iron is heat tolerant and impervious to water and other consumables.

Customer Reviews

Gone to pot. This has become my go to cooking pot. It does everything. If you are limited on space throw every thing away and get this Dutch Oven. I have cooked pasta, fried sausage, eggs and stir fry. Makes great pot roast in the oven. Works on all cooking surfaces, glass top, gas, and induction. This is an update. This pan lost it's enamel shortly after the first month of use. It became impossible to cook anything , except water without it sticking. Terrible investment. Apparently not a flawed item, as I bought a smaller size and the same thing happened. Buyer beware! 1It's made in China It looks great and wished i could keep it. The concern is it's made in China... concerned with the enamel being toxic possibly. I will have to return it and hope there's not hefty shipping charge. 1I purchased a Lodge EC6D43 Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven ... I purchased a Lodge EC6D43 Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven, 6-Quart, Island Spice Red on January 31, 2017. After only two uses, I now have a small chip on the inside of the bowl. I don't use medal utensils and followed care instructions. After reading amazon feedback, there appears to be a number of people with similar problems. I am waiting to hear back from Lodge, but probably should have gone with a higher end product.UPDATE: I did contact Lodge on the above issue. After a few clarifying emails and pictures, they agreed to ship me a replacement. At this point, I'm really impressed the way they are standing behind their product. I decided to change my rating from 1 to 4 stars.UPDATE 2: I received the new Lodge cookware as noted above. After unpacking, I found two small areas that were ruff to the touch. I lightly rubbed one with my finger and the top coating fell off. The other area seems stable. So now I have two pieces with the same type of defect. I contacted Lodge again, but have not heard anything more from them. I've decided to give up on the issue. Rating changed back to 1 star. 1High Quality, Attractive, and Excellent Amazon Customer Service Experience This is a very high quality dutch oven, very reasonably priced and an excellent value. I have a couple of comments to make regarding my selection of this product and the Amazon customer service experience:- I originally purchased this locally, however after checking the price on Amazon I returned the product to the local store and ordered it here, at substantial savings.- I did check for online reviews of the various dutch oven products available, and this Lodge model is generally rated highest or very high compared to others. For example, at wirecutter dot com there is a lengthy evaluation of dutch ovens, with the conclusion that this Lodge model is their pick. They also like the Cuisinart CI670-30CR Chef's Classic Enameled Cast Iron 7-Quart Round Covered Casserole, and of course they rate the Le Creuset Signature Enameled Cast-Iron 5-1/2-Quart Round French (Dutch) Oven very highly. If I am ever able to spend $300 or so for a dutch oven then I will certainly fill our kitchen with that as well as other Le Creuset products (and I will be sure to get at least one in their orange Flame color, which is the original color before they began to offer a full palette of choices). I am sure that the Le Creuset products are absolutely superb, but in the meantime I think that this Lodge product will do just fine. The 6-Quart size that I purchased is just right for our needs - it is large, and heavy, but it looks great in the blue finish, with large and conveniently sized handles. Now let me relate my experience with purchasing this on Amazon. The first Lodge dutch oven I received from Amazon had a very small imperfection on the inside enamel finish. I knew that other reviewers here have posted complaints regarding defective or cracked enamel and therefore decided to contact Amazon customer service to see if a exchange could be made. I didn't want to have doubts about the long-term durability of this dutch oven and wanted to start out with one that was as free from defects as possible. Amazon very kindly agreed to send a replacement, no questions asked. That is superb customer service and it is what I have experienced on several occasions from Amazon whenever I have purchased something here and have had an issue with it (which is infrequent).By the way, both times the product was shipped in it's own factory packaging, which is very heavy cardboard and gives the dutch oven excellent protection. I notice that one of the other reviewers suggests requesting extra packaging, but I personally do not feel that is necessary. It would take some very serious mishandling to damage the pot when protected as it is packaged, and it would be immediately obvious when receiving the package if that had happened, without even opening the box to