Customer Reviews

Replacing Filter Can be a Hassle I bought the Moen Filtration System S5500 in late spring 2016. This review ties in with the first time I had to replace the filter. The Moen system and all my faucets were put in by a professional, so doing filter replacement was the first time I had to tinker with this. Getting the filter off was a challenge; I found taking a flat head screwdriver and wedging it between the filter top and the bracket helped in prying it off. I could not get the replacement on after spending a ridiculous amount trying. I put the filter that came with the system back on with no problem. As other reviewers have written about this same issue with replacements, there's got to be a manufacturing flaw with the Made in China filter.I called Moen, they sent a replacement. The replacement also won't go on all the way. Took the replacement out, put the original filter that came with the system back in. After much frustration, I took the system out, disconnected the lines to the beverage faucet and supply. Turn the thing upside down and jammed it in there hard. I think the problem with this thing is that you can't get enough leverage to use enough for to get the filter in when it is all connected to the mounting bracket.I had a Moen AquaSuite water filtration system which used the 9001 filter in my last house. That was easy to put on and off while in the bracket. Apparently much better design than this one. I miss that now obsolete system.I'm a one person household with pets and everyone gets filtered drinking water. The filter truly was only good for six months, as I had started to see a lot of floating particles in it. So, I wouldn't hope for getting much more time out of this than six months. 3Works great in our kitchen. We installed a Moen CA77200 faucet when we did our kitchen about 9 months ago. The combination of that faucet with this filter works really well for us. We like that the flow rate is a better than some of those filters that mount to the end of a standard faucet, and it seems to do a better job. The water taste is indistinguishable from the bottled water we were buying (maybe a little better, in fact). My husband is more sensitive to that than I am, and he's perfectly happy with it. We actually drink more water and less soda and coffee now, because we have a constant supply of good-tasting water. It is important to note that you can't run out and buy these at Lowe's or Home Depot. Not a problem for us, but it might annoy people who don't like to order things online. But each filter lasts about 6 months, so it's not too much of a hassle. (Buy 2, and you only have to do it once a year.) 5Good filter but installation is painful Our new house had a Moen aquasuite faucet 77200 near the kitchen sink and this filter was installed by the builder.6 months later, when it was time to replace the filter, I ordered it online from Amazon. Package arrived in 2 days as I am a prime member.Filter works good, water tastes good with this filter. No issues with the filter quality.Problem is the installation. It is nearly impossible to snap twist the filter to the filter holder thread and water line. My old filter snapped in and out easily but with the new filter it was impossible to fit it. I checked the model numbers and it was exactly the same filter. I tried to twist with all my power while pushing upwards, but it just wouldn't turn and snap.I even tried different alignments with the filter but of no avail.I did see in the reviews that lots of people had the same problem. I tried putting grease to the rubber O rings but it just wouldn't twist and snap. I felt that the holder bracket would break due to the force I was applying. Finally I figured out a solution. Install the filter into its holder, twist it so it stays in place and then push the water line from above on to the mouth of the filter and press it hard until it snaps fit.Its a pain to do this but this was the only way I could install it. Its definitely a design flaw and has to be a better way to do this.Apart from the installation issues, the filter works just fine. 3I have not been able to do it myself and it literally has taken either my son-in-law or a friend at least a half hour to try to pry it out and then to try to put the new one in --- this should be an easy thing to do like the ones on the Refrigerators ... It is the filter that fits my Moen drinking water spout so I have to use this one but it is AWFUL to take out the used one and put in the new one. I have not been able to do it myself and it literally has taken either my son-in-law or a friend at least a half hour to try to pry it out and then to try to put the new one in --- this should be an easy thing to do like the ones on the Refrigerators but this is really HARD --- have the third one in now and none have gone in easy. Water tastes great and it does work well --- just need Moen to make an easier model to put in and take out. 3Best to keep faucet open and water turned off leading ... I had no problem with fitting it. They are tough to remove, you have to wiggle them up and down with faucet open. I actually used the replacement FIRST then the original that came with faucet kit SECOND due to people claiming its not same one. I compared each other before installing and identical. Its just tough to remove any due to vacuum that forms. Installing is a bit tough too as you try to recreate a vacuum then turn. Best to keep faucet open and water turned off leading to it. It does spill some water once you do get it removed from the bracket. 