Does not stand unless on a smooth surface.
This would be a nice melting pot it does not sit on my gas stove burner. It falls over without support. Makes it hard to actually use. I'm pretty sure my gas stove has pretty standard burners.
3Old tech is a cooking game-changer for me.
I don't use this melting pot very much, but when I do is really is a game changer. I recently got a great deal on some imitation "crab" meat and used this melting pot to make melted butter and garlic sauce to use as a dip. I've also used it to melt ghee so I could put it on steaks and roasts before searing or braising them. And don't get me started on pancakes! There's something about melted butter (or melted ghee) that's really awesome to cook with, and there's something about trying to melt butter in a microwave that just doesn't work, at least not for me.And about the "seasoning" that all iron cookware has to go through, in this case it comes pre-seasoned, and all I've done is melt butter in it, so it's seasoning itself just fine. I did no special procedure to season it before I started using it (like I have with iron pans) but it's doing just fine.
5Uses are endless!
This little gem will not disappoint. I"m trying to kick the microwave habit and this thing is perfect for quickly heating small portions: 1 C of frozen raspberries, or chocolate chips, or even a perfectly sized egg for a sandwich. Filled right to the brim, I'd guess there is room for almost 2 cups.Favorite use: melt chocolate chips over a campfire, and dip your roasted marshmallows in it! Your welcome. :)
5Cute little melting pan
Absolutely love Lodge and its products. This was something I wanted for awhile and saw it, just had to add it to the collection. Lodge quality is incredible for the price. These items will last forever if properly maintained. Yes you have to know how to use and maintain cast iron but its well worth it and how versatile and forgiving they are. Use this to melt butter and sear my steaks on my blackstone. Super worth it for the price.
5Perfect
Guess what? I use this to melt lead ! What? Yuppers !! This is perfect to melt lead to make cast bullets , Perfect, once it gets hot it stays hot , so you can make a lot of bullets in a smaller amount of time once you get the hang of it. There is you tube video's . Once you do this it's ruined for anything else but who cares , it's a very cheap alternative to a lot of the pricey ways to melt lead. And you can make a little or a lot ,that's up to you, looks cool too if you are into civil war stuff or pioneer stuff .Like that movie Patriot !!!! Run tell your husband ! And it's lodge so you know it's quality !
5Bought for one reason, buying more for another
I bought this one for my hubby who just bought a Green Egg BBQ. He used it today to heat up BBQ sauce to brush on our burgers. The pot worked beautifully heating up the sauce snuggled inside the grill. A little while later I was watching the Pioneer Woman on Food Network, the episode "All in a morning's work" where she baked these fabulous "individual caramel cakes". When I pulled the recipe it shows she used these 15oz Lodge cast iron preseasoned pots. So I am ordering 6 to make individual cakes or corn breads. I even saw her make little blueberry cobblers during the holidays. I can't wait. And picture this: a scoop of vanilla ice cream hitting the hot cast iron pan? Oh my!
5Nice little pot, but too small for my induction range.
Works great on the grill/smoker. I'd planned to use this as a butter melting pot on my induction range. Unfortunately, the base is too small for my induction range to recognize. I ended up setting it inside a bigger cast iron pan which was a little silly. It would be a great melting pot on any other range because it pours quite cleanly; no drips or streams run down the outside of the pot. We also used it on the grill/smoker to hold apple cider while smoking pork. It worked perfectly in the grill/smoker so it was still a good purchase.
4Adorable! And useful too!
I have to preface this review by saying that I have a huge Lodge Cast Iron fetish. And this little pot fulfills some of my deepest desires! I have used this little thing to melt butter for popcorn, warm massage oil, make a 1-cup serving of instant gravy, and to warm and serve barbeque sauce on the gas grill. This is NOT a pot for cooking soup. It holds just over 1 cup, and has a very small base so it might be too small for most gas stovetops. It works great on my electric stovetop, and sat perfectly on the side of my gas grill. It might not be the most useful tool in my cast-iron arsenal, but it is one of the cutest and is very fun to use.
5Excellent at Butter Melting and Warming Maple Syrup!
I purchased the Lodge LMP3 Cast Iron Melting Pot to specifically melt butter for pancake and waffle batters. It has since become my go to item every time a recipe calls for melted butter. It completely eliminates dealing with splatter in the microwave! As a bonus it works perfectly for warming up maple syrup on the stove top!Unlike the Lodge skillets that I own I've never had to season this one, but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that I mainly use it for melting butter which is a fat, so i'm "seasoning" and melting all at the same time. Its perfect!
5Perfect
I bought this so to cook garlic and olive oil on the stove top.. I found it perfect. Note: with the new gas stoves that have the wide open, double iron grill tops, the base of this is too small. But it works great with "Ilsa 7-Inch Cast Iron Heat Diffuser"