inspect the pot.I will update this in the future if there are any notable points, good or bad, to add. 5GREAT Enameled Cast Iron This is a review of Lodge EC7D43 Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven, 7.5-Quart, Island Spice RedI have always used non-stick pots and pans, and have recently slowly been replacing that with better quality stuff. The first things to go were the frying pans, since replaced with traditional cast iron (and happily so). I have always wanted an enameled cast iron dutch oven, but they're not cheap. I first looked at the Le Creuset brand and I nearly died of shock at the price. Yikes! Amazon pulled up the Lodge as an alternative and since I love my lodge cast iron pans, I thought I would try out the enameled dutch oven.Oh my gosh, I wish I'd invested in one of these a long time ago. It is NOTHING like using regular pots. I don't have to turn my burners up as high, it heats so evenly, no hotspots, no burning, no cold centers. I went slow and low with my sauce today and it came out better than it has ever come out. Cleanup was a breeze and I was able to make a giant batch and freeze most of it after dinner. If you are like me and need an "entry level" enameled cast iron, GET THIS. It was worth every penny. 5Made in China where ceramics can contain heavy metals I was terribly disappointed to receive my pot today. I've been looking forward to receiving this and I come to find that the cast iron with ceramic coating is made in China. It's bright red and I don't know if you've done your research, but I would not trust brightly coloured ceramics that originate in China as the colours are likely to contain lead and cadmium. I bought the Lodge because it is an American made brand which means the ceramics are safe. So disappointed. This will be going back. 1It is Made in China When I was looking for a Dutch Oven for my wife, I chose the one made by Lodge because I thought it was made in the USA. I was very disappointed, when I opened it up last night to see it was made in China. I am even more disappointed that reading through the product description, and in the section about the company Lodge, it leads the consumer to believe all of it's cast iron cookware is Made in Tennessee. This really seems to be false advertising, either by Lodge or by Amazon. I thought I was purchasing a Made in the USA product, but instead I received a Made in China pot. Granted we just opened the Dutch Oven last night, it may work very well. But mostly, I am disappointed, frustrated, and upset by the false advertising. 1Lodge EC7D33 Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven I gave 5 stars to the Lodge EC7D33 Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven for many reasons. First being that it has held up great under regular use. I waited 15 months to do this review was because time slipped by so fast, but normally when I buy cookware and kitchen appliances I wait a 6-8 months to see if they hold up or fail. This one has held up fine. I have used cast iron cookware for over 30 years now. Knowing that enamel is very easy to chip I treat it like it is glass. I take extra care not to use metal utensils in them and never soak them in water for long periods of time before cleaning them. As with all cast iron I always heat them up slowly, never dry and never straight to high heat because that to can make the enamel chip or pop off. The same thing as heating them before cleaning them you need to allow them to cool down first.. For cleaning my Enameled Cast Iron only I use a worn out green Scotch-Brite Pad with some dish soap clean and scrub if needed. Mine are still nice and white inside and unchipped after many years of use. The newest one is the Lodge EC7D33 I use it weekly and I'm happy with it so far... If it holds up as long as my other old Lodge Enameled Cast Iron Cookware have, this one will be around long after I'm gone... 5Falsely represented False represented !!! lodge says made in America but in the small print this product is made in china. Their enameled stuff is all china made trash. If I wanted china made trash I would not have paid more for what was represented as made in America . If I had realized this was china made trash before my return window expired I would have RETURNED it. 1Lack of durability I'm not a picky person and it's very very rare for me to give a product 2 star!I have to say I was very happy when I got this product. It looks just like my mom's big old Le Creuset Dutch Oven and it's much much cheaper. The first two cooking experience (braise short ribs and made some casserole in oven with 375 degree) was nice, it worked fine and was easy to clean. But today when I brown chicken breast, I heard of a pop and the oven looks like as following pic.I promise I followed all the thing listing on the instruction, wash it by hand, never heat it when it's empty. So I only can say you got what you paid! 2