5Little to no water discharge, your product does not filter water, its a product fabricated in China, not in the USA. How can I return these defective products ? After installing two filters, and both filters didnt filter the water, the water pressure output was so low, it acted as if they were in use for 5- 6 months, water just trickelled out. I dont know If being made and fabricated in China had any thing to do with this product, faulty operations. If Amazon purchassed these faulty products, I suggest you return all of these filters, and contact me to, so I can ship you, all three faulty, water filters. Just so amazon knows, I ordered an identical Moen water filter, directly from Moen, and after installing their filter, It worked perfectly, good water discharge, from water filter. This was proff positive, that the water filter from Amazon, was faulty. One other note, the water filter I purchassed from Moen, was fabricated in the United States. Its also possible, the filters Amazon sold me, was a forgery. How does Amazon, propose to rectify this issue? 1Difficult to install but will work I read most of the reviews before I ordered this filter so I knew there was an issue trying to install the filter in the mount. Was unable to find it anywhere so I decided to try it.Delivery was quick and the price was pretty good. I turned off the water and bled the line before installing. I had the same issue trying to get the new filter to install and lock in place. It s just so tight, it will not lock in position. I tried the wiggling from side to side and the turning, and the jamming, to the extent I knocked the mount off the side of the cabinet. After settling my nerves and trying to compose I got back on it and started from square one.The solution I came up with. Remove the mount from the cabinet, turn it sideways and shove the cartridge into position. Use the side wall of the cabinet as a backstop so you can gain leverage and force it in place. Once in place turn the filter slightly to lock it in place. Remount the bracket on the cabinet wall.I think Moen needs to check their manufacturing specs on that filter and bracket. Somethings not right. 4Eight years in - here are some tricks for replacement 1. Don't rely on the replacement light in the fixture -- it's just a 6-month timer, based on an average family's size and water use. Go by taste -- you may be able to add months to the schedule, particularly if there are only one or two of you.2. Put a tray under the unit during replacement, to catch any spills.3. Removal: turn fully counter clockwise (1/4 turn), then pry down with a screwdriver between the receiver and the engagement fins of the cartridge. This is where removal hangs up--disengaging thosw well-sealing o-rings that prevent leakage. Don't yank and wiggle, as the receiver isn't strong enough for that. Pry.4. I haven't had had any insertion problems with the new cartridge, but apparently some people have. Make sure those engagement fins are engaged with the threads by pushing up on the cartridge (hold the receiver firmly with your other hand--it's not strong enough, nor mounted strongly, to take much force. Once fins are engaged, 1/4 turn clockwise should snap the cartridge into place. 4Very good filter/not so easy installation I've been using these filters ... Very good filter/not so easy installationI've been using these filters for several years. As have some other reviewers, I've experienced some difficulty with installation and water flow. Again, as has been recommended by others, I've lubricated the o-ring on the filter with vaseline, which eased the installation.I had been turning of the water line to the filter but because of the tangle of pipes under my sink this was very difficult. Instead I've taken to turning on all the water faucets in my home, which reduces water pressure in the line, and found that installing the filter was much easier. 4Perfect OEM replacement. No guesswork Price through Amazon is light-years better than local plumbing supply house. This is the genuine article from the original manufacturer - not some knock-off.When installing, I have found that the instructions are not the easiest to follow. You should turn off the water to the filter, then open the drain to relieve internal pressure. Remove the old one simply by twisting it off. Buy some silicone lube certified for drinking water and rib it over the o-ring, then install the new unit. Goes in easy.If you follow the instructions and leave pressure on the system, it is almost impossible to remove and reinsert the unit, I have found. Make sure all pressure is off the filter - it locks up to its cradle under pressure to prevent leaks. That prevents easy removal. 5
